Default I feel like this needs to be said.

I have been seeing an increasing volume of threads where people have been saying that they prefer Gears 1 or 2 over this game, and that this game lacks replayability in comparison to those games.

I am here to say that, for me, it doesn't. I have probably put just as many hours into this game thus far as I have Gears 2.

I got my Xbox in 2007, so I was a little late to the Gears 1 party. I enjoyed the game, but I simply couldn't compete in the multiplayer. I didn't play much of it.

I got Gears 2 when it came out, I put a lot more time into it. Still, it was frustrating. The lag, the inconsistencies, the wtf moments that occurred so often. I was trekking along though, trying to level up. Somewhere in my 50's, though, some glitch happened and all my multiplayer data was deleted. With some many games out that weren't nearly as frustrating as Gears 2, I had absolutely no motivation to level up again. I more or less gave up on playing public, sometimes me and my friends just killed each other in private annex, because the lag was more manageable and you always knew who host was.

Gears 3 actually makes me want to play. There is far less lag, host powers, and wtf moments than in Gears 2. Also, I am level 86 and have yet to have all my data deleted *knock on wood.* This is the first Gears game that me and my friends actually put together a GB team for. We find it very fun and very competitive compared to the previous Gears. Sure it has problems, but there are few problems that everyone agrees are actually problems, the forums is just a network of people arguing about different things. To me, this is a good sign that Epic has made the best game that they could.

Totally agree. I have now played gears 3 more than 1 &2 combined and still loving it. Too many people complaining about minor issues when the game is almost perfect.

Why bother with the forums then? I am guessing you really do like the game.

Just been playing Gears 2 all day (I've scratched my Gears 3 and it's unplayable D there isn't really any comparison for me. The MP in Gears 3 just sh**s all over Gears 2. It's much more fluid, the weapons have all been buffed, less lag, and there's barely any times where I sit there and think wtf just happened

This has everything to do with it. Gears 1 had that "I wanna play this game all the time" feel even with the lag, host, and glitches. This game for a lot of people, me included, even though I still play, doesn't have that even though the glitches are gone, and the lag is better (Definitely not gone, and sometimes just as bad, but overall, it's better). I can't pinpoint what exactly it is that this game lacks, but it's definitely something. It's not the sawed off or the retro or any of that that people complain about. I'm not one of those "Use a gnasher and if you use anything else you're a noob" kind of players either.

It might have to do with the absolute need of teamwork now and the lack of communication between teammates. With parties, nobody ever talks, and I'm guilty of this as well, but it's a lot less likely in this game to go out and take on a 1v4 than it was in Gears 1. You usually get one person trying to kill you with the gnasher and 3 others lancering you down so you have no hope. It's the smart thing to do, but just not as exciting as Gears 1 was.

I'm gonna stop you right there on the game of the year bit because this game is far from game of the year material. For one the storyline was ass compared to the first 2 as there was no character development outside of coles chapters, we know nothing about sam, clay carmine, baird, barely anything about jace, anya, marcus, dom, etc unless you read the books and comics not to mention it was too much of go here to here with the gameplay and ending was cheezy as hell. Doms bit was by far the best thing but also the worst because it was so obvious we was gonna die. Story would have been more epic had we gotten more character development and more people dying as you wouldn't expect to lose cole or say anya hell even jace or bernie. Now as far as multiplayer its still the most smooth of 3 games but also the most boring because of how all the guns work. Assault rifles were fine in the damage department in the beta and needed no extra boost and they need to go back as they are winning in territory they should be losing 90% of the time which is CQC. Almost never should they beat the Gnasher or Retro Lancer in their specified range but they do and consistently I might add. Not to mention we have all these bugs and matchmaking needs tweaking. Some of these which could have been fixed in the first 2 TU. Sorry but this game dropped the ball on being viable for GoTY.

I play gears 3 without getting as frustrated as i would in gears 2, but i must say i don't feel like the game is worth investing my time into even despite the smooth gameplay. i mean sure gears 3 might be entertaining but i sure as hell don't race home after work/school to play like i used to.

The test for me for when a game felt right, was how I felt about it looking at the leaderboards after a match finished. If I was on top of the leaderboards and still pissed off (pretty much any call of duty), well it's just not a fun game. Gears 3 is getting up on that red faction level, where I bask in my toasts and accolades and get ready to saddle up for the next match. If I could have asked for anything more in Gears 3, it would have been for it to have shipped with (or had some method for interpreting) all the maps. At least in private versus matches.

I think Gears 3 has the potential to be Game of the year, simply because of the replay value. You have Beast, Horde, Arcade, and Multi. New additions to the campaign, new maps coming out, and new features to Horde and more then likely Beast later. Skyrim has amazing graphics and some cool features, but i dont really see any originality with the game. ITS LIKE EVERY RPG EVER. Just done extremely well. Gears of War 3 has great features. What game can you play as the bad guys like you can in Beast? Can you play as the villains, bosses, or any of the bad guys in Skyrim? No. Skyrim has alot to do, until the end of the story line. Then it just becomes boring. Im not saying Gears 3 is a definitive winner of GoTY, im saying it can definitly compete. Gears 3 has a lot of twists, Adam Fenix being alive, Dom dying, (kinda expected) but the way he went out wasn't expected. The plot is pretty thick for a video game, and the additions that come in the future may just keep adding to it. We have Kim and Michael Barrick and RAAM coming back. Seems like material to me. I wouldn't doubt Skyrim winning it, but games are very subjective, they aren't objective like math.

It isn't about the amount of modes or replayability or whatnot for me. It's the feeling you get when you get a kill, or when you can't wait to finish your daily activities to get to your xbox and play Gears. Its the feeling you get when you shotgun gib, or longshot snipe, or roadie run with your health depleting from fire.

