Default Dark Water Game Studios, Recruiting for Gore Toon Still! NEED ENVIRO Concept Artist

Check out our You tube channel here. - http://www.youtube.com/user/DWGameStudios
Head on over to the forums, site will be up very soon. - http://forums.darkwatergamestudio.com/

Head over to Moddb and check us out! http://www.moddb.com/games/gore-toon/

    Gore Toon
Story: Stories are for RPGS, this is an FPS fool!
    Features:
    *Guns (DUH)
    *Dodge Abilities
    *Explosives
    *Interacting Environment
    *16v16 Multiplayer
Gore Toon: Gore Toon is a fps, (First Person Shooter.) The idea of the game is to be low graphic, as cartoons, but a catchy art style, but this style will allow this game to run on low performance computers. GORE is the main factor of this game, there is blood, blood and some more blood.
How it plays: Gore Toon, plays as a normal fps, but there is several different maps to choose from! All of them offering something different.
Game Types: Death match, Team deathmatch, CTF, and monkey in the middle.

Death Match – Free for all shoot em up, first to the set score wins.

Team Death Match – Same as above but on teams!

Monkey in the Middle – This is a 3 player game mode, 1 person will be help in place in the middle, one person will be placed on each side of this person. One of the people on the side will start out with a grenade, you must throw it to the other side without the person in the middle getting it. If they get it, and you’re the one who through it, you will then be it. The person in the middle will have a higher jump, and speed for an advantage at getting the grenade.

Weapons: Here is where we plan on making the big point of the game; we want you to have versatile arsenal at your disposal, from melee weapons, to mini nukes.
Who do we play as? There will be 6 different characters to choose from. Each will have its own strong point. For instance one character will be better with explosives than another, therefor if that fits your play style more you would play as this character.
    Classes:
Engineer – Does more damage with melee weapons, also has more ammo, but shoots slower.
Sharpshooter – The Sharpshooter is what you call a marine core sniper, in the real world of course.
Brute – The brute of course is what he sounds like, he takes more damage and can beat you down in almost 1 hit with a melee weapon, or his fist.
Gunner – The gunner is more accurate with machine guns and suffers less recoil than others.
Juggernaut – The Juggernaut is good with explosives, and also takes less damage from them as well.
Naturalist – All around normal class, no weaknesses, no strengths, for casual players.

Hey interested in helping out as concept artist. So if you want, check out some of my work here.
    Portfolio
    or my DA here.
    Deviant Art Page

I can draw basically anything in just about any style you throw at me. Given just a little bit of art direction. My specialty is character design.

*I'm not sure if I'm really up for actually committing though, because I'm really busy with school and all, but I can help off the side if I have the time lol. PM me if you're interested.

If you don't mind me giving some criticism, here I go.

Your environments right now seem way too static for a "cartoony" style. Right now, except for the overkill blood, it seems more like realism lite.

Take one of my assets as an example: http://piratesadventure.deviantart.c...F27580592&qo=9
As you can see, things are crooked, details are exegarated, nothing really feels linear. That is what makes it cartoonesque; nothing straight, with a playful feel.

I have to add that I made the same mistake at first as well; making everything too straight. I lost quite a bit of time correcting those mistakes too, so if you are really going for a cartoon style, it is better to first research your artstyle a bit more indepth.

Thanks for the hints, but to be honest, we are going for the SET cartoony feel, i mean yeh urs does give a very high cartoony feel, but at the same time is almost 4k polys, we are going for LOW POLY for this game to run on low performance computers, and the art style isnt really what this games about, the game is going to be just catchy and fun to play, rather the art is "The Cartoony Style" i mean whos to say all games have to have the same cartoony look if you get what im saying

No, i am sorry, but you seem to be kind of young, by just how you are posting, what your asking for is almost a team leader position, but to be honest we don't really need one, sorry.

Ah, indeed, that might not have been the best example; the reason why it is 4000 polys is because it is meant as an animated model that also needs to stand out so players will recognize it.

My game is a sidescroller, so I can normally spend more attention on the details in front and just delete all the faces that the player will never see.
Since this model will be animated and I need to keep the style consistent, that was not possible for this one; hence the 4000 faces.

Anyway, cartoon style can be done with pretty much any polycount really. If you are interested, take a look at the Jak & Daxter games for the PS2. That is a really good example of quality low poly cartoon work. I will not say that graphics are everything (since I am rather gameplay oriented myself), but do not make the mistake of underestimating it. It won't break you game, but it can do a whole lot to make it feel better.

Yeh i completly agree with you on the game oriented side, but graphics do play a roll, which the blood was going to be the substitute for the graphics if you know what i mean. Like i said tho, im sure out of those screens you saw, i will re-do some of those models and re-do the textures so they aren't so plain. and the Jax and Daxter game i did take a look at that actually before beginning the project Thanks for your help tho!

Just one thing about the video,

I think you should change the walls material, it looks funky when you look at it.

Other than that, keep up the good work!

    Looking forward to more updates.

I'll keep my eye on this one.
