i don't want to play as marcus!!!!!

i can't tell you how mad i get when my friends and i join a game and we are all marcus instead of the characters we chose to be in our multiplayer options menu.

then it doesn't even change until the next match!!!! i can understand not changing until the next round or until you die or something but why does this happen?

why did i pre-order characters if i can't even play as them!!!!

can someone please explain why this happens so i don't feel like a whiner just crying about some stupid issue, i would like to be informed rather than just keep complaining all the time.

When your playing social and you join a game in progress it doesn't load you preferred settings... the next game you will have your character if you stay in the lobby... You also will not have your preferred weapons until you die. It tells you this when join the game...

im not a total idiot, this i already know. my question was more geared toward a technical explanation of why this has to be this way, but thanks anyway i guess.

It gives you your weapon skins and such, and in gears 1 or 2 if you spawned as marcus it would change back to your character the next round. this happened in the beta too (forced to play as marcus the whole time), so i have to agree that it's very strange

I think I've played as Marcus and Drone more than I have my preferred characters.

The technical explanation behind this is: If another player already in the game is playing as the same character as you. You will spawn as your selected character. If you join a game in progress and noboddy has your character you will have to wait. Reason behind this is because no one is using them so the assets weren't loaded (skin not loaded for everyone). the only way you could join a match and play as your skin is if when anyone joins the game pauses and downloads the assets required for the match so everyone can use/see them, which obviously being in Quick Match people come and go all the time and would be way more frustrating than just waiting till the next match.

If the server doesn't load your character, then it does not exist. No one will see or hear you. If we defer loading to during a match, it would load very slowly, it could cause memory issues, and it would cause unacceptable hitches to gameplay for everyone else in the server.

It will load all your info at the next match.

I don't really want to play as Marcus either but OP I don't share your passion haha. I'd rather just spawn as my guy but that's not possible and I'm ok with that.
