Can I level up in offline mode?

Since you need to level/rank up in Gears to get new costumes and unlock characters, can that be done in offline? I don't have Xbox Live and I think I'll stick to Bots which I actually prefer, or splitscreen with my friend or brother.

Edit: Okay, I'm having trouble finding one. But you gain XP while playing all modes (campaign, Horde, versus, and Beast) whether you're online or offline.

The XP gained in these methods is very low however. The rate that you will rank up is very very slow compared to ranking up online.
