    Default Anybody else torn between..

    ..Terrific" and "Disappointing" ?

    The long wait, the tease, new trailers, avoiding spoilers and then you finally got the game. I was pumped through the whole campaign, from the start. And I loved it. The story really got me, I was crying like a baby . Lol, was anybody else, thinking through the rest of the game Dom just reappears magically, his death felt a little forced at that point.

    Then the game is over, you have time to think about it.
    Why was it so short?
    Why did they killed Michaelson so early? Why just don't leave him in the books?
    Same for Prescott, why?
    Why was the "Cole and Baird- squad" part sooo short? It was a big part while they promoted the game and it was way too short etc. etc. etc.

    I think the MP- fans got more, then the Story-fans. Makes me wish I never read the books, since I was more into the characters (Bernie, Hoffman, Prescott, Michaelson) after reading them. Maybe that's were the disappointment comes from. Not sure what the next book is about after they killed of the interesting characters.
    I don't want it to be over . I don't want it to end like that.

    I can't help but feel a little similar, but more so in the way of how they "answered" all the questions from the previous games. It was also very "here's the answer as quick as possible, deal with it" and then no explanation beyond that. We didn't even really get any of the answers to the questions until the last hour of the game either. Just seemed like they got to Adam Fenix and then said "Oh...we forgot to answer anything yet but we have to keep the campaign under X hours. Quick have Adam spew off a few lines that tell you what happened but leave it vague."

    I also thought the Cole/Baird part being in the beginning and then no where else in the game was odd. Personally, I didn't like that part (it felt like it slowed down the game to me) but it was so random. Prescott dying so quick also irked me given that he was missing for 18 months and they never really got anything useful out of him other than the contents of the disc.

    Dom dying was probably one of the more well done parts though. Definitely hit me hard when it all happened and it was very heroic and well done.

    Yep, I wish instead of shooting my way up to him, floor after floor, we really could share a couple of minutes to chat. I see that the world was going down, but the only funny parts were with Cole/Baird squad. I know it's Gears of War but they relied heavily on the action. You don't think much about anwers, when you're surrounded by monsters and bullets.

    Personally, I didn't think the game was too short, nor do I think Dom's death was forced.

    Now that I think more about it, the story was better than I thought, with Dom dying in the place where Maria's family is buried and all. It would've been cool to get more answers, but I'm definitely satisfied.

    They made everything connect so beautifully. So many things made sense, it's kind of hard to dwell on the things that didn't , I guess.

    I'm not torn. I thought the Campaign was quite satisfying, was a great length, and a boatload of awesome fun. It's the kind of campaign I'll play over and over just for fun.

    I can't wait for the campaign DLC!

    I agree, it would have been cool to know more answers but i am definitely satisfied with how it went

    The game was long enough. The plot was too shallow.

    I'll admit, the gameplay design was fantastic, and the dramatic moments of the story did a great job of eliciting emotion, but as far as making an interesting and coherent plot goes, Gears 3 was pretty disappointing.

    It raises more questions than it answers, fails to follow through on ideas started in previous games (Sires, anyone?), and has a severe lack of characterization. My main gripe was with the latter most issue; Myrrah was wholly undeveloped as a character. Her motivations and origin are conspicuously missing: she appears human (or part human), so why and how does she command the Locust horde? Why is she sympathetic to the Locust in the first place? Why does is she so antagonizing of humanity? What exactly was her relationship with Adam Fenix? All she does throughout the story is fly around on her giant bug and tell her minions to stop Marcus. She's like some kind of one-dimensional Disney villain, but somehow even more shallow.

    That said, the characters that were focused on were actually fairly decent. Marcus gets a good deal of fleshing out (I particularly liked when he confronted Griffon after his outburst), and the supporting characters were done well. I would've liked to have learned more about Adam and gotten to see more of his personality, but as far the plot goes his characterization was done well. I guess my issue is that I was expecting Myrrah to be an compelling villain and she turned out completely flat*.

    *Don't even think about misconstruing that, you know what I meant.

    Look at it this way, one of the reasons Star Wars is considered such a great story is because it has a great villain.

    I could not possibly agree with more everything you said. Those were exactly my issues with campaign.

    That and that Griffen left, saying he had a score to settle, and never came back.

    Griffin never coming back was kinda weird. I guess Ice-T was a good way to promote the game, but as a character not so much. And maybe I was too naive but it really caught me off guard, when Dom died and after that Adam Fenix. Kinda makes Marcus replace Dom, not to mention he looked a lot like him without the do-rag. A longer epilog would've been great, Metal Gear Solid- style .
