Default Maya models and the lightmaps for them.

    Hey guys,
I tend to research everything and search for previous threads on my previous problems, but this time had no luck!
So basically, I export my maya model using actorx into an ase file, everything works fine without a hitch..

So I made a basic scene in UDK to test the lightmap for this certain model, and it basically does not want to comply with me at all (yes I am choosing the correct map for the lightmap which is set as 1).
In maya I am just doing an automatic creation of the UV's for the lightmap (with 3 planes) and you can see it below.
Is there any particular reason I can't get the shadow I want on my object?
Included are 2 shots of the scenes set up where it shows the failed lightmap after building lighting, and a shot of the lightmap used in UDK.

Note: I have had some pretty technical people look at this and are more than sure the problem is in the maya file and creating the lightmap in that.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers guys!

Have you read this yet? LightMapUnwrapping

Specifically the Contiguous Shells advice, and the padding needed to avoid artifacts.

Hey thanks for the reply, I've followed the tut and read the notes without any luck still... Getting the exact same results.
Can anyone tell me their steps to building a basic maya lightmap? Maybe I'm missing a simple detail?
