    Default Is UT3 dead? (PC)

As title, I can barely find a match with my Ping is lower than 200. Most SVs are empty. Think maybe we could have a UT3 freemonth on Steam. This game is great. EG please don't let this game die

    Hey Nokiase,

Well that depends of what u mean by "dead" and where u are located also.
It's OF COURSE nowhere near of the activity of some realistic shooters, and according to this; it's dead...Or at least deader and deader.
On the other hand, i will take the example for Europe. It's not dead, or far to be completely. Tbh i am sometimes surprised to see the numbers of servers in dm for example filled up (and full) also in some other standard gametypes (tdm/bta;warfare) regarding the state of the game ofc.

    Basically the situation here is:
I can find from i would say, 14h00-01h00+ servers full in any standard gametypes.
BTA/TDM-DM-DUEL-WARFARE-VTCF-ICTF . I only play bta-tdm and ictf on pubs but some fast look on the browser several times gave me this sight.

UT3 is currently active but not as active as we all want it to be.

Down in South America(or I should say, Argentina), UT3 is plenty active and the players down there are committed to the game, I should say. Theres only a few servers but they are put to good use.

Now in Europe, you have a very active community of all game types. DM, TDM, CTF, VCTF, Warfare, and Duel are all very active. Everyone is close and has good pings over in Europe.

Russia has it's own community, consisting of mostly small team games and duel, which is fairly active considering the amount of players it has.

North America is a disappointment for this game, really. Pure CTF and TDM are dead, which are my favorite game types. Instagib CTF is active, but not as good as pure CTF in my opinion. As far as TDM goes, I'm pretty sure that sniper TDM and maybe 1 pure TDM server is active as of now. DM is very active with two popular servers. Duel is fairly active with 3 servers if you ask someone to duel. VCTF is pretty active with a few servers. Warfare is active. And Greed is always active.

And that's a fairly good explanation of the communities in UT3! Have fun finding who you fit in with in your region!

    Correction:
CTF is pretty dead here in Europe too compared to the other gametypes (sadly). You don't see servers with a decent amount of people that often. The only reason I play vCTF is because it is popular and quite similar in gameplay (for example on maps like AnarchyHalls)

Yup, it isn't that much different here. A bit more active than in North America, but I doubt that it is such a big difference.

I'd rather play Unreal in Europe than North America, though. Unless it's UT99 .

I'm in the los angeles area and can always fing a few deathmatch games under 100 ping. All other gametypes are not so good.

Just putting that there since a lot of people are talking about EU and US servers, which I don't think would ping that great from Taiwan anyway.

If curious....what do you guys think if UT3 gonna have a freemonth on Steam; or even further become EG's play4free.

I think most/all of us support the idea or a free month. It's been suggested before and last time we had a free month it did bring in a burst of fresh players. Epic doesn't seem interested though.

Maybe it's time for UT3 to just be available to people for free.

Good idea. "Flogging a dead horse" springs to mind. In fact, it's time for Epic to abandon the UT series now - it's been in decline ever since the original UT99, nothing will ever be as much fun as when it first came out.

I don't think it's a complete case of it's dead. Moreso that most UT3r's play offline against bots.
The mapping community is still going strong with new threads appearing every day!
New maps are always getting downloaded so there's definately still interest.

Now if maybe some official UDK intergration started happening then who knows what could happen...

It's not dead. Those players just had to go out and play ****ty games to put UT3 back into perspective.

UT3...dead?! This is a bad joke! UT will never be dead, even UT3! I've learned a nice fact myself, that nowadays, there aren't that many nice games, which you can play for a long time. There are still some nice games, which make a lot of fun for a long time, e.g. Battlefield and StarCraft, but Unreal has always been great and still is. UT3 for the way, in my opinion!

All i can say UT3 is the only game which i still play on my PC, so i find it pretty much alive. It has many maps, custom user content(which is free and not a commercial half-baked low-quality DLC), and i play it online or offline since its release.

Actually when somebody would ask me which game new game i would buy today, besides Starcraft 2 as a positive answer, i realy couldnt find any game that has quality and strong community as UT franchise, that would keep me playing it for a long time.
Including the fact that i absolutely dont like the fact that newer games require constant connection, i find that choice more narrow.

Agreed. A lot of UT3's mods and maps have a lot of time put into them and have a ton of re playability. UT3 may not have a huge player base like other popular games, but it is enough to keep me barely satisfied.

Nova, try to contact Flak and ask her to reset your password and to send a mail to your real/current email.
If she needs any proof that it's you, tell her about something you did back then, tell her about something she may have sent you back then or about another event like a conversation that happened in the past (and quote one of the PMs, she'll be probably able to look them up) that just you and Flak can know about.

late EDIT: @ topic: No it's not. Can we now stop bumping and creating such topics? Thanks. :/

Shame I still play 2v3, 3v3 and 4v4 in UT99 with my friends (yeah, "clan internals"), since UT3 never really worked more than 6 months. Then all the flaws for competitive gaming really made the game more unappealing than fun, hence the inactivity in the genre imho.

Ain't that the sad truth. Heck, there's still a group of hardcore UT99 fans playing CTF clan-match-style 5v5 PUG matches that they organize over Internet Relay Chat (IRC).

I was very fortunate to fall in love with the 4x-RTS Sins of a Solar Empire (which I only play in online multiplayer). I'm hoping it will keep me occupied until a bona-fide UT99-2 is released, if ever.

Depends how you define a "dead" game.

Lack of active clans, little to no activity on clanbase, only a few populated servers.
I'd call that "dead". If it was alive I'd have at least 3 EU warfare servers to choose from, each full of players.

Other people won't call a game "dead" until there is absolutely no players at all.
