Some of you may have noticed that the Monthly Writing Assignment has been curiously absent, or perhaps you've not noticed because you don't really care. After all, and let's be honest, what story is there in a game like Gears of War? Well, see, that's the thing. A long time ago, when Gears of War came out, it brought with it a world of tragedy, a post-apocalyptic setting and, most of all, room for writers such as I to fill in the gaps. What a wonderful opportunity that was for fan fiction, a time of mystery about the world we'd come to know and love beyond the initial draw of chainsawing scaly monsters from below Sera.

But come now, none of you are here to listen to me wax nostalgic. Most of you are here because you enjoy the story Gears of War offered. You looked further into the blank edges of the map and decided you liked what you saw, at least enough to talk of the characters, write your own stories and participate in this writing assignment.

Sadly, that time has come to an end for myself. Epic has become something I detest—a company that eschews what little canon they have. They've become a gaming company I no longer wish to assign myself a fan of. Certainly I feel no more reason to continue this farce of creating literature in a story that doesn't care for itself. So I am done with Epic. I'm done with this writing assignment. I'm done writing Gears of War. There are other reasons, some more important and some less so. The end result, however, is this:

I am done.

Feel free to continue this assignment, if you think you must. I'll not stop you—I'd never stop the opportunity for others to create literature, regardless of my own opinions. But I will still, always, be writing. You're free to join me, if you're interested. Just send me an email at Croswynd@gmail.com if you love to do so. There are other places to share your works, to grow as a writer, if you're serious about it.

Perhaps it'll even be fun.

I don't want to, but I have to say I agree. Gears will still hold a special spot, because it's the series that brought me all the things I enjoy now, but from seeing what I am from Judgement, and from what I've already seen in Gears 3, Gears just isn't the same series I fell in love with.

I support your decision, Cros, and while you're putting it away, I hope that future people who enjoy the story Gears used to have read and love your fan fiction like I have. It, along with the countless amazing pieces of literature in this section of the forum deserve to live on, despite what is happening to the story that spawned them.

Come up with a short (doesn't haven't even be a page) story around the most creative/gory actions you can imagine in Gears of War. This won't exactly be the Monthly Writing Assignment and it won't be its replacement; this thread is to stimulate Story and Characters. No judges, no contests, no grades; just you, your devious little minds and your keyboard. Get busy. Remember, creative violence.

Haven't been back in a while, because I agree with Cros all too much. Makes me really sad, because story and depth are really what made me fall in love with Gears. Epic is kind of going down the tubes without Cliff and the rest of the team that left. Oh well. I'm sure I'll buy Judgement, but I don't have high hopes. It was fun while it lasted, guys <3
