The only thing we gamers know about it is that it will only work on "massive multi core CPUs" (from an official statement) and that it won't be out until the next generation of consoles is out. This will take a while.. I guess a few years, maybe 5?

The only thing i can tell you is it will be awesome.
Other then that we don't have much information Sly. pretty much told you all we know.

I hope for some news in 2011, but i don't know. U_U
Mark Rein, the vice-president of Epic Games, revealed on August 18, 2005, that Unreal Engine 4 had been in development since 2003.[12] The engine targets the next generation of PC hardware and consoles after the seventh generation. The only person to work on the Unreal Engine 4 core system design up to that point was Tim Sweeney, technical director and founder of Epic Games.[13] However, at the 2006 Game Developers Conference, Tim Sweeney stated that development would not begin in earnest on the next version until some time in 2008.
Sweeney gave a speech at POPL06 (the Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages) that described aspects of how the Unreal Engine 3 worked at the time and "what we would like to write" in future. He predicted the next generation of games consoles would arrive in 2009, at which time game designers would work with CPUs that had 20 or more cores, 80 or more hardware threads, and more than a teraflop of computing power.[14]
In March 2008, Sweeney predicted that the number of developers working on Unreal Engine 4 would be ramped up to three or four engineers by the end of that year, and appeared to suggest that it would be aimed predominantly at the next generation of consoles rather than PCs: "[Unreal Engine] 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft's successor for the Xbox 360, Sony's successor for the Playstation 3 - and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs, then that also."[15] However, Rein later confirmed Unreal Engine 4 was coming to PC first, and clarified: "When Tim Sweeney was talking about Unreal Engine 4 [...] he mentioned something along the lines of it being exclusively for the next generation of consoles [...] what he meant was, it won't run on this generation of consoles."
Due to its focus on the next console generation, Michael Capps, President of Epic Games, indicated that Unreal Engine 4 should be ready around 2012.[16]
What mean this?
Next-generation of graphics, with Unreal 3? I don't understand...It’s long been argued that while Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 is a versatile videogame platform, many developers are finding it difficult to further draw an improved graphical standard from the platform. Indeed, it appears at present that only Epic Games themselves are able to continually improve upon that which has already been achieved, with the forthcoming Gears of War 3 looking to be a significant step ahead of Gears of War 2, despite both being developed with Unreal Engine 3. However, that may be about to change, as some of the most well known personalities from Epic Games have begun touting the ‘next generation’ of graphics.
First to offer comment on the upcoming reveal at this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) was Epic Games Vice President, Mark Rein. “Visit the theater in our GDC booth to see Epic's proposal of what the next generation will be, as powered by Unreal Engine 3.” Stated Rein on his personal Twitter account.
This year’s GDC takes place between February 28th and March 4th, held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The exhibits run from March 2nd, which is presumably when Epic Games will unveil their new project, given the confirmation from Gears of War’s lead designer Cliff Bleszinski that the reveal will actually be at Epic Games’ show floor booth.
“To reiterate - our GDC booth will show Epic's proposal of what the next generation will be.” Offered Bleszinski on his personal Twitter account, continuing: “Graphics aren't good enough yet, dammit.”
We’re sure many would agree with you, Cliff, and will be eagerly looking forward to Epic Games’ reveal early next month. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on Unreal Engine 3, and other developments from Epic Games.
Unreal Engine 4 will be released for making games on the NEW consoles (720 and PS4). If we're lucky it will launch 1.5 to 2 years before the consoles go on sale so the developers can have a shot at making an Unreal 4 launch game.
When Epic started developing Unreal 4, they were right to believe that the new consoles would launch in 2009, since judging by the life span of the previous consoles, that was a fair guess... But we had a recession, game companies started getting way more corporate, layoffs and shutdowns were happening left and right. With so much invested in Unreal 3 already, and no money or incentive to start over again on a new platform (as in if the consoles really did launch in 2009) it makes sense that we haven't seen anything for Unreal 4 yet.
It's still early anyway... But I would love to see even just a screenshot of what a game would look like in UE4.
Found this on Kotaku today...

