IGN is plagiarizing Gearspedia?

Hey guys, Mark Ryan from IGN here. I saw this thread posted on IGN's message board and wanted to address you personally. If plagiarized content is appearing in our wiki, please know that it's users posting it, not "IGN." xICooRsYIx is right--people are trying to win the Gears 3 Xbox that we're giving away and are in the process stealing content. I don't condone this at all. As a long-time guide writer I'm familiar with seeing my content published places I didn't authorize and it sucks.

Some users have already been helping us ID plagiarized content by flagging pages and we've been taking it down as fast as we can find it. I went through all of the pages linked by the OP and deleted the content I could ID as plagiarized. If you find anything else, I'd love your help flagging the pages. Or feel free to drop me a personal e-mail: markryan [[a]] ign.com.

It's cool if you still hate IGN but I would prefer you didn't hate us over this

I did not even see you'r post. It freaking pissed me off and Jedi, we work on Gearspedia for years now and IGN just steal our work and pass it as their own. Gearspedia is the work of the fans and IGN just rob us and put their logo over it.

I noticed that too, theres a few bits that are just made up.
It's completely ridiculous that they copied what you guys worked so hard on, they should at least acknowledge Gearspedia. Maybe the person that did it will get fired... or get in trouble and have to redo the whole thing, including an apology.

So someone obviously just went on the real gearspedia and copy-pasted everything thinking that would earn them the reward of the console bundle.

It even states...

I think we need to get in touch with IGN and inform them someone has cheated.

Gearspedia is truly an awesome site, but if another site is starting to copy there info, IGN must know what they can't think of info themselves so they have to go and copy an reliable site's info as they properly don't even know anything about Gears of War lol.

I think he meant that the original person who stole the content from gearspedia and submitted it on IGN's gears wiki is starting to remove what they have done. Not taking it off of the real gearspedia.
