    Also, I picked up every single piece of money on the map and then saved. After I loaded the save, all of the money was back on the map again. Just thought you may need to keep it from respawning like that unless you really want it to.

    Anyway, can't wait til the next download and see what you've done.

    I'm not selling the game because I don't have a 3500 Dollar Autodesk license. Who's scared here?

    I'm only kindly asking for donations to the extensive work of the full source code i'm giving away. No one has to give anything.

    If you clearly read my work in progress you would see that i am not selling the game anymore. It is a free download, it's for FREE and you don't have to pay a cent.

    The only reason why I need the license is because I am accepting donations towards the cause of the game. The documentation will be pertaining to the game/UDK therefore i will be needing the 99 dollar license which i will be purchasing tomorrow.

    So i have been taking everyones suggestions, This is the stuff that has so far been worked on/completed Highlighted in Red

    First, the intro pacing is extremely too long. Two quick blurbs of story I didn't have time to read, then a few minutes of blank space while we wait on europe to rotate around. I couldn't really show this to anyone without waiting for that unskippable scene to be done.

    Controls at this point are real clunky. It's difficult to pick-up any item or press any button without navigating directly above it while sliding around on what feels like ice.

    Every puzzle is "find the key for this door", and every "key" is a tiny set of keys in the corner of some room. Anyway to mix that up? ( I think people will like this a bit more now. )

    You need a way to restore health or the health system is kinda pointless.

    Forgot on note: At one point, I went in a room, and it sounded like someone was in pain somewhere on the other side of the room. I didn't hear or notice anything else. After a while, my health was going down some. I turned around, and a zombie had been beating on me for all that time. A few more audio/visual feedback ques on that would be great. Zombie grunting, melee impact, some hit effect, etc.


    I encountered a small glitch where the "hints" pop-up stopped the game from progressing because when I pushed "Yes" nothing happened. Not sure if you're aware but that was fun.*

    I re-loaded my progress from the main menu and played with hints off. Eh... The game was really kinda tough to figure out with them off. Even having read here on the forums about "every puzzle being a set of keys in the corner of a room" I had some real difficulties in some places.*


    I worked out things to make it more obvious

    And one last nitpick, you should set the light that spawns behind you for your nightvision effect to not cast shadows.*


    Once i am satisfied and fix all of the issues then i will release the 1.2 Beta

    Um, I believe it's 3,500 to buy a version of 3dsmax that allows you to sell models that you plan to profit or collect revenue from. The 99$ part is relative to UDK's license, not 3dsmax.
    I could be wrong.

    Agent, me personally, I wouldn't put in so much work into this, and then and say here everybody have fun for free, and then start on next project. I believe your project is commercial worthy. I think you wanted to sell it for $5 before. I personally think you should keep working towards that goal.
    Much like myself with "Shulu" I think you put this out too early before you got all your ducks in a row.

    Instead of just blabbling my mouth, here is an option that you can work towards so no one is discouraged by 3dsmax high priced software.

    I suggest investing in Zbrush 4. In Zbrush 4 you can model characters from scratch there, and unwrap and texture there. Same thing for props.
    That would be the first program I would save up for if I was you. It's only $700, for what it does.

    Then there is Blender or Cinema 4d. Alternative to 3dsmax. Those are 3dsmax's little nephews. Unfortuantly, but there are just 2 things you need from Blender and Cinema 4d. Well 3.

    1 Which has the best way to rig a character the easiest way possible
    2 Which one has the best interface for animating your character
    3 Which one exports Actor x and .ase files

    That's it.

    Just save up for them if you can, or through donations, and you will be unstoppable.
    It just sucks to start learning all over again, but you will get used to their interfaces
    quickly.


    So if you have it in you to go through your game, and look at your models and replace them with props and characters that you did in Zbrush or Blender, then you will be on the right track to being an official seller. Everyone already wants to play your game, and they will be butt heads not to buy it when it's legit. Real butt heads.
    Just make a full game of this and make a demo of one mission of this game for everyone to play.

    3500 is for the Maya Autodesk License. I will obvoiusly purchase the 99 dollar license so that i may make profit from the Online Documentation. If i get enough donations for that i will definitely buy the 3500 dollar Maya license then sell the REAL full game for 4.99 that was my original plan. Confusing but it works.

    Thanks Winwar for the backup everything you said is what i meant. I messed with blender and frankly i hate it. I used it for 5 months and i cannot get into it. I tried Zbrush but I work better with mudbox, I like zbrush though so i will probably purchase that in time.

    Licensing and its terms can be confusing and complex. Its not for the light hearted.

    Again thanks everyone for the support! As i said before no one has to donate for the documentation. Eventually i will be able to purchase the 3500 dollar license.

    It will be much faster if i get help however that's life.

