Exclamation OG Magic regen rate caps with 100 magic points

Length of Magic Regen Cycle Based on Magic Points

Conditions of test: I restarted to rebirth 1 to avoid slowdowns from block and dodge breaks. I waited for the magic to fill and then cast Cure. I hit a stop watch the moment spell was cast and stopped the timer once the bar filled up and gave its flashing graphic. There was about a +- 0.15 second deviation due to physically hitting a stopwatch.

    The raw data,

    1 magic: 1:04.06
    26 magic: 59.57
    51 magic: 42.81
    76 magic: 29.43
    98 magic: 19.00
    123 magic: 18.13
    148 magic: 18.21
    173 magic: 18.28
    200 magic: 18.31
    293 magic: 18.35
    406 magic: 18.31
    503 magic: 17.97
    672 magic: 18.50
    797 magic: 18.34

Conclusion - The hard cap for magic regen is at 100 with a length of 18 seconds. You will still get more nuking and healing potency if you go beyond that, but you aren't shortening the length of time that it takes for your magic to be restored. This surprised me since I was thinking that my high magic rating was actually making me cure faster!—it wasn't.

Whats the difference in the damage between 100 and 800?

Shock 7 Damage per Magic Point

Shock 7 on an elementally neutral target:

    magic 1 = 4,500 damage
    magic 171 = 10,372
    magic 262 = 11,902 damage
    magic 797 = 14,025 damage

Conclusion - Diminishing returns with magic attack per magic stat.

so potency for attack rings goes up (obviously), but the regen recap is around 100-ish...

very interesting results and solid testing method...

I think it might depend on NG and Rebirth too.

I just tried two conditions (on rebirth 147^4):

with +612 magic, my bar took about 17 seconds to refill after heal
with +150 magic, my bar took about 60 seconds to refill after heal

I hit my stopwatch the instant that I knew the spell was going to go off. This forced me to keep one finger on an attempt to make the Cure gesture with the other hand on the stopwatch button. If you waited for the spell to register than that explains how you shaved off a second with +612 magic.

However, I also did this test against something that was way too hard to fight as it was (rebirth 99) which forced me to block and dodge the whole time and cause minor breaks (breaks slow down the magic regen rate.) My average (with +800 magic) was 21-22 seconds because of that added time.

But in one of the [rebirth 99] fights, I was able to get it down to 19 seconds because I only caused a small dodge break that it recovered from right away. This tells me that there is no boost whatsoever from rebirths. I can't speak for NG.

Anyone else tried timing this in NG?

I was hoping 100 really was the cap because that would make room for 2 more Attack+ gems for me, but it seems like those extra magic points do make a difference for me.

If you want to test it right you need to make sure that you are just taking hits the whole time while you are timing it because if you accidentally make a break it will slow down the magic regen cycle.

And if you are still curious then you can do what I did and back up your save file then hit 'return to rebirth 1' and test it on the Shade.

I'm with you on that "feeling". The whole reason I did this experiment was to prove Name wrong, and it turned out that he was right lol.
