    Default Custom Weapon 3P positioning

    Hi guys,
I've recently created a new weapon for UDK using Blender 2.56b as my modeling package. I've managed to get the 1P and 3P meshes installed but when viewing the 3P mesh the character carries the gun between his knees! It's sort of funny....

Anyway, what do you do to fix this issue? Note this is on the 3P mesh and not the 1P mesh (I.e. 1P mesh is fine where it is.). Is there a playerviewoffset option for 3P models like there is in UTWeapon.uc?

The 3rd person model attaches via a socket, usually. You can offset it from there, but if your model is appearing between the players knees, chances are it isn't attached to anything.

You may just need to move the 3p model up a bit to the correct position in the skeletal mesh view.

@DemoMan2 make sure your root bone for the 3P weapon is at 0,0,0 when you export it, this is the point that the code "attaches" the weapon to the characters hand socket

    Thanks Guys!
That's probably the problem. It's one of my first rigged models so I'm sure it's a bone thing. All the others seem to be working fine.

BTW Thanks GeoDav for all those video tutorials! I've been watching all of the UDK ones and many in the UT3 department as well. Your hard work hasn't gone to waste! How's the UT40K mod going? I've been looking at the WarHammer 40K stuff at the hobby shop and think that it would be a cool UDK game. I seem to have developed a strong desire to drive a Rhino in UDK.

    Wow! Thanks GeoDav!
I will be downloading that latter today! Looking forward to see what evil things you put into the game.

Weapon coding going well on this side. I still have tweaks to do but it's looking better. Hopefully this week I will get that nasty bot habit of holding weapons with your knee's fixed. That will be a big improvement for sure.

Btw Geodav, I downloaded your UDK 40k mod today and gave it a whirl. Pretty good stuff! I liked the gameplay. Weapons and vehicles seem to work well together. Bots however don't seem to know what to to. I suspect you need some path nodes in those levels. I think this is going to be great fun when your finished with it. I really liked your zoom in sniper rifle!

I repaired my weapon this evening and it was a bone problem as expected. Simply put when I merged the model and armature together I forgot to remove lamp and camera in blender. So they got merged into the .PSA export and made a mess of things. So I removed camera and light and re-imported into UDK and now it works fine. Thanks guys!

I have the same problem, left hand is under the gun, too far away, the placement of b_gun_lefthand does not work.
    Anyone can help?
I've been searching the forum with no luck, some say to edit Animtree, so I edited CH_AnimHuman_Tree.AT_CH_Human, but it did not work.