    Again i still plan on selling the full game for 4.99!!! Source still included. I mean who sells a demo?

    Very interesting! Still needs work but it is a beta/demo. It's always good to do a pre release so that you know what to work on. I think you did a pretty great job so far. Is it just you or do you have a team?

    I must say it felt like a game and it was quite fun shooting the zombies. I really like the feel of the weapons.

    How ever when looking at the code side of it It wasn't as impressive. For example a general rule is not to do a "ForEach" iteration in the Tick Generally you shouldn't do anything in the tick. And for example setting the ground speed every tick just doesn't seem that effective. Just some food for thought.

    Overall I'm impressed, keep it up mate.

    I'm not a code master, so I probably did stupid things during the development of this game. My code is MUCH better now, so stuff like sprinting and "foreach" in a tick is something i would never do now.

    I really have to re haul the code though, which class did you find that iteration in?

    One of the more major one was removing the whole ingame Hint system which caused too many problems.

    Instead what i did was put it in the MainMenu to be viewed when the player wants to.

    I am confused on the part with turning on the generator, two things, why do you need a key for a generator, and where is it?

    i was hoping someone would figure it out haha

    you need to find the key first its in the room next to the generator. you must destroy the wooden glowing barrier, its in a corner.

    once you have the key you turn the crank by pressing "E" in front of it then quickly move towards the lights where the key goes and press use.

    it should then power on the room.

    you have about 1.3 seconds else the crank turns back and deactivates.

    Nice, it was blending in with the floor, and I think you may need some variations in puzzle design. I like the ending, very nice, but what is pulling you down, and, jsyk, there is a tyrant in the big room close to the first generator that just stuck in the wall for me, lol. Anyway, good luck with this, it is a very nice game and I would most certainly buy it for $5 on release.

    I played the demo, but in the first room I found it impossible to pick up the key -.-
    Other Issues I found:
    1. when you jump, its sometimes possible to look in the next floor
    2. when you jump and look down, you can see inside your body
    3. when you press "p", it starts to lagg insanely

    You should be able to get near the key and just hit E, i had no issues picking it up. It has a rather nice radius to pick it up.

    I know about the collision with the head and the camera. ;P

    I need to adjust the animtree in order to get the body to move a bit so your head wont go through.

    I have no idea what is mapped to the P key and why you would press it hahaha.


    That's weird though. Ill look into it.

    Finally! I've been waiting to actually sit down and play a polished build since you started, gotta say I love what you've done so far

    Nice game!
    Especially like the vision and the base story line.
    Also I found the pickups to stand out but in a good way.

    Critic:
    -The keys need some work. Maybe a material blend where you see them really good in nightvision mode?
    -The first set of keys I found annoying cause I couldnt pick them up. Move them to the lab room or have them appear after getting the gun. Maybe from an explosion?
    -Work on the voices. Adjust the volume a tad up so it can be hear over the music.

    Looking forward to the next updated version, and I love that you are so confident that you can post the codes.

    I'm curious to why the keys are so hard to pick up?

    how far are you from the keys. You do have to be close to the keys to pick em up (Press "E"). Maybe ill just make the radius really high.

    Hey!

    First of all, gotta say that you have a very strong demo and your code will probably help a ton of people, so great job!

    With that said, just some questions/opinions/feedback:

    Are the keys locked until the player gets the gun?
    To me it feels like they are and that's probably why some think they are very difficult to pick up. Maybe make some triggered action to spawn them after the gun is picked up.

    When I pickup the paper next to the dead zombie, the shadow stays on the surface.

    Why do I need a key to kick the door out? xD

    Like some said previously, there is to much "find the key" puzzles and some variety would be good. Maybe some physics oriented puzzles could look cool.

    That's probably the style you want but I feel that there is to much glow around objects and lights. I showed the game to a couple of friends (gamers) and that was the first thing they told me when I asked for their opinion. (Right before "How the hell do i open the tunnel?" lol)

    The difference between the walking speed and sprint speed is to extreme, he walks to slow and runs to fast, he should walk a little faster and sprint a little slower imo.

    Last but not least, the Gunplay: This is the aspect of the game i liked the most, its a lot of fun shooting down the zombies, the gory stuff is nice and the rifle has a good feeling to it. There is the occasional ragdol glitch when the zombies die, but that happens in every game.

    Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to help out.

    In all technicalities, an Open Source game can be used any way you need, but his terms clearly state that...
    You DO NOT have permission to use my content in any of your creations free or commercial. It is for testing/ learning purposes only. You are free to use the Code however.
    This is not a Starter Pack of any kind. It is meant for learning. I repeat you may use the code, but not any of the art assets at all. In your free/commercial game.
    Now what that does mean is that you could pick apart his code and make your own game (to sell or freely release) by making codes similar to his.
