I have been seeing an increasing volume of threads where people have been saying that they prefer Gears 1 or 2 over this game, and that this game lacks replayability in comparison to those games.
I am here to say that, for me, it doesn't. I have probably put just as many hours into this game thus far as I have Gears 2.
I got my Xbox in 2007, so I was a little late to the Gears 1 party. I enjoyed the game, but I simply couldn't compete in the multiplayer. I didn't play much of it.
I got Gears 2 when it came out, I put a lot more time into it. Still, it was frustrating. The lag, the inconsistencies, the wtf moments that occurred so often. I was trekking along though, trying to level up. Somewhere in my 50's, though, some glitch happened and all my multiplayer data was deleted. With some many games out that weren't nearly as frustrating as Gears 2, I had absolutely no motivation to level up again. I more or less gave up on playing public, sometimes me and my friends just killed each other in private annex, because the lag was more manageable and you always knew who host was.
Gears 3 actually makes me want to play. There is far less lag, host powers, and wtf moments than in Gears 2. Also, I am level 86 and have yet to have all my data deleted *knock on wood.* This is the first Gears game that me and my friends actually put together a GB team for. We find it very fun and very competitive compared to the previous Gears. Sure it has problems, but there are few problems that everyone agrees are actually problems, the forums is just a network of people arguing about different things. To me, this is a good sign that Epic has made the best game that they could.

there isn't really any comparison for me. The MP in Gears 3 just sh**s all over Gears 2. It's much more fluid, the weapons have all been buffed, less lag, and there's barely any times where I sit there and think wtf just happened
