    Time. An irreversible flow that follows us from the moment of birth to our eventual death. Noone is capable of altering or changing it in any way— or so we are lead to believe.

    There exists a movement of people who have become enlightened by letting go of their earthly restraints and freed their minds, paving the way to unlimited potential. This has allowed them to develop not only immense and diverse mental powers, but gain an insight into the flow of time itself as well. By carefully influencing time itself, they have glimpsed at some of the greatest minds in history and, through them, achieved vast technological advances that could never have been completed in any one lifespan.

    This elusive order calls itself the Shifters, led by a single enigmatic man who calls himself Chronos, though he is referred to many as “Father” as well. The Shifters rely on Chronos as more than just a leader, however. He is their guide, their teacher, their saint and they venerate him like a God, with untold powers that others can only wish for.
    The reason for this is his ideal, his goal, his vision for the future; to create an utopian world wherein none need suffer any longer.

    To this end the Shifters have gone far and wide to improve every aspect of their transcendent technology until they reach a point where any disease can be cured, any mouth fed and every threat countered. Space travel has allowed the Shifters to explore previously unknown worlds and discover new materials and other resources that are still unknown to the rest of humanity. Through these various achievements the Shifters have created a new home for themselves, undetectable by conventional means. A city floating in the sky which they have named the Pendulum.

    Chronos continues to recruit new indivuals from which he expects great things; he prides himself in his capacity for sensing the potential in people, the possibility of unlocking their minds. And so the Shifters grow, slowly, steadily...until they are ready to reveal themselves to the world and uplift humanity as a whole.

    The main problem they face are the consequences tied to their own powers. The stronger any individual becomes, the greater the risk of a timerift occurring; a tear in the fabric of time caused by overexerted powers and wild ambitions. Despite their belief of being somehow beyond normal humans, they are still prone to error. And the greater their power, the stronger those mistakes ripple through time.

    Those caught in the timerift are forever changed, their minds warped, caught between several splintered versions of themselves, ultimately driving them mad, turning them into being branded “Drifters”.

    Chronoshift is a Action-RPG with shooter elements made by student from the "Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen". This thread will be updated regularly / dayly since this is a requirement of school.

    Have you seen the new video yet? Take a look at our first crosshair concept ingame, the first Phantom ability: Teleport and our Custom Health regeneration system at work.

    If you don't know allready, our custom health regeneration works as followed: There will be certain health levels. If you go below a certain health level, your health will regenerate to the according level. The levels are 25, 50, 75 and 100. This allows the player to always have a bit of health extra after every fight. To get over a certain health level you need to find health packs.

    I'm really digging the camera style you’ve gone for. A really nice 3rd person cam that’s also gathering your location at any exact point, what will that be used for?

    Loving the high jump also, not too over the top and looks believable.

    it is in fact a school project, yes. The entire project background is about new media (social media). We all really wanted to make an awesome game and for school we just have to advertise it really well.

    On the team size: I would reeeeealllly like to have more people working on it because we always want more assets and levels for the game. but for now it's just us 5. 1 programmer (me) and 4 art/level/character/animation guys.

    When we finish it (around januari 2012) we plan to bring a 'beta' out to the public. We try to get as much people to get to know Chronoshift. and after a beta period i would really like to keep working on it. But only if it's succesfull. If alot of people really like the game. we would like to keep the end project FTP (free to play) and make special content available for a certain price. Special content may contain better armor / skins, a different weapon for 1 class and many more.

    This will all only be achievable if i can get stuff to work

    A health system has been made! I could post a video but its not that interesting. How it works: when the player takes damage, he regenerates after a few seconds. He only regenerates to a certain health level (25, 50, 75, 100). For this weekend i will be working on custom damage indicators so the player knows he's being hit and from where.

    The art guys have been making custom weapons today. Lots of concept art and almost finished drawings will be uploaded soon.

    A small update to keep you all interested

    one of our concept/art guys is sick so progress there goes a bit slower than expected... Too bad but not a real problem yet

    Programming has made a bit of progress on the AI of bots. Bots wil now walk around random using pathnodes and notes. So the level designers can edit how far they want every bot to walk around. There are still some bugs in this area but i will post a video soon showing what this looks like

    and that's about it for now.

    Update:

    Progress goes a bit slow now. Programming department has to do a few bug fixes and has to get multiplayer in pretty damn soon.

    art is going to make more assets this week. and i hope they can get the first base model done for the player. that would be awesome

    Experience system has been made! Tomorrow i will make ability levels which means when the player levels up (by kills or completing quests) his abilities will become stronger

    An example for this is: Slowing your enemy - level 1: making your enemy 50% slower, level 2: making your enemy 75% slower, level 3: Complely stopping your enemy untill he gets attacked, level 4: Stopping multiple enemies.

    the ability to fast forward yourself making you faster at running and shooting (kinda like rapid fire). the ability to "rewind" looted weapons, ect. (if there are any) to a better condition

    Hey guys, here's a little update about what you can expect to see here the next couple of days.

    We have a working save system - it only has to be optimized and made complete.
    We really want a Strafing system - I will implement a double click on a direction key to be a strafe in that direction.
    The current melee system works with a trace. When it hits an enemy; the enemy will die. kind of boring. I'll do some research how i can make the melee aspect more fun.
    Half of our team wants a cover system - It will allow the player to take cover behind certain objects. We're thinking about making these 'cover objects' destructible. -Research

    And that's about it for this week. The multiplayer aspect of the game is not being handled at all because i am the only programmer in this project. I'm affraid things won't get finished and the game won't be complete. Multiplayer will come when we're moderately happy with the single player.

    small update: Custom ammo pickups are now available.

    Level designers can now place specific weapon ammunition in the level and the correct player will be able to pick it up.
