Default A few basic questions about Horde 2.0

So Horde 2.0 looks simply, amazing. RPG like leveling qualities and being able to keep your levels from game to new game are really great ideas. But how does the bases thing work?

I saw a short video of someone in horde mode who started a base, but then later they bought another base somewhere else on the map.

Whats the point of doing this? How many bases can you have?

You buy new command posts (bases) to be able to build fortifications around them. The maps are huge so you want to have many areas fortified to weaken the enemies before they get to you.

At least I think that's what it does. xD

I believe there are 5 bases on every map.

Every base comes with a set of fortifications you can build around it.

So you can choose to either build a single, high-level base, or build multiple, low-level bases (or something in between). It's just to give you some different ways of playing horde.

You can have all five players bunker down in a small area, or perhaps split the group in half and build up two command posts to divide the enemies. You can even build five bases, and have each player get their own little area to work with. You can choose to build bases that are close to each other and combine them into one huge super-fortress, or you can buy the ones that are spread around the map and have little outposts across the map.

Again, it's all to give you new ways to play the game. But it's worth it to note that with each command post you buy, the next one will become progressively more expensive. Naturally, the first command post you build is free.

Can COGs walk through their own fortifications and if you can does it do damage? Like will the lasers kill you like they do in Security..will barbwire hurt you if you roll over them?

Can enemies spawn in command post areas? If not, what happens if you get every single command post? WOuldn't the enemies be trapped then in one small area?

You can walk through them and they won't hurt you. I'm not sure if you can damage your own fortifications though (I'm primarily concerned with explosives).

I'd imagine that command posts prevent enemies from spawning in that area. But keep in mind that every command post you buy is more expensive than the last. So getting all five is going to take a lot of time and resources even without building any actual fortifications.

Also, I'm pretty sure that there will be enough space in each map so there will always be at least a few places for the enemies to spawn.

Thanks for the answers KloHunt3r. How fast does the leveling go for turrets/sentrys/barriers anyways?

    I have no idea.

It looks like for your first game you'll only be able to put up first-level defenses, but I don't know how long you have to play before you can build maximum-level fortifications.

This is pretty accurate. And yes, if you own a command post and (here's the key) if a teammate is standing near it, then no enemies will spawn within the boundaries of the base.

But bases are expensive, so even building two means you will have significantly weakened both of them. At higher waves, it will be near impossible to maintain multiple bases due to the strength of the enemies and the cost of maintenance / repair.

Speed of leveling is depenent on how successful you are and what you choose to invest in. Once you've unlocked sentries, for example, you can choose to ignore everything else and just focus on that one fotification type. Or you can never buy a single fortification ever, and invest all your money in weapons, ammo, etc.

Generally speaking, barriers will level the fastest, simply because there are more of them than any other fortification type, not to mention that they're the first to unlock and take damage virtually every round so they require a lot of investment to maintain.

Oh, and I'm still curious about the "blow up your own fortifications" thing.

If a bunch of drones get caught in my caltrops, and I throw a grenade at them, will I destroy the fortification, too?

Do you know whats the highest level a fortification could be leveled up to? I think it would be awesome to grind a sentry to level 100, for example imagine the power

It looks like each fortification has 4 levels.

    Barriers
    1 - Caltrops (spike strip)
    2 - Barbed wire
    3 - Electric wire
    4 - Laser wire

    Decoys
    1 - Cardboard cut-out (of Cole)
    2 - Mannequin
    3 - Armored mannequin
4 - Armored mannequin with boombox

    Sentries
    1 - Low damage
    2 - Increased damage
3 - Electric damage (adds stun)
    4 - ?

    Turrets
    1 - Quad Retro Lancers
    2 - Quad Lancers
3 - Chain gun (? not sure, conflicting descriptions)
    4 - Troika

    Silverback
1 - A Silverback. There are no upgrades to this fortification.

That's your fortification skill. In between the levels that unlock new fortification upgrades, you get other bonuses such as decreased construction/repair costs.

So level 1 allows you to build the first level fortification, level 2 might reduce repair costs by 10%, and then level 3 would let you upgrade to to the second upgrade level of the fortification.

    I think.

I was wondering what could be the highest level though? For example, could you possibly level up your fortifications so high that their nearly free or uberly powerful? That would be wild

Excellent info, slightly off though. I have seen a video with a guy who bought the lvl 1 sentry. When he purchased the level 2 version it had the electric stun added.

Decoys- I thought EPIC released their trailer of Horde that had explosives attached to high level decoys?

I've seen that in videos, too. But every written description of the level 4 decoy only mentions the boombox. I think the explosions actually come from planting grenades on the decoys after you purchase/upgrade them (one article specifically mentions players being able to do this).

And yeah... that sentry info is probably off. I don't see much footage of it actually being upgraded, so I'm not sure what each level does.

Final bump for anyone who might know the max level of fortifications. Otherwise the topic dies here
