    omg $100 a year ..

Mark Rein has twittered before that it would eventually happen, but that it's not something in the immediate future.

yes, 100$ a year ^^ it's for that there is a "war" between dev & apple (this and the obligation to have a MAC to instal the SDK...)

I hope it will release in the year 2011 (because in 2012 it will be too late: we're all gonna die! x) )

Really? a war between people who don't want to buy the sdk to develop on the platform they want to develop on?

Yeah, what's Microsoft charge for that sort of thing these days? ... hmm.. looks like $700 to $12000 a year right now. $100 a year is chump change for official developer blessing for a platform.

Yes, ofc, Android has no developer sdk access charge blah blah .. there's also little to no official developer support other than the manual.

if it makes you feel better, android apps tend to make a lot less money that Iphone apps.

I work as a mobile developer in my day job. Had the chance to work on Blackberry, Android, plain J2ME, and Iphone... ordered by experience from most to least.

I think that Android is a pleasant environment to develop on, leaving everything aside, they have lots of good docs increasing every day and the people working developing Android at Google for android are very responsive and helpfull, I cannot say the same from Apple´s iOS developers...
Again, I know its not because of the developer´s personality in every case, but a company police perhaps.

Speaking about dev rates/fees is absurd here, if you work and intend to make money off developing for one of this platforms, 100$ shouldnt even tickle you, there are many other things to consider when thinking about the rentability of the platform and those are things that affect much bigger amounts of what would end in your pocket in the end.
(sorry if my english sounds awkward)

Cheers and hope Android support comes sooner than later =D.

    Archos? Really?

    http://www.archos.com/products/ta/ar...try=us&lang=en

Their top of the line piece of equipment is barely powerful enough to run UDK, but you'd have to add a large external storage to it to be able to load any UDK anything into it.

All the stuff I've -seen- from Archos are Android netbooks or "tablets" that aren't even as powerful as computers from 12 years ago.

@romrom22: Try to use the quote tag, its easier on the eyes =) or @nsx_nawe at least :P

@Blade[UG]: Yeah perhaps Archos is not the best android hardware youll see out there, but hey, if its a bit over the iPhone4 or iPod4G hardware, it should be able to run it nicely, even then i know there´s a lot other things
    - Android runs everything on the dalvik vm but then again you have the NDK that gives you access to code "native" apps in C or C++, it still runs on the vm but there´s a performance increase, and now there´s the new "RenderScript" API that gives you something similar to CUDA and 3D hardware accelerated rendering....

    - The worst problem of the Android platform is hardware fragmentation.. and I say it from experience, its a nightmare that consumes a lot of development time, from screensize, resolution, memory and cheap low performance processors on some devices... also custom firmware by different carriers, or those carriers locking their devices to old versions of Android...

I think the only way to get around this with UDK is... like in Dungeon Defenders (Hi Blade :]), you have a minimum system requirements and make sure youre app performs well on it.

Yeah, but not all Android phones with the minimum requirements work like they should.

Although at some point, all the Android phones that will be available will more than meet the requirements so it's not an issue that will be there for long.

I'm not so sure about that, look at the $100 tablet market that has just suddenly opened up and gone bananas at retail .. seeing a tablet with specs less than a desktop computer from 8-10 years ago is just .. gross. Hopefully the bottom end of the market will either go away or start getting some real hardware rapidly.

i hope android support will come. its so much easier to develop and specially test things on an android phone. just plug the usb and you can install things...

plus, just because i have an android phone and not an iphone... and i guess i am not the only one

It will come eventually, that's for sure, and most likely they'll announce a bit before they update like they did with the iOS update

Since news from gamasutra in april there are no more news on this from epic. I'm (also) curious if epic is working on android port of udk and in what timeframe can we expect to see the release?

There's no other news so there's no point in asking in the forum
