Default Infinity Blade 2 showcases latest UE3 mobile features

Today on stage at Apple’s “Lets Talk iPhone” event Epic’s President, Mike Capps, and Chair Entertainment lead designer, Donald Mustard, revealed and demonstrated Infinity Blade 2, the up-coming follow-up to the hugely successful iOS game, Infinity Blade.

From an Unreal Insider’s point of the view there were some cool new technical features demonstrated that showcase what developers are able to do with Unreal Engine 3.

Let’s start with two new high-end graphics features that will be available when playing on the latest A5-equipped iOS devices which are the iPad 2 and the upcoming iPhone 4S, dynamic shadows and dynamic light rays.

Infinity Blade 2 features dynamic character shadows, including self-shadowing. This allows for greater realism in both combat and cinematic sequences, and provides greater range of visual contrast and color depth.

    Dynamic light rays
, also known as “god rays”, enhance the visual appeal of outdoor areas, as well as allow for great realism and cinematic quality together with visual effects such as lens flares.

    iOS 5
introduces Apple’s new iCloud service and Infinity Blade 2 will take advantage of iCloud save games, which will automatically sync your save files between multiple iOS 5 devices. This allows players to start the game on one iOS 5 device and then continue on another one from the point they left off previously. I really like this feature because I like to play Infinity Blade on both my iPhone and my iPad.

Infinity Blade 2 features “massively social” gameplay challenge modes, driven through back-end server support, providing new challenges for players to complete in conjunction with each other. These challenges change frequently over time, allowing for greater variation of gameplay and offering unique bonuses and rewards for participation.

    Facebook integration
is another great feature coming in Infinity Blade 2. This will allow players to post accomplishments, invite other players and friends to challenges, and utilize their Facebook network to enhance their gameplay experience.

So there’s a quick round-up of some of the latest mobile features being showcased in Infinity Blade 2. Be sure to head over to the official Infinity Blade site to learn more about the game itself.

As always, follow Unreal Engine on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with the latest annoucements!

So what amazing iOS games are you making with the Unreal Engine? What do you want to see most from Infinity Blade 2?

I want a new graphics demo, like Epic Citadel but for IB2.

Why would you want that? You can just get the game when it comes out instead

It would be really cool to see the PS Vita UDK demo live. Would the Iphone 4S or IPad2 be fast enough ?

I have this game on the new ipad and there are dynamic shadows and light rays, but no self-shadowing except in a few scenes of dialogue. I also noticed that this trailer show a better impact of sunlight on the armors. I have seen on youtube demo of Infinity Blade 2 presented on the iphone 4s and there were all these special effects, including the impact of sunlight on the armors. I hope they do an update that will make possible not only to change the game resolution but also enable all the visualizations presented in the demo, because you notice that the graphics of the demo is better than the official game
