Default Good Rep or Bad Rep? Your comments please.

Hi, I'm a big Gears fan and play plenty. I play every game type quite happily. I try my best to communicate as much as possible. I never get nasty with people (I do try to help with hints and tips which are sometimes taken wrongly as a criticism of them). I'm not saying I'm some superior player than everyone else I just like to think I'm doing my best to help our team win the match and if that's talking and taking charge then so be it.

That said I do however swear a bit while playing Gears, I very rarely swear in the real world but you know what it's like in the gaming world. Tension, competitiveness and having outright fun can all account for a raise in bad language (personally I never use it in an aggressive or abusive contexts against other players). I'm talking about generalised swear words which just appear mid sentence where only the word itself may cause offense.

Gears is rated 18, therefore we are all adults playing this game (I know this isn't the case but in the context of my thread it is), so how is it that my reputation is close to 90% negative rep for foul and abusing language. I mean those of you who have played with or against me know I don't deserve this and surely a few swear words in amongst the more important team benefiting shout outs is forgivable (I also understand that an adult can be offended by a swear word) but at the end of the day why do people not give me good rep for the fact that my whole speak is help for the team?

What does everyone think of this? Is it fair I get this bad rep or not? and is it the same for any of you guys out there? Thanks

haha I have like 97% of bad rep xD!! usually the guys who give u bad rep are the enemie team cause they are mad or smthing, cause if I play with some1 in my team that is really good I'm not gonna give him good rep, not for being an asshole but I just dont feel to do this with each good guy that I find D:

I used to only play Street Fighter 4. I never plugged in the mic ever. I only won about 50% of the time, so nobody should be getting to upset. However, i had low ratings like you for foul language and aggressive behavior ect... I think people just rate you to be A-holes.

Do people realise that when you bad rep someone the likelyhood of them playing against me is lowered so if they keep doing this often it will have an effect on the game players they can find do it too many times and they might not find a match. Good rep works the opposite way so you would think giving good rep would be favoured over giving out bad rep. It's funny how people react to it. I give good rep out to anyone that makes the effort to talk and help the team would rather up my odds at matching up with them in the future.

I didn't read all of what you posted, but I'm going to assume that you have a bad rep because of foul language. Going with that, I would say no it's not fair to be given a negative review just because of some foul language. I'm not sure where you're from, but from where I am, Gears is rated M, which means you need to be at least 17 to play. Obviously, there are kids under that age who are playing and if they're offended by such language, they shouldn't be playing. I wouldn't worry about your bad rep too much, it doesn't stop you from playing.
I've finally realized something about trolls like DawnZero and Ellen DeGeneres. They're sort of like a turd that just won't flush away. Fortunately there's the 'Ignore List'. It's like closing the toilet seat so at least you don't have to look at the turd.
It's just a sawed-off shotgun. Whip out that Gnasher or whatever you've got and don't be scared, homie.

ye I know, I do it, when someone is annoying me and its one of those guys who u shot 5 active times and he just turn around and kill u A LOT of times, I bad rep them, but just to no play with them anymore, that's why I dont get mad with my rep

Even as an adult who isn't at all offended by "foul" language... it DOES get really obnoxious when someone is literally saying "f***" and "s***" every 2 words. It's abrasive and not fun to listen to. You also have to consider the "abusive" part--if you're trash talking, you deserve to have negative feedback filed against you. Just enjoy the game and don't be abusive.

Here is my opinion on foul language. The game is rated mature. If you dont want your child to hear it then buy a different game for him/her. I mean they cuss left and right in the campaign. If you are not cussing me then I don't care what you say. I DO NOT CUSS but like I said as long as it is not aimed at me then I don't care. I mean who am I to say what you can and can't do with your xbox live.

And while I am on the subject of kids. Why is it ok to buy a game for a kid that he/she is to young for? I mean you cant go out and buy a beer for a kid because there is a age limit. And you cant buy smokes because there is an age limit. Kids cant drive, join the military, vote because there is an age limit that is enforced but when there is an age limit on a video game it is not. Hummmmmm makes you wonder.

Mine is like 92% bad rep or whatever. You'd be surprised of the amount of times someone has avoided me because I beat them, lol.

I don't take that whole option seriously though. It's extremely flawed (IMO).

What a retarded analogy. All of those things you listed can endanger a child's life or health.

Studies have concluded that violent video games do NOT bring out violent tendencies in children--unless they already possess those violent tendencies. Then it's simply a matter of knowing your child. If the child isn't typically violent or aggressive, then I see no reason why a kid shouldn't be able to play the game. I understand playing with kids is annoying (because they're unskilled and are usually obnoxious to listen to), but it's another thing entirely to call someone's parenting into question over something that's pretty much harmless. Especially when chances are you aren't a parent yourself.

I'm not sure how or if anything is affected by your rep. Someone please explain it if they can.. I'm not sure what my rating is but I know it's not 100%. Let a friend of mine use my account to play Madden a few years back found out he would quit once he realized he was gonna lose and I got some bad rep from it.

Have you ever noticed that when you give someone feedback, you can either "Prefer" or "Avoid" them? Depending on what feedback you give them, you will either have a slightly higher chance of playing with them in the future, or slightly lower chance.

Good points there. I would say that I swear almost as much as the campaign commentary so very little really not every other word like the comment before yours implies. Also yeah you hit the point that a lot of the time it's a parent complaining that their child is playing, hang on surely they are the irresponsible one for letting their child play an 18 rated game and a few swear words is the least of their worries as the graphical content will have a much greater impact on their undeveloped minds than swear words do. (I definitely do not condone swearing in front of children).

    voting endagers a childs health?

i watched The Evil Dead (uncut) when i was 9 years old among other sick uncut horrors. tbh, i wouldn't show it to my kid when she reaches that age even tho it did me no harm whatsoever.

it depends on loads of things. kids have different maturity levels, but does any kid NEED to play the game? nope. and when i say kid, i mean 13 and under. i just think kids are too spoiled these days and get what they want far too much to be honest.

and i do think parenting can be called into question personally. kids shouldn't be on xbox listening to insults and adult, unregulated conversations. i think giving a child xbl where they can speak freely to any of the scum of the earth and be influenced by them is far more dangerous then kids seeing fictional violence.

All elements are taken into consideration to be honest. Just because a lot of people haven't been affected by fictional violence at a young age doesn't mean we should forget screening this stuff from children growing up and I do mean everything else that come with these games like Xbox live and the sometimes nasty stuff that is heard over it. So I do feel as parents or adults it is our duty of care not to slip into the easy option of supplying our children with these items just to make our lives easier. My thread has gone a bit serious now I just wanted to know if people could start using the good rep button for a change. ta

Ok, so I glossed over that one (tbh, I skimmed over that list and just saw stuff like "drinking," "smoking," driving, etc.) Though obviously, a child voting would be harmful to the country because they can't form informed opinions (and often just copycat what their parents think).

Surely you mean it did no harm to you in the long term. Otherwise, what? You'd really criticize someone for allowing their child to do something that did them "no harm whatsoever"? Seems to me like you're just accepting a societal norm ("OMG think of the children!! Violent vidya games are HARMFUL!!!") despite having no evidence to justify it.

What does "need" have to do with it? No one "needs" to play this game. It's a game, for recreational purposes.