Looks really neat! But hopefully games will become more colorful with the next generation of the UE...
Seriously, it's a bit weird that everything has to be dark these days. Back then around the time of the NES you took a look at a game and said something like "WOW! This game has so many colors at the same time! How did they do that!? This is pretty impressive!", today you're like "...wow... 64bit and the only thing you see is grey, black and brown... why are they trying to hide the good graphics by making everything appear dark?".
Or at least that's how I see it. *still hoping for more colors in games nowadays*

I think we are finding the limitiations of mega and giga-speed computing, the wavelength of the digital signal is down to inches and getting multi-devices to sync up is getting critical. Multi-core and broadening the processing spread is the only answer unless you reduce the PC components more.
The problem with the consoles is to stick with the old tech, as the PC today is lightning years ahead. And to mount the individual companies competition onto each other.
Reduction of component size, half the size of the PC or more even with replaceable components as we do today is what I would see. Point is with the explosion of hand helds, today's tech could fit in the futures palm of the hand.
Already old PC games have been ported to handhelds.
But everytime we push the handheld and console the PC still flings light years ahead no matter what we do. The console makers keep pushing their proprietariness ignoreing the technical push on hand.
At this time we are stuck on XBox 360, Wii, PS3, how old tech are these now?
I do still keep finding new PC games being made so the gamers are still out there on the PC.
Home page on hold, stay tuned

I heard even when the next gen consoles are out, they won't announce UE4 right away because of UE3's longevity. It's gonna be a pretty long wait.
Not so long, i hope...

All of the eye candy in the world won't make a game a good game if it is consolized and if the game play just isn't very good.
I agree with you almost fully on that statement. Particuarly the point about eye candy not adding up to a good game. The second half of that statement may not be so true. I know why you say that, and I agree with you about the game in question overall. Here is my thing. Let's take the PS3 for example. You can use a Keyboard and Mouse on that game, and the functionality is not too far removed from being a glorified PC. With that said, that game I'm pretty sure we're both talking about was even worse on the PS3 on its initial release. I have not checked on it since then. All I'm saying is that I myself am not a diehard PC gamer per se, but when it comes to shooters, I am diehard about playing on a PC. Apparently you can even run a dedicated server for a PS3 game on the PC, which is pretty cool. Another aspect is, despite popular belief in this community, console players are actually quite skilled gamers. I dare say they may be better than PC players when it comes to pure talent. They tend to end up doing just as amazing things, and possibly more amazing things. Anyways I guess my point to all of this is that the whole "consoleized" thing to me is a little wishy washy. The only aspect of that game I think we can say for certain was consoley was the menus, and that was something that could have been different per platform very easily. The gameplay wasn't too far from the orignal UT, yet it just lacked the fun factor of UT and UT2004. Something was missing. Maybe it's the huge blobby charaters, or the ridiculous story. Maybe it was the absence of Cliffy on the title. I think they can develop a game that is the same on both platforms without being too "consolized." Playing UT3 on the console feels like a PC game really. So it's all the perspective you have. I was always of the opinion that UT3 took about 5 steps back in time in terms of gameplay. We don't need a clone of UT or UT2004, or any other game to date. We need a game that has some new things in there, and pushes the series forward even further. I believe that to be what was great about UT and UT2004. UT pushed shooters into an area they had not really gone to before, and UT2004 improved on that formula, and up'd the anty a good bit. I have this sneaking suspicon the next UT title will be the best to date because of all the mistakes in the past. I also think it will be the same game on both platforms, and play equally well on each. That may be overly optimistic, but maybe they're taking their time with it, and really producing something of high quality that will last for many years.

wut?
I hope this and agree on most (if not all) of what you said (what concerns consolized I think that they made it slower to make it easier for console players... just my suggestion but tbh I don't really know why, but UT3 feels slow compared to UT99 and 2k4), oh and FewPosts: You get a cookie for this nice motivational speech
But don't let this guy get it!
I like UT3 though.

I am very glad to see that the engine will be developed for PC's then consoles.. it will be better that way, in a post i just made, i think they should (if possable) run the engine with low level GPU programming, If its too hard.. DirectX can be used for everything else but GPU.. Then the gaming would be amazing, UE4 would be the best... Revolutionize!
