You have to have something solid for your character to stand on
i fall without being in play mode.

How would you even know you are falling? Everything is black before you put in any content. Are you sure you just don't understand what is going on?
A screenshot could potentially shed some light.
yeah im sure its not me. i know im falling because if i rotate the view enough i can see the cube moving farther away. i opened one of the ut maps and it does the same falling thing on the same view port type.

Sounds like you somehow made play-in-viewport the default mode of one of the viewports.
Have you tried reinstalling?
no but thats next.

I guess there is no floor under your player, or if the floor is a static mesh you haven't set up collisions. Be sure to locate your PlayerStart actor just over the floor. And I think you should give this tutorial http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_vid...528fe5ab09b0c6 a go.
Actually I'm having the exact "camera falls" problem. I'm completely sure I'm not in PIE (Play in Viewport) or anything similar. It behaves as if I had the Q key pressed. I can stop falling if I press the E key but as soon as I release it the camera starts falling again. It will also fall faster or slower depending on the "Camera Movement Speed" setting (the partially blue button on top of the viewport).
Great! I just found a solution while writing this reply, I'll post it here in case anyone else gets this rather weird problem: "View" -> "Viewport Configuration" -> "2x2 Split". That fixed the problem here (I can then maximize the perspective viewport again)

THen
1. click on Build Paths
2. Create a kills set for the map.
Its kinda like a boundry where if the player steps outside it, they'd die.

My Models...Obviously not the best
What's happened is that your default setting is play in viewport. Try clicking the blue arrow that has that tooltip and see if that stops it.
