unlikely. The game uploads the data to the servers whenever you start up the game.

I'm just not sure why this has to be official anyway .
I mean there are threads in sticky that are not really gears related .
Such as chers thread and the photos thread.

I have never heard of there being a potential negative to backing up your profile? If there is then what could be worse then being reset without one? This should be stickied whether Epic supports it in entirety or not. I also don't think they should have unstickied and locked the thread where people posted their own rank resets/info pertaining to when and how it happened.

I asked this question already but didn't get a replay so I'l throw it in again for the bump:

I followed the video exactly, no gears data on the cloud, started the game up using the cloud storage and it popped i was on lvl 1 were you were on lvl 100. I got the biggest scare of my life but went back to the dash n loaded from the hard drive n was back on 93. my question is why didn't it load me on the right lvl? Thanks in advance.

I don't trust cloud storage. I've got a memory card and xbox internal memory backups, which work fine. My main save file is on my Hard Drive. I prefer using a memory card or usb stick.

Check your player data (Setting, Storage, Games, Gears of War 3, Player Data). Should be 64kb if you're a white rank, 68kb if you have re-upped at all. Anything lower than 64 is almost certainly corrupt. If it is less than 64, delete it, play a quick match of bots to re-upload your data to the servers. Reset avoided

When you check, it'll either say corrupted data, and will have a circle with an exclamation mark or it will not. Most times you get the game lock up or what seems to be a reset doesn't actually result in a reset. Still, though, any time the game locks up, one really ought to check it out.

Do you have a memory stick? If you do, you should be backing up already. If not, turn on the game while offline. That'll tell you what the story is. Your data will not be sent to the servers and you can see. But if the player data doesn't show up as "Corrupted data" and there isn't a circle with an exclamation mark as the icon for the player data it will be fine.

I don't bother backing it up. Gnashes said anything below 64 kb IS corrupt even if it has no thingy next to it. Then when I deleted it, re uploaded my data and was safely red it went back up to 68kb

So, what you are saying is you assumed it was corrupt. You didn't check if it was corrupt. Yeah, thanks, I'll stick with the methodology that has worked for a load of people who I've spoken to personally, the people in this thread for when I've been following it and my own knowledge.

It doesn't hurt to delete your player data and create a new one, why take the risk if it looks like it could be corrupt?

I advocate a smart, and cautious approach. People should have a back up, first of all. Any time the game freezes, one should check the player data. If it isn't corrupt (already pointed out the signs) then you are good to go. I've had two rank reset scares. By this I mean I actually would have lost my rank. I'll go in to those in a minute. I've had freeze scares which make me worry about a possible reset at least 200 times and I mean at least. I've had a 50 game of horde where the game has locked up 7 times. Its safe to say that most freezes/lock ups don't result in a reset.

Anyway, about the two times. The first, it was after losing my stuff, so I looked it up online to make sure it wouldn't happen again. I would take an approach of any time my game froze I would start it up while offline. After many times of starting the game and my stats being there, I saw that one time it had brought me back to level 1, et cetera.. So I exited the game, went to the saves, saw the player data as corrupt. Deleted it and started the game while online. Got my stuff back.

The other time, well after the above, I would just skip starting the game while offline and would instead check the player data. If it is safe, it is good. If not, then I delete it. So, in short, I had the player data corrupt in the same manner as in the example above. Deleted it and started the game.

I explained this stuff to people within my circle of gaming friends, who would bring in some people that they knew that I didn't and I'd explain it to them. They'd bring in people they knew, and we'd tell them the story et cetera et cetera... These are die hard horde players who have at least 5000 waves a piece. If there was an issue with the methodology, I would have been called out on it. So, yeah... I'll not treat this file size as anything more credible than I perceive it to be.

Edit: A cautionary tale though. One ought not delete the campaign save. I've known someone who deleted the campaign save at the same time as the corrupted player data. It didn't end well.

The achievements to kill 500 enemies with Silverback Rockets and spend 40,000$ on the Command are glitched up beyond repair. I had gotten both achievements at the exact same time when I got it, but then I signed off. I got back on and they dissapered. So I kept killing and spending. I have 828 kills with the Silverback, and spent $125,000 on the Command Center. Any way for me to reunlock them? Same goes for my Onyx War Supporter. It's BEYOND the Onyx Medal. I got 57 times. And it hasn't unlocked.

This thread gives information on how to protect your rank, medal, achievement and unlock progress from being reset. We cannot help you regarding your achievements not unlocking. I'd suggest checking out the Issues section, but I see you've already posted a thread over there asking for help.

The only thing I can suggest is that you regularly check your thread in the Issues section and use any advice you might get. I'd also suggest reading through the OP of this thread and following the instructions on how to back-up your progress; you can never be to careful. I hope you find a solution to your problems soon.

okay i'm not gonna lie: i did NOT read through all 204 pages of posts. I did read the first couple and the last few though. So my question may be already asked.

Am I to understand, that I can take a plain old USB flash drive, plug it into the slot on my 360, then take my GOW3 data that is currently on my xbox360's hard drive, then copy it onto the plain old run-of-the-mill USB flash drive? And this is my backup in case my data gets corrupted? It's that easy?
