    UTILITY TNG transporter effect

    I created a quick test for the Star Trek: The Next Generation transporter effect. So far it looks good. You can test it here:

    I'll have to take a look on how to add it into the map and how to make objects dissapear. The effect looks really cool!

    I'm thinking about creating a sort of "Transporter pad" actor which would act as a teleporter. Should work nicely on players, not as nicely on other objects (the barrel there had nothing in the skins[] array so I had to make a new actor for it so it could fade out), but it could still work fine. Also, I have to create a good starburst/glitter overlay effect...

    But how about an arrival beam effect?

    The arrival beam is the same, just that the barrel would fade in.

    Now all we're missing is a phaser, a phaser rifle, a tricorder, a bat'leth, and the NCC-1701D crew.

    What about a blue noise animated skin effect like the shield for objects beaming out?

    Yeap, I have a few ideas in mind. For one, it seems that the effect used there is a starry field tinted blue with two layers - one going up, one going down, and with random opacity changes. It's also true for the first person view - it fades to this starry texture and then fades you out to somewhere else.

    Are you aware of the FPS game Star Trek Voyager Elite Force? That one also had both 3rd person and 1st person transporter effect, being a Star Trek game and all. Might want to check it out.

    Obviously that's not the TNG effect :P Those are quite different.

    Well true, but I don't think the transporter effect changed too much between the "TNG-era" series.

    Speaking of which, it would be nice if there was a video of all transporter effects in one. So far I haven't found one. Some of the film effects are pretty awesome, though. Then again, those might be only possible with Unreal II particle generators...

    If you still need that, I could craft something together for you. Do you mean all teleportations that are similar to the startrek ones or only ST ones?

    Now, why I actually bumped this:
    How about making this into a mutator that changes all teleportation effects into this? This would add a new tactical element as being able to see where someone is about to appear might enable someone else to look for cover or choose a certain fitting weapon. I know that it might encourage spawn-killing but otherwise if all those teleportations get a 2 second spawn protection that would get instantly disabled if the one who teleported fires any weapons this would either make it easy to spot snipers or get the teleporting player enough time to get into cover.
    On the other side, if respawning also got that effect, you would not get so easily shot by someone who just spawned in front of you because they are invincible, even if it is for a very short time. So the other player has enough time to hide/ get cover and then shoot the other one when the protection time is over.

    That would remind me of Unreal RTNP. When you fight the space marines on the wreck of the UMS-Prometheus they have a similar teleport effect iIrc. This would make UT more Unreal!

    Only ST ones, including the ones from the feature films.

    It's quite interesting how DS9 uses their own effect when they use the transporter in the station itself, and the TNG effect when things are beamed to or from a runabout.

    Is it possible to create a triggable teleporter that has the transporter effect from stargate that can also work once triggered teleport the person after a configurable time ie. teleport bot\user to destination teleporter after as set number of seconds or instantly?

    Thanks.I have 2 Stargate style maps I am busy on which requires the stargate ring teleport effect but the one map requires the rings to come up from the ground including the teleporter efftect and then beams the person and the other one the stargate rings come from above downwards incluidng the telepoter effect.I have timed the sound clip and the whole animation takes about 7\8 seconds.

    But yea, due to the lack of time (university et al.), I only visit the forum of which mod I'm working on, and at the moment it's Unreal and Unreal II, hence why I'm only active in OldUnreal at the moment.