And unfortunately, Gears 3 doesn't give that sense of accomplishment or that "feeling" when you do those things in game. Gears 1 and Gears 2 did. That's why I believe the past installments were more fun. Something is missing in Gears 3, and while GOW 3 is still a good game, it doesn't bring back the feeling the other games did.

Is it the noob friendly game aspects? The buffed up rifles? The fact that it is so easy to gib people without having to worry about lag? I found facing host to be a challenging aspect of the game, and while host advantage is a poor way to play an online game, it was what we have been playing for so long. Beating a host, or gibbing a team with lag against you feels amazing. Even playing as host felt good in the past Gears, but not as good as off-host. Gears 3 is just too easy. The Sawed-off is another crutch, but that doesn't even make me not want to play this game. It's the fact that I don't get any satisfaction from winning, or losing. The shotgun gibs are horrible in Gears 3, which was a selling point for me in the original Gears. I kept playing Gears 1 because of the hilarious looking gibs that actually ended up being the best looking in the series. (Some of you like the Gears 2 ones, and while I don't prefer the Gears 2 ones, they beat the hell out of the ones in Gears 3).

All I am saying is, this game doesn't feel as rewarding or challenging as the first two. Plus, the rifles are just boring to use.

And no, I'm not saying we should bring back lag or host advantage, but this game needs something that feels rewarding again...cause for me and others, it's just a chore.

They die online or their favorite weapon does not perform as they think it should and they come here to complain. They claim Gears 3 is bad, yet they spend a part of their day talking about it. Ass-backward.

They want their Host Advantage back!

This. Gears 3 puts every other multiplayer game I've ever played to shame. The only exception to that is Counter Strike on PC. CS 1.5 and 1.6 were amazing. I haven't played CS Source though.

I wish I could have more fun playing this game. I play but not for long. I'd honestly rather have lag than a certain gun. But this game lags some AND has a certain gun.

I'm assuming you're referring to the sawed-off. The sawed-off isn't even a problem now and people that use it are generally easy targets.

I kinda agree nothing really original all these kind of games have is lots of things to do in them the story is just about killing Dragons and taking their souls or powers whatever and Idk why everyone says the graphics are great. they're alright but not great

Argue all you want but Gears 3 has way too many beginner guns and cheap kills.

I did not mention the gnasher, because unlike all the other weapons it has remained the same through the series.

I agree the "beginner" only uses one gun and usually it's the SOS.

I never implied that the gnasher was all I use I just stated my problems with the changes.

I don't mind when people disagree with my opinion. But to bring nothing to the argument and just simply start to flame on people really says something about ones character.

    That is fkn hilarious!

I agree completely man. This game does not have the same magic as the past games, and I find myself getting bored after only a few matches unless I am playing with really good friends that we can all just chill and joke around. For me, I think its that alot of the challenge has been removed from Gears. I think Epic made a mistake casualizing this game. Not only did they introduce noob weapons to be used as a crutch for poor players, but they removed the single-life based draw factor. IMO this is what did the most damage. Single life gametypes heavily promoted good team communication, and the single life made the game more challenging and fun. You came to cherish that one life, and doing so meant that you needed to gain skill in order to do so.

Honestly I can't really respect the opinions of people that never experienced the previous Gears, especially Gears 1, because most only played 2 once they were done with the Beta. They never were there to see how the series has grown and changed. Of course Gears 3 is amazing to them, they have no point of reference. I do think that the gib animations are worse in 3. The maps are unimaginative for the most part, with key elevation areas that turn the game into a much more campy and slower paced game than the previous Gears.

I find it funny how as soon as someone has the opinion such as yourself or I, we are considered trolls or butthurt vets that want some unfair advantage back. The truth is most new age gamers are pansies, and scoff at any kind of challenge, which is the real reason they turned their backs on the previous Gears. They couldn't handle the aggressive playstyle and the single life game modes, now that Gears 3 has taken away this challenge, it is the best game ever to them. It is the very reason a series that has become as terrible as CoD can be so popular, because it is incredibly easy, and most people are too lazy or unskilled to deal with challenge in games anymore.

You guys are entitled to your opinions, but I'm a hardcore fan that's been playing since Gears 1 as well and I feel that Gears 3 is the best in the series. Is it easier to kill people? Yeah, but that's because the game works. I'll take a game that works over a game that is artificially more difficult due to things being broken. I loved Gears 1 and played the crap out of it. I'm still in the top 800 in ranked Execution. That being said, both Gears 1 and 2 were broken, especially Gears 2.

I have no problem with any of the weapons in Gears 3. Yeah the sawed-off is annoying, but I see a lot less of it now and it's easy to counter. The rifle power doesn't bother me at all as I still get the vast majority of my kills with the Gnasher.
    Gears 1: 1250/1250 Gears 2: 1750/1750 Gears 3: 2000/2000 Currently level \\★// Classic Cole/SGE Ivory Gnasher + Team Metal Lancer
Thank you to Gear1987 for my Savage Grenadier Elite! Thank you to IBLEEDgears for the Jungle Tai!

    1. You didn't read everything, GTFO of my thread.

2.I am not a hardcore fan? I am hardcore enough to consistently check these forums for two months. I love this game, so you don't get to judge whether or not I am a "hardcore fan."

    3. How can I say anything about the three games? I played them. That is certainly enough for me to give my opinion on the multiplayers of all three games. These forums are just a bunch of fans of varying degrees bloviating on about their opinions anyway. As someone who played all three games, I can CERTAINLY give my opinion on this matter as much as I want.

    4. Again, I am not a casual player, I played the hell out of this game.

Please, don't even bother responding, clearly you are just an a$$hole.
