If you read the Q&A replies Rod mentions that on indoor maps like checkout and rustlung you get different special abilities that are more suited to indoor maps.

Also you say how can you use a hammer strike in a ship? Well how can you have a brumak in checkout...

The Brumak doesn't follow the rules of physics in this game. It walks through and OVER things like it weighs nothing and has no mass.

Seriously. That'd be really cool. But instead, the Brumak is like a phantom. Able to walk through solid objects without destroying them..lol.
