Map - Team Deathmatch (PC/PS3) DM-Cipe [PC and PS3] [HOLP]

    Info:
    Title: DM-Cipe

    Author: Scott "Cr4zy" Coxhead

    Website: http://www.cr4zyb4st4rd.co.uk

    Version: Final

    Credits:
    Readme in PC download

    Changelist:
    In PC download

    Description:
Cipe brings hardcore oldskool gameplay and looks in the form on an ancient castle set in a lava covered planet. Constructed from 8345 brushes, and endless hours of work. Sporting custom meshes, textures, sounds and more to make it unique.

Originally designed for competitive 4v4 games, and tested thoroughly by such players the map takes player counts from 3v3 to 6v6 nicely. However that doesn't mean it's not for casual players at all.

    Story:
To some, a Molten world may seem like a place to be avoided, but it was once a place that many called home.
What was once a rich, healthy, and sustainable world, was devastated when attacked by the Necris, who harvested the planet dry for its owns means.
Now the planet's surface is engulfed with molten lava. Only the greatest structures remain, few and far between.
The most epic of these structures still stands tall; a castle which was once ripe with goodwill and honour, is now congested with violence and history.
It waits amid the lava so that it may succeed you too.

This map not only looks ****ing awesome, but plays great too.

The physical aesthetics of the bsp is wonderful. Things like the outter bridges and blocked off corridors make the map feel less enclosed and boxed in.

The lighting is rich and really brings this map to life. It really proves what can be done with the older version of UE3.

Game play wise it flows wonderfully. It has optinuities for lift jumps and wall dodges to reach areas quicker. The sheild-belt and udamage are placed in risky areas as they should be, with the udamage being above lava and the sheildbelt on a thin walkway.

Cr4zy's best map so far. Download it and enjoy it people!

just tryed it and wow: it s the best "tribute" to the unreal series that i ve seen so far
u have succed to mix the original unreal/ut99 athmo with quality visuals
i first found it quite not enough contrasted (not enough darkness to my tastes) but the contrast blue/orange-brown works here so nicely that it took the lead on my "not enough dark" feeling
the grids on the lavas are top notch
the layout is a pure kickarse and allow all thoses nice moves that makes ut so "special"
ur lil blue lamps are simple & efficient, i m bored by neons and crystals
all thoses "cracking woods" noises are a nice touch & will help a lot in 1v1....hm....1v1? oops... the map is very big for that!...
...i found me a lot "camping" around the UDamage spot, lot of shock ammos, some health vials & 25pts , the thingpads, the sniper not too far, a jumppad, a lift and a fraqn open layout to catch the bots all around
dunno why i had the feeling that a special 1v1 version of this map can be a nice bonus (just smaller & if possible around the UDamage spot)
after that "bla bla"...just three words: congratz!...five stars

edit: will install on our lil server asap

Thank you. Glad you like it.
Darkness in the lightning was a concerning factor through out my later builds. I had to get something that wasn't too dark, otherwise it became hard to see enemies. And not too light to ruin the atmosphere. I think the point it ended up at worked well, looks like you thought it did too

The lamps certainly fit the atmosphere better then a neon would have. Thanks to Sefyra for letting me use them.

Those wood noises certainly play an important part in games i've played. They would offer a great advantage in 1v1. But they also help you plan out in DM/TDM and BTA. Gotta thank DM-Rankin for the idea ofcourse.

There has always been a lot of gameplay around shock/amp. But the later versions certainly drew gameplay to other areas. I think it's also player dependant on where they like to stay and stick close to their favourite guns
Not sure about a 1v1 version, but who knows.
Thanks for putting it on your server. If you put the IP somewhere i'll gladly add it to first post

Cr4zy - you really know how to release a map. And what can I possibly say that already hasn't been said. Another amazing work of art from one of my favorite mappers... I had to force myself to quit taking screenshots of this because around every corner is another feast for the eyes.

Beautiful, atmospheric beyond belief, built with game play in mind, and plays smoothly on my crap-ass machine. It doesn't get much better.

