Post Thinking mans FPS (Animator Wanted)

    PROJECT NAME
Working on it... how about Sue?

    DESCRIPTION
A tactical shooter with realistic properties.
The focus is on close quarter engagements using real world weapons, locations and player capabilities.

All the features of a modern tactical shooter, such as...
    • unlocks
    • achievements
    • perks
    • classes
    • cover system
    • DLC

    ... will not be included.

Instead, time will be spent on supporting features like:
    • A true first person viewpoint.
    • An intuitive movement system based on a standard FPS keyboard & mouse setup.
    • Multiple player positions, including prone.
    • Advanced weapon handling, including collision, bracing & positions (low ready, sul etc).
    • Improved inventory system, with support for player loadout & weapon customisation.
    • Head tracking support via standard webcam.
    • Customizable scenario support.

To see some of these features in action, check out the video below and download the TFP demo (source included).

    PLAN
The current plan is to get a basic version together while getting familiar with the tech and each other.
The basic version will hopefully include:
    • basics of the movement system
    • handgun support with 3-6 handguns
    • basic unarmed combat (punch, kick etc)
    • basic equipment (holster, mag pouch etc)
    • basic character customization (skin choice & equipment positioning)

A player model was purchased by a friend involved in the project in a haphazard sort of way.
This model is currently being worked on by Bern.

In the meantime, I'm fumbling my way through various animations.

    FILLED POSITIONS
Project Management, Gameplay Programming & Overall Design
    Me, myself & I.
The rate I'm going, I'll be adding "Basic Animator & PR" to that list.
For a look at some of my earlier work, visit my site.

    3D Artist(?)
What ever he wants to be called, its filled by Bern.
    He's from Finland.
Could be worse... could be from Australia.

    AVAILABLE POSITIONS
    Animator
This person would be responsible for the bulk of the player animations.
Ability to model and rig a bonus, but not required.
Familiarity with CQB tactics and weapon handling would be great, but again, not required.

    EXAMPLES

See this thread for info, download & source of TFP Demo shown above.

I've always liked the advice I read somewhere about being prepared to do everything yourself... asset requirements have made that a lot damn harder.

I am not an animator and certainly no modeler.
Thanks to a friends donation (of sorts) I can at least progress with some animation work.
    Basics model in-game is easy.
    Making it modular, easier still.
Animating it all, not so much.
Yet to use the kinect to capture animation, but it has merit.

    Fun fun fun.

I've also been talking to Bern, not quite that much but still. I was interested in writing some code, but as I told him in our PM's, I could provide some modeling, level design and/or scaleform.

Nice to see you here crazy, I'm sure there's lots to do as things progress.

Jusko, I could try to rig & animate that character you got. I can rig it and if animations suck, nothing is lost, we can still be searching that animator Also I'm getting a good reason to try that kinect mocap, haven't used my 360 for playing since when.
About the low poly version I was talking (you said not needed at the moment)..What I meant to say that it'll be easier/better to rig it if i retopology it and make normals.

Gonna start model that handgun today also

Edit: Oh and Jusko, maybe you could add that roadmap information on the first post of this thread. That
way ppl could see where this project is and what's next..I'm sure that wall of text is going to be ignored by many

Just a quick bump..m1911 is on hold (still under construction of course), I've been concentrating on the retopo/rigging now 'cause I think having a good rigged player model is gonna help us to find that animator.

@Bern - That is probably for the best. My efforts in rigging and animating leave a lot to be desired (thus far). It also means less time coding.

This is a very animation dependent game.

hey this sounds like a really good game, i have always wanted a game EXACTLY like this one, i am interested in helping out on the project and maybe joining it, i am learning unrealscript and i know a bit about c++. I am also good at level design, kismet, matinee, alright at photoshop and i am alright at modeling and animating. I have a video of a bit of stuff i have done, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9uB5xw5NrU. Everything is my first, first alright model, first animations on a good model, first time implemented gun into udk, and first udk video update. I am learning really quickly and i am good at using common sense and solving problems. I also am good at being thorough and thinking of things no one else thinks of.

i saw your animator advertisement.... i am currently working on a game and although i have some modelers working on the project obviously animation is a bear . I did find a site that if you can afford some expenditures you can animate your own models or create them in there thru a gui. the site is www.mixamo.com . I have tried some of the free animations just thought id help what little i could for your project but if i land an animator who can work on both ill let ya know .

    nice work btw

Updated information, description and the like.
    Still looking for animator.
Working on using a Kinect for motion capturing.
Should help speed up the creation of basic stance and movements animations.
    Interesting stuff.

If you haven't already, download and check out the TFP demo.
Its based on code from this project and shows of some of the basic features (such as the true first person viewpoint).

Knowing me, I probably missed your message and/or got it mixed in with other stuff.
I do that, then suddenly come across it months later.

Need to update or remove this until I have something better to show.
