My Onyx Sawed Off medal!

6002 carefully crafted, skillful kills. I feel pretty emotional.

Sadly the 'man gun' as I have affectionately called it, now has to be hung up while I persue the Onyx Gnasher. I'll still have my memories though, the triple kills, the double kills, the rage quiters and of course the hate messages. Time to move on with a heavy heart.

Got my wings the other day aswell and with only 5 Onyx medals theres plenty of 'banked' XP locked away to help with the next Re-Up after the 17th of January.

How could you stand getting the Onyx SO medal? I'm trying for it right now and it seems like all of my shots are missing. The Gnasher is an all around better weapon than the SoS.

It was a lot easier to begin with, but then it was nerfed and people in general have got better at countering it aswell. Things should be a bit better for a while now with a lot of new people getting the game for Christmas. Just keep pluging away. It would be too boring getting that many kills in private matches. You'd be surprised how many people have no idea whats going on around them, keep moving and looking. Despite what you read, camping isn't all that great with the SOS, it has its place occassionaly but most of my kills are from moving around.

just run up to distracted guys, get them from the back or when you down somebody try to us him as bait to get an easy double/kaboom.

I have been having connection issues lately which made the gnasher useless. The sos isn't as easy as everyone says it is and it doesn't down at 10 ft away. I know what you mean though get it in private would suck........BORING!!!!

Yeah, using the SOS effectively (maintaining a good KD ratio) is harder many people realize.

Tell me about it, I never have to use the SOS again now, back to easy street with my trusty Gnasher. Of course I'm still proudly displaying the SOS Onyx Medal, just to wind some people up really. Might go back to the Old Guard soon though when I'm feeling less childish ;-)

Partially yes, I've actually got a few Quinn's with the Gnasher. Single clip and killed a entire camping team. Can't do that with the Sawed-Off. The Gnasher CAN gib multiple players at once, just a rarity. I've gibbed 2 at once with it - but that was because they were camping side by side and I came up behind them. I've got a double headshot on 2 downed opponents that were also side by side. It's entirely possible it just requires them to be closer together (Sawed-Off has a wider spread). I myself die more using the Sawed-Off as once I kill someone I've basically disabled for 3 seconds. If I didn't kill them - I'm a easy target vs Gnasher where I plenty of more shots. Got many kills with the Gnasher after missing my first shot/first shot not gibbing. Have next to none with the Sawed-Off as you're stuck to meleeing them - at games launch - VERY easy today - people learned how to counter it.

That's exactly what I do when I use the Gnasher - works just as well.

I much prefer the Gnasher - simply because I've been playing since Gears 1. However I've always hated it too. I've always swapped out my Gnahser for a power weapon or the TRUE Hammerburst in Gears 1, in Gears 2 I swapped it out for a dropped Lancer (Used Hammerburst 2.0) or power weapon.
The Sawed-Off is a nice alternative. Yes it's a easy kill however it's risk and reward. Easy kill, but if you DON'T kill them (common after the nerf) you're dead. Especially if you are playing against a team that uses teamwork. A good team has eachother covered, so if a Sawed-Off user manages to gets a kill - he's dead. Why it's a bad choice in Ranked games. I will admit though having ONE player with a Sawed-Off in Ranked works nicely though.

in gears 1 no one swap the shotgun bro, only if you was host all the time cause that's when the hammer burst or the lancer will be effective and do damage...

Tbh, sticking with that horrible weapon for 6,000 kills is kind of an achievement. It's just horrible to use, yes it can gib really easily, but the gnasher is just so much better lol.

I started actually boosting sawed off kills a little. Got to 300ish, then realised that gold was 2k kills (When I got my silver hammerburst medal) and gave up.

No way am I ever going to get the gold, let alone the onyx for that gun.

I'll get the rest eventually, just not the sawed off (unless they start counting Horde kills, then I'll get it in Horde). It's such a terrible gun... ugh...

I find getting SOS kills to be easier then any other gun in the game, but I think I'd feel bad if I got the Onyx medals, I would have made at least 5000 people rage :/.
