Thread: Can't save game

I've never had ANY problems with GfWL until I installed Bulletstorm (bear in mind that I have over a dozen such games installed) and then I suspect the real culprit is the PhysX error, another application I've never had issues with until this game. My other GfWL games are still working as they should so, logically, there can't be anything wrong with the installation otherwise all the other games wouldn't work either, right?

Well done to People Can Fly for managing to cock up not one but two programs which until now had been working flawlessly.

I posted the error message earlier. The Event log error points to two files being the problem, namely XLive.dll and Msidcrl40.dll. The former is part of GfWL and the correct and most current version as far as I know. The latter is part of the Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant, which I'm assuming was installed as part of Windows Essentials Live 2011, which I've been using since late last year with no issues.

Only Bulletstorm complains about those files; other GfWL games such as Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 for example do not show this error.

    Same here.

Nice that the Epic Community Manager popped into the 16:10 aspect ratio thread to confirm they are investigating that issue but ignored something that, for us anyway, is far, far more annoying since we cannot play the game without losing our progress!!!!!

Someone over on the Bulletstorm forum, who initially had problems getting GfWL to work but finally got it to with Steam, is supposed to be posting the PhysX and other DLLs up later so I can check if there's a decrepancy between the files on the retail disc and the ones Steam uses. It may amount to nothing but at least I feel like I'm doing something (are the developers I wonder?).

Contacted EA support and so far all I've gotten back is to install GFWL and DirectX. Thanks EA.

Are there any updates on this? EA's stopped responding to e-mails and today was my last opportunity to attempt a return.

Apparently a user over at the Bulletstorm Forums came up with a dead-simple solution that works. I haven't tried it yet, but supposedly it's working for lots of people:

    RENAME:
    c:\windows\syswow64\nxcooking.dll to nxcooking.dll.old

    or RENAME
    c:\windows\system32\nxcooking.dll to nxcooking.dll.old

(May have to re-Validate files in STEAM)

    Thanks to User: EPIC*****

Give it a try and let us know if it works.

    Works! Thanks!
One note, I had to put the original Physxloader.dll that installed with the game back in place to make it work.

I have this issue too, retail version, Windows Vista 64, had PhysX issue, got it to launch.

No nxcooking.dll on my computer at all.

I can't uninstall the game, as the uninstaller freezes when I hit remove.

Also how do I uninstall Windows Live, not on my program list.

EPIC is too busy working on their next big console game. Stop being annoying and buy an xbox like you're supposed to.

So what's the verdict? I purchased this through G4WL and picked up the DLC at the same time. I figured I'd download it overnight and be playing in the morning.

But because I can't access the G4WL overlay in game I can't register my game or play any of the DLC. I'm pretty much thinking I should call up MS and get a refund, this game is entirely broken. I don't have the nkcooking.dll so that's not a fix for me.

I manually updated my game with the patch another user put up here. Still no go. Seriously the games been out since March and this issue has seemingly been going on that long? You release DLC but not a fix for this issue? I really want to register my damn game so I can

    A)Get achievements
B)Play the DLC I paid for
    C)Play multiplayer

Without G4WL overlay working the game is essentially useless.
