Lightbulb SCHOOLS OUT!!! also... play our game for free!

Well after 8 months or so of toil and our university imposing nasty deadlines on us... Its finaly here.

School's Out! is an adventure platformer game developed by Lightminded Studios of Brisbane, Australia. The game follows Danny, a high school student that is shrunk down to a minuscule size by his insane science professor. Danny must now find a way to navigate the classroom and reach the teacher's desk so that he can return himself to his full size. It's not as easy as it sounds though, as his professor has created a number of bizarre traps and pitfalls for Danny to navigate, as well as bizarre living constructs made out of various bits of stationery. While short and sweet, School's Out! carries a charming visual style, tried and tested gameplay, and a very tongue in cheek sense of humour.
    version 1 contains:

    - 3 beautiful levels
    - all original music (minus the final cinematic)
    - 4 types of enemies to do battle with.
    - pushable and pullable blocks
    - sobel edge rendering
    - much more

Here is a demo video showing some pre-release gameplay. (EVERYTHING HAS BEEN HEAVILY UPDATED AND TUNED SINCE THIS VIDEO)

The game is free, but we are looking for feedback and suggestions for version 2.

So far version 2 will include:
    - 4 more levels
    - many more cutscenes
    - 6-7 new enemies
    - updated player models and animations
    - updated mechanics
    - much more TBD

So either head on over to our indie DB page or head directly to our website and follow the links to teh download section.

Download the game and have a play while its still free.

Also if you want to know a bit about the dev team behind this game.. check out our dev website

Please post any comments or ideas for version 2 in this thread, or through the feedback section on our site

    Enjoy

The website is hosted through dreamhost. and they provided some one click installers. Our site is using a one click install of Wordpress that has been modified slightly for our purposes.

    Enjoy the game Phen0m

Ok so here is my review: I like this game it is great. I love the concept of a puzzle game combined with a fighting game it makes it very fun. I think that one thing this game needs is a save system. (ex: of why needed: My friend and i were talking and i had the game paused and when i was done talking i went to resume and hit the main menu button on accident lol, I know this was my fault but it is still possible.) Other than that I love the game it is confusing in the beginning but other wise great. This Game is a must play.

Yes, add more descriptive instructions. I did not get it at first (not talking about controls) I did not know where to go.

    awesome! finaly had a raz

characters and scenery look good, animations and everything are good, no obvious bugs and didnt crash (im not much of a gamer).
the outline postprocess effect needs sorting out a bit, when you look into the sun its very different from when you dont, needs to be 1 way or the other.
i lost a life by dropping off the table before i got out the first bit, there needs to be an obvious 'path'
lost a second life before i encountered an enemy, there needs to be something happening almost from the start, leading you in some direction maybe.

on a side note, the first bot gets stuck on the books and you can keep it stuck by positioning your character.
to solve this have something that checks maybe the velocity of the pawn, if after whatever time it hasnt moved (much) try a jump, after more time try a random direction or that kind of thing.

    hope you keep developing it
    good luck

    Thanks for the feedback tegleg

We are int eh process of recoding the game extending from UDK rather than UT. I think the levels will be redone also with a more obvious path.

We are well underway with a rebuild of this game. The codebase is almost completely updated to extend from UDK rather than UT. And nearly all old mechanics have moved from their buggy alpha phase into a robust final version. We are looking at having 6+ levels this time around with bigger, more immersive environments. There will be alot more enemy types aswell as new player weapon mods and upgrades.

Its been quite a process so far and we will be launching a new and improved developer blog soon so you can see what we are working on.

Also in my spare time I will try to put some tutorials togeather. Including a robust system for pushing/pulling and carrying objects, sprint / stamina systems aswell as some advanced swarming AI stuff.