Your evolution video is a special treat and I admit I LOL'ed when I saw the filename for the revision history file

I've added this to Mapraider's three mirrors with additional screenshots. All of the mirrors you've listed are also linked, and the videos are embedded in the page:

Thanks. I saw something similar to the video in UDK somewhere and hoped it worked for UT3. I've been told some UT3 maps have it but i've not seen any personally.
BINK is just the encoder for allowing it to work inside of UT3 and may other games. The video was put together in after effects, but it doesnt mean you can't do similar with recorded footage (I use FRAPS) and something like sony vegas or movie maker. Aslong as BINK can open it you can convert the files to a fair small size (amazingly small actually)
For example im using a 30FPS 10s long video at 512x256 it's 1.9MB or something (you can get some great quality using higher settings ofcourse). The same or just under the file size of the image I was going to use. Video isn't perfect detail but I felt it showed alot more of the map then a single image ever could.

This map has come a long way since the alpha versions and your hard work has paid off. This map has a lot of detail in it, given it's made primarily out of BSP.

The game play is top notch and the visuals support it nicely. There is a lot of color in this map, which is done nicely and adds that Unreal flavor to it.

    A definite keeper. Great work!

    Oops missed this post yday
Thank you, hope you continue to enjoy it.

The revisions this level has had is insane. It played ok initially, but thanks to people who tested and gave feedback it improved on pretty much every version on the gameplay until no more was said.

And after all the hardwork, I couldn't bare to release it without a little extra in the release threads

Thanks for the link, i'll add to the first post

Thanks, and thanks again for some of the testing you did. It certainly helped

And Unreal is a game that should always be full of colour. It adds so much to a level.

Yay new DM's are hard to find atm. cant wait to try it out
    Thanks very much.
[EDIT After first match] Nice to see a larger style map felt very relaxed in TDM4 with 8 players. (been playing 1on1 maps like that a lot lately lol) Like the layout, fun to play and has a unique sort of look which is always something i love. The contrast between the warm and cool lighting works well and the variations in it is nice. Sure it will cop a few beltings here. thanks again

Yeah, noticed that too. Flawless gameplay, nice layout and an awesome atmosphere a 'la Unreal 1

The Unreal series was always colorful (with ups (e.g. UT2004, very colorful, some say too many colors) and downs (e.g. UT3, brown, grey, black, occasionally blue and red because of team colors and... brown?) of course, that's just how I see it and I'm talking about stock maps right now->you can disagree of course).
You made my UT3 more colorful, thanks!
I really enjoy playing that map. Brings back so many memories of sitting in front of my PC in the night being scared by sudden Skaarj attacks in the Nali castle from the flyby. A nice tribute to Unreal!

Yeah Epic seem to have developed a liking to brown.

This map is brown as hell in unlit mode. Well minus the green wood and green/blue floors. But I decided that brown light's aren't very pretty :P

Truly a sweet map. Plays wonderfully, never got stuck, movements just all worked, flows well. Visually, also most excellent.

Large enough to not be boring, but small enough to not get lost.

Really like the little bits of health here and there.

Thank you for the hard work, much appreciated.

    +1

I'm really having a blast while playing this map. Just like everyone else has already said, the visuals and flow of the map are awesome. The weapon placement and powerups feel very balanced, and I have not found any issues with the map even when trying to find some. I really love the lighting and atmosphere of the map with the volcanic scenery off in the distance. This is a must have map, and one I will most likely find myself frequently playing. Thanks for another superb quality map Cr4zy!

Great map Cr4zy, the gameplay is very nice and the map looks awesome for being made out mostly with BSP. One of the finest UT 3 maps that I've ever played.

Finally got a chance to play this. Freaking awesome map! My only frustration is that I wanted to keep exploring and wanted to go through some of those blocked doors! The ambiance of the map is incredible. Great combination of visuals and sounds.

    Glad you like it.

Some of the doors were originally parts of the level that were accessible others are just visual details. I did think about adding a deemer to the bridge, but the map is imo too tight to fly it so it didn't happen.

    Thumbs up cool map!

This one has a somewhat checkerboard floor plan which fits and lava with an old skool layout. It's fun to play and has excellent flow, connectivity, weapon/item placement and layout....did I mention layout? The castle atmosphere fits and the good lighting, colors and sound effects really help to bring that out. I liked jumping for the Udamage and the bots are good. And it didn't lock up my computer.
