I think (don't quote me on this though)
that when you join a game, you join on the last difficulty that you were playing on.

all 4 people can play on different difficulties.

    Example:
-You start up a game on Normal
    -You invite your friend
--last time he played campaign, he was on Insane
    -your friend joins
-Now you are playing on normal, and your friend is on insane

I believe this is what happens, but I'm not 100% sure this is how it works

Wow that's a cool thing to put into the game. I'm glad I asked as I know a lad who dies every 2 minutes on normal so can now tell him to try casual.

He said it is only in Co-Op and horde (not co-op and co-op horde)

In horde if you play solo, you can't get downed (any difficulty) - as there is nobody to revive you
Co-Op (campaign) on insane, you can't get downed, you just die

    Also:
Not sure about this, buy you probably want to change your sig...I'm guessing you aren't lvl 0 on GoW3

You are 100% correct. After the chapter ends that you joined, it gives you the option to switch your difficulty.
