Smile Please Epic/People Can Fly in next patch...

The game is fantastic, but I had a problem, as many people are having trouble with 16:10, I'm with 4:3, I play at 1152x864 and these edges are in the game, even in 800x600 or 1024x768 are also those edges, please include in your next patch a fix for this problems.

I don't like that either, but there is kind of a technical reason for the black edges.

Those black edges are there to keep the view at a widescreen 16:9 shape. They are supposed to be there. They don't necessarily need to be there, but their purpose is to keep all the menus and screens and HUD to stay on screen and in the correct shape.

They would have to totally remake all the menus to fit a 4:3 shape screen if it wasn't forced to stay at 16:9. So in order to avoid all the troubleshooting related to a different view through the whole game, they decided to force 16:9 shape. That's just the choice they took, I guess. Obviously the 3D world will look fine but menus and screens would be stretched out or cut short without the black edges.

They might not decide it needs changing, and if they do there is another issue:

Even if they have already started making a patch, it will still take about a month from now for it to come out.

Games For Windows Live certification for a patch can add at least 2 to 3 weeks extra, on top of even the normal time it takes to release a patch.

And the certification is that the patch doesn't break GFWL features, not that the patch is effective in fixing the game.

Also, MS charges game developers money for them do the evaluating to provide this certification--when you have to pay for programmers to make a patch, and then pay MS again for permission to patch, this highly cuts down the number of patches game makers can afford to release.

Why did they remove it? Is the whole certification thing suppose to be a secret?

Nope, it's not a secret at all, just want people to understand the process.

Not sure what you mean about removing? They can't remove GFWL from the game, it's built in.

    It's nothing but laziness.

It's easy to make the game respond properly do different aspect ratios but fixing it to 16:9 AR and letterboxing all the others is the quick and lazy way of doing when you're rushing a port.

Don't know about the Xbox, but patching on the PC is completely free.

Evaluating a patch on Games for Windows LIVE is a very similar process to Xbox LIVE.
The evaluation specifics are just PC-related.
Btw I highly doubt that - even if a patch evaluation costs something - any of these costs would hurt EA...

Oh, I wouldn't worry. Epic has boatloads of money. Not only do they sell crazy amounts of games, but they make millions off of their engine licensees.

I don't seem to have this issue of wide screen? I'm running at 2560/1600@30" dell monitor and I'm either getting 16:10 or 16:9 not sure which one. Bottom line I'm getting wide screen support, no black edges on my screen.

My brother in law uses an LED tv to play games and he doesn't have any black bars either. So it's just us PC gamers using monitors that get ****ed over, good job epic, **** you.

Very, very true. But how much of that money do you think they will feel like dedicating to making a proper PC port of a completely new and as yet unproven game franchise?

The only way this could happen is if your video card drivers, or maybe your monitor itself, is stretching out a 16:9 resolution into a 16:10 shape.

(Also, technically it's not an "issue" in the sense of how you used the term. It's working like it was intended to. It's just that people with non 16:9 monitors have a pretty valid reason for disliking it.)

You mean the GFWL stuff thats already totally broken?

Seriously GFWL is utter fail just ditch it and make everyone happy.

No waits for patches, no being unable to play because GFWL wont start or you can't login because they changed the privacy policy and their client doesn't deal with that scenario.
