I assure you the site does work. And by the looks of the download counter other people are able to view it. So the problem is on your end.

That being said, for some strange reason when I click the link the page is messed up (some text and buttons missing),
but when I go to the downloads section directly from my site everything's fine. I've already tested the link on another forum and it works fine, so there has to be some strange issue on this specific forum...

Anyway, if any of you guys have had a chance to actually play it, I would be interested to hear some feedback.

    EDIT:

Added a mirror download on mediafire, for those that can't access my site.

    Hi Remus,

Been a long time I didn't saw a map coming from you

I've dwn from your site & I'm from Canada.

Just had a match & I can say that in all, it's a nice one.

This type of maps are rare from the start & isn't easy to pull off.

I must say I enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, the playing style. I like your lighting, it's nice & smooth on the eye.

Therefore, I had some frustrating moments caused by bad playerstrat location/direction. In some moments, I spawn in front of a wall, other, just on the ledge of the building & fall down !

Pickups, mainly health, ammo are good for the most part but in some cases could had been better imho.

I would had suggest small things if there was a beta but since it's a final, I won't bother.

    Anyway, THX for your work

Hahah, come on, you know me, there is no "final". So by all means, tell me what suggestions you have. I'll have to do some tweaks anyway, since I've started noticing the "face to wall" spawn points you mentioned.

Well, ok then, since your making some tweaks

    - Indeed, playerstart is the biggest issue. Make sure all of them face a weapon base or a worthy (armor / powerup) item or pickups (vials / ammo) that isn't to far before collecting a weapon

    - There are areas where there isn't nothing to collect & others lot's of stuff nearby. It need to be more balanced in that regard & also not tho much close to walls (a minimum of 32 uu's, suggest 64 uu's or more) to prevent bad flow.

    - I had no idea where the jumpad lead me ??? Odedge made some directional jumpad a while ago. For a example, you can look DM-Hard fall by SuperAlgae, the best map of this kind I'm aware of in all aspects.

    - The reflecting texture in the windows is ugly. It's just that I always found that Liandri stock texture ugly & to much visible in mappers material. It would be better if you made your own cubemap & make it more subtle.

    - It would be nicer if some part of the rooftop had metal vents (on the floor level, not the meshes), grids & such. Since the playground is on the roof, it would 'cut' the floor pattern a bit & add some metal sound instead of the default one. I also suggest you set your 'phymaterial' to all your materials so it bring diversity & a more accurate feeling when you ear the footsteps.

    - Some smoke coming out from some vents would be a nice touch.

That is all that come to my mind atm

Blue sky is pretty, also find myself jumping from building to building just for the heck of it. There's a great sense of freedom and spaciness. It's just so much fun and a good variation in style making it feel fresh for UT3.

Hell yeah, this map is wonderful! Played with 10 bots and it felt pretty cool and somehow, this map has an refreshing style to other maps. I personally do really like this one, because it makes so much fun and also the entire ambient is just delicious. This map is a absolutely must for everyone! Keep it up, Remus! By the way, I also downloaded all your other maps and those are great indeed! Maps inspired by Mirror's Edge and having them in UT3, that's just beautiful!

Mapraider mirrors updated as well. Link to the old version will automatically redirect to the newest version, but here's the new link anyway:

    @Remus:

You really should consider putting the version number in your map filename (or some other indicator), especially since you're not including a readme in the archive. With two versions now named "DM-RB-NewEden.zip" there is no way to tell which is which without comparing file dates -- and even that's not reliable.

Downloaded the latest version of your map and I do like the new look of this map! Well done! Are you planning to change anything else? Or are you done with it? Just curious. You know, it would be really fabulous, when the map looks similar like in Mirror's Edge, with all it's pipes, constructions, etc., but I know, that's difficult and takes a lot of time. All I wanna say is, that this is a nice map!

Well first of all I think I might do more maps inspired from Mirror's Edge, I have a few ideas. As for more modifications to this one, perhaps...

When making the map I did have some ideas that didn't make it in, like:
-Passenger aircraft with contrails in the sky
-Recreate some of those monochromatic billboards from the game.

So, yes, maybe I will continue to tinker with it, but I'll take my time until I come up with a more polished version.

