For Mac (guide by =Silver=)
More to be added soon
There's DiskAid for Mac which is the iFunBox equivalent for OSX and Linux last time I checked. It's exactly the same steps as the iFunBox method, just with a slightly different program. You can pick up a trial with limited features, although with no expiry.
1. Find your local iCloud folder on Mac ("your HDD">users>"user">libraries>Mobile documents). Use "goto" in Finder, cause it may be hidden. Make a shortcut for it in the left pane of the Finder for future (drug&drop). It'll be you "Dropbox from Apple".
2. Find there chair folder and backup it somewhere regularly.
3. In case of emergency just overwrite all files in chair folder with your backup files and wait a bit (quit IB2 from taskbar beforehand for better results).
Or, if you have some unexpected problems, or you don't have a couple of minutes to wait, you may use ifunbox or iexplorer to overwrite files right on your iPhone/iPad. It may save up to 3 seconds if you are a pro
For PC
This is a guide for backing up the game on a PC using iFunBox, which has been reported to work the same was as iExplorer but I haven't tried that one yet (nor iCloud). It's a lot of work to develop your character in the game, and creating restore poitns on your computer is the only assurance you have that you will never have to start from scratch due to a bug or accidentally resetting to rebirth. 1. This step can be done at any time, but make a folder for your IB2 backups. Inside that folder, create folders for your save point(s). The nomenclature I use is rebirth# - boss name. I put an x on folder name for Saydie's chest to keep it sequentially in front of the Vault chest. Example. Edit: I now keep my restore points at boss fights instead of chests - examples and explanation in bottom section.
2. Connect your device to your PC with your usb sync cable.
3. Left click the iFunBox icon. If warns you about it being an .exe file just click ok. Example.
4. Look at the column on the left, everything to the right is just advertisement space. Click the + sign next to user applications.
5. Scroll down to InfinityBlade2 and hit the + sign.
6. Left click Documents.
7. If you only have one monitor, minimize both applications so that you can see them both open at the same time. Left Click the SAVE folder, hold left click, and drag it into the folder you made for your save point. Now your game is backed up.
*Now assume that something bad happened and you want to restore your save, or go back to an old save point for fun.*
8. Close the Infinity Blade 2 app.
9. From inside iFunBox, delete the SAVE folder under documents. Please note that none of this will work if you change the name of the SAVE folder. But you can put that SAVE folder inside as many other well-named folders as you like. After you delete it, it will look like this:
10. Go to the PC folder where you are storing your SAVE folder. The inside of your PC folder should look like this:
Either left click it and hit control C for copy, or left click it and drag it into your Documents folder inside iFunBox. Now when you turn on the game, you will be at your restored point. If you need to go to that save point yet again, just delete your file in iFunbox and then hit control V for paste if it's still save on your 'control C', or drag it back in with left click. This will work fine as long as you never delete the SAVE folder in your PC folder but only on iFunBox. Of course if you do delete it from your computer by mistake you can just restore it from the recycle bin. Warning:what's deleted from inside iFunBox does not go into the recycle bin. I accidentally deleted my SAVE folder inside iFunBox before it was in my PC folder and lost several levels.
Have fun and don't use this this too much to abuse chests because it will only slow you down and you're going to get all the best gems if you aim for the long run in OG (or a particular NG) anyway.
How to Use this Trick to Enhance Gameplay
If you are playing the OG campaign and have the option to play a different and harder boss each rebirth, then if you save each fight in a folder indicating the level of the the boss, as well as the rebirth you are on (so that your folders are sequential) then you can go back to any boss at any point, trying whatever weapon style you want. Note that once you enter Saydhi's compound that you are in the next rebirth. Not only is this good training, but it offers a special type of endgame if you have a large enough collection of bosses. When saving a boss fight, if your device is attached all that you have to do is drag the SAVE folder out of iFunBox into a folder that you prepared showing rebirth and boss level/name. You do not have to close the game to do this. However, I prefer to make sure I have the right armor on and particularly the right resistance gem so that after swapping in my desired SAVE folder, I will be ready to start fighting as soon as the game fires up. To do this, I will close down the game with the right gem on etc, and then drag the folder out (since the game saves saves what you were last wearing when you close the app. If your boss levels are not very high yet, then you can still boost your training by using low-level equipment. This is not quite "the same" though since higher up their movement speeds also increase.
Here is a quick overview of how temporarily to swap in an old SAVE folder (PC-only instructions sorry)
- Make sure your current progress is completely backed up. If you aren't anywhere particularly exciting you can just call it something like "175 start".
- As a review, to back up the game, just drag your current SAVE folder out of iFunBox and into a folder on your PC (that you will be able to find and is well-named).
- Delete the SAVE folder in iFunBox (this removes it from your phone)
- Drag the desired SAVE folder into iFunBox. For example, drag in "184 915 Shade Fight".
- Enjoy getting kicked around by the Shade if you are choosing to fight without a resistance stone.
- When finished, close the game.
- Delete the SAVE folder in iFunBox (no back up is necessary just delete it).
- Drag your most recent restore point back into iFunBox.
- Turn the game back on and you are at the same point as before, just with a bit more skill and experience!
Remember that if you don't do this then there's no way to go back and correct this. Since all you have to do is drag a folder out of iFunBox and let it copy itself into a folder on your computer, you may as well do this even if you don't think you'll use it for the training options. But as a warning, you may find that you want to work on something (such as heavy weapons against Thane or the Archivist) but be at a point where they are too hard as is to be experimental. And of course, at the very least, your game is backed up in case of glitches or emergencies, and allows you to do any tests you like. And in comparison, this is far less dull than backing up large chest locations and you won't be tempted to waste a bunch of time resetting them only to keep finding the same triangle gems.
