[UPDATED] Game Freeze - Avoid rank reset!

Ok guys with rank resets picking up pace around the forums, I want to let people know if this simple tip.

Having talked to a few people on here, this solution seems to work.

When the game freezes your first instinct is to get up and reboot the Xbox. Don't do this.

In short:

Eject the disk rather than cutting the power. Cutting power will result in corrupting your saved data.

Huh.
I'll have to remember that when the time comes, but I think everybody's priority would be to BACK UP THEIR DATA.

Yes, keep a back up as well, but after 5 freezes my wings are still there. The game is massive, in size, so is prone to crashing.

It's just something I stumbled across.

Right as I went to read this thread, my gears froze.

This method has always worked for me, now I get to test again ^^;

I will give this a go as I get this @ least twice a day. I would think this would have been something they would have fixed by now but whatever.
My only wonder is if this will work because hitting the power button doesn't get me off the black screen either and I am forced to resort to pulling the power supply out to reset the xbox.

Yeah cutting the power is a bad idea, ejecting the disk unfreezes the Xbox and takes you back to the dashboards

i bought a memory unit for a fiver today so i could backup extra extra but i found out it cant go into the slim xbox XD fail at me lol

So, if you have an arcade xbox with just 4GB and no hard disk, you're still in trouble...

It's unfortunate because a lot of times people won't look at threads about resets because they figure it won't happen to them. Then, there is also a lot of people that never visited these forums before and come here when they get reset looking for answers, but never knew about the issue or the steps to take to make a backup, etc.

Sucks.

Also done it several times since release when my game freezes. Never been reset yet

Everyone has been really great about helping me keep it bumped as much as possible. I'll be doing a pretty hefty update to the main post either tonight or tomorrow so I'll definitely add the info about ejecting the disk. I have read from one person that it didn't save their data, but that's because ejecting the disk didn't unfreeze their console and they had to turn it off at the power anyway.

I wonder if TU2 has something to do with all this freezing, because it's been happening to me pretty often lately. It hardly ever happened before TU2 for me.

Im wondering this as well. My games installed to my hd and it shouldn't freeze as much as it should. It seems to happen to me when joining a multiplayer game.

@Thievius - Your thread should be stickied. have you contacted Cher about it? Because rank resets are obviously a serious problem and seem to be picking up pace ATM as well.

Having joined a a quick match to a black frozen screen, with no guide button working, I was told by a guy in my party to eject the disk to avoid rank reset.

Havin talked to a few people on here, this solution seems to work.

This is just a heads up, it's not a guarantee that it will save your stats, but so far so good, for me and a good few others.

game froze twice yesterday, i restarted the xbox, and now my rank is reset. I see this thread now, FML...

ive been holding the power button anytime that happened to me and i have experienced any problems but hey ill do this from now on just in case.

Epic have pretty much said the thread won't be getting a sticky. So for everyone reading this thread now, make a backup of your data just in case. See here for my reset/backup thread for details.