I played version 1.1 and overall, this is a really cool map! I am going to presume that nothing was "borrowed" from Mirror's Edge?

You really nailed the theme/look of the original game. The lighting was great. The game play was good for the theme, but you could have had more variety. I am thinking about the "training" stage in the game, but that was a fairly big building.

There are a couple of issue that I think could make the map better...

    1. The item/ammo/health/armor placement could use a bit more thought/variety. It looks to "copy and pasted" to me. Some areas, there are a lot of health in one little area, so spreading out the "goodies" could help.
    2. I like how you used "directional" jump pads, but I don't really like the mesh as it reminds me too much of UT (Liandri). Something more fitting would be nice. Also a small (directional) emitter would be cool as well.
    3. At times, I wish I knew if the ledge in front of me would take me to a safe place below or to me death. A color edge would be nice, but not knowing has it's "surprise factor".
    4. Ideally, having more meshes that didn't look so UTish would be nice, but I can't really fault you for that as it could take too much time (for what it's worth) to build them.

Overall though, a very nice "HOLP inspired" map that fun to play and enjoyable to look at.

I've used screenshots from the game as reference, but that's it, the textures are all made by me.

On points 1 and 2 we'll just have to agree to disagree, as I'm fine with the way they are.

    4) Making more urban/industrial themed meshes might be worth it, since I would also use them in my other art projects, not just in UT3. I've just finished taking a lot more reference screenshots from the game, so I will add more to the map, but it will take time.

    Question

So, if it's not done then shouldn't it be in the beta section?

  22. #22

    Default

    Just played,
I'm must say this map is really fun to play, very "fresh" compare to other maps around
The place is single, lighting and deco stuffs are well made.
I'm surprise of the average fps inside, good job on this part too.

I would just work a bit on the item placement/layout, it's quite easy to collect the belt and 2 other armors in a quick run, and the weapons areas are quite the same, a bit boring but especially I think it would be a good idea to distinguish the different areas with changing the red colored wall by other one according to the weapons... just an idea

    keep it up !

    Really Nice clean map-

    Great work as usual.
{Breaking Glass and tiles that crack on impact [jumppad landing areas] would be cool - but i see this is final and already sweet.

"So, if it's not done then shouldn't it be in the beta section?"

I think it's done, especially since there's no real bugs or anything, just he may decide to get ambitious and go back to it and add even more stuff. Kinda like a director's cut, you know?

Plus, there's been some great maps in the FINALS section where people go back and optimize them (like Orbital Decay and - I hope - Hyraxis) and everyone wins.

Cool ok, so I'll review it now

"Sunny day sweeping the clouds away" I need my sunglasses to play this one, but it's nice and refreshing to play something different for a change. Music is loud and definitely dominates the atmosphere, but it's a good tune. The wide-open gameplay on the roof tops is fun and this would make a great sniper server map (not sure if UT3 has these but UT did). Bots are good and gave me a good match with only Reaper besting me during the first match.

EDIT: actually, I think I like version 1.1 better.

While playing this map a bit more, I found some possible additions to version 1.2?

    • It doesn't seem you get credit for knocking players off the buildings that fall to their death.
    • Might be nice to have a death (when falling off buildings) similar to the original game. Maybe stop the players's camera 256 units or so before the bottom?
    • I got stuck in between the water tanks (right behind the Redeemer pickup). Took a impact hammer to get me out.

    Done.

    Fixed the fall reward issue.
Fixed collision on the water tanks, now you'll no longer get stuck.
Added falling effects: loud wind sound, camera shaking, and post process effects.

However before I upload this update would you guys check if this map works online. I got a mail from someone that says he gets this error: "Connection failed Downloading package RBDestructible failed: Error opening file"
This doesn't make any sense, since this map does not use this package.

EDIT: Nevermind, the references in the map to that package are now removed.

Yup, I can confirm this. I didn't play this map online, but when I wanted to watch a demo of this map, I got a message, that this package "RBDestructible" was missing. Weird somehow... Hope this helps.

FYI: The new version has also been mirrored on Mapraider's three mirrors. The old links will still all work and automatically direct you to the latest version, but you can go directly to v1.2 at the following link:

... Haven't been as quick to mirror lately because I'm swamped with getting Mapraider 2.0 ready for launch
