Default Render Texture Target w/ found model

    Hello!

I am trying to use the data from a 2d scene capture actor (I believe that's what it's called) as a skin for part of a model. I have the system working but without a proper model. Currently, I am still rendering my texture to a BSP brush surface.

I have downloaded a model of a laptop in 3ds max format. Is there some way I can skin it so that the screen is free to display a material separate from the rest of the model?

Alternatively, should I just separate the screen from the rest of the laptop? This way, I can skin the laptop screen as one model and skin the laptop itself otherwise.

Is the first option even possible? If so, what is the process and is it more ideal?

To have different materials on the same mesh you need a multi-sub material on it, then when it's exported to UDK there will be two material slots in it. This is useful for the type of situation you are talking about where you say want the screen to glow/flash/move. You can also do it with a mask in the material.
