    Arrow Next UT

I have seen a video(don't remind were) of an interview with Epic's leader, and in the video, he said that the next UT would take a long time to come out, after the new XBox is released, also he said that because the next UT would take a lot of time to come out, the comunity could make the next UT, since they have UDK.

So here I am giving this idea to all you guys, also that way the comunity woul have the game they want xD

Somewhere in the license terms they mention that you are not allowed to make any games related to the Unreal series with the UDK.

Actually you could have thought of such a thing yourself, same as that Epic probably won't let you use the GoW license.

    I don't want a new UT anyway, UT2k4 is all I need.

    Could be Mike Capps.

There's no way they said something against their own EULA. You heard wrong.

Don't worry, half this community had the same idea way before you made this thread.

If they do plan to do another I would guess it would be on the next iteration of the engine for the next generation of consoles.

Yet while many people here liked UT3, it didn't perform very well which is surprising really, considering all the stuff that was put into it. That may make them reconsider another game, but then again, it was only one game.

If they said that, they meant you could make another game that is what you want from UT, not make your own Unreal Tournament game.

I led a project to remake UT a long time ago and had the idea to bring it to UDK:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRRhcQ_ZmS4

I contacted Epic, and first spoke to Tim Sweeney and then Jay Wilbur. I had a long discussion with Jay about the legality of it, and he said basically that while they really thought it would be great, they just could not legally let anyone do that, or anything carrying the Unreal name - even if it was free as it would be like giving up their IP. This has even been covered in another thread.

I think the UDK being released is just one huge feature beta/bug test for building the next UT with a better engine though...
Violence isn't the answer, it's the question.

The engine was never an issue. Great games have been built on every version of the engine.

    You can't 'mod' UDK.

This idea is ancient, often talked about, never done. Heck, it's why I made my grapple, I always envisioned a simple CTF UT-like game with a grapple instead of a translocator. Problem is I had to learn how to do all of this first, which has taken the better part of a year to produce anything of decent quality.

I still think it would be really fun, but its an intensive learning curve to learn all of this and takes many, many people. Hats off to anyone who releases anything, it's a lot harder than you may think to produce your own code, your own custom assets, etc. There's nothing preventing anyone from making another UT-like game, other than time, talent, and dedication... oh wait those are pretty hard to come by

As far as I know, there's no reason why you can't just enhance the existing UDK stuff, build your own set of maps, and call it something.

Didn't say it was a GOOD idea :P

Nexuiz is basically UT04 implemented on the Quake 3 engine. Talk about things that make you go "ugh!"...

whats the benefit on making the next UT? If you put all that work into making a game better than the previous and updated to be new, game testing it all along to make sure the polish and balance is there... what benefit to you get from making it UT vs your completely own idea of a fps? The benefit is name recognition and branding, which Epic paid more and everyone on this forums lifetime salary to build (probably not THAT much but you get the idea). Makes sense that they would say no to anything anyone made relating to it, no?

Being inspired by UT is not a problem as we all are. Real League! Woot! hahah

besides I'm too busy making Team Fortress 3!

Few benefits actually, but only if initially it was simple port of UT3 into UDK. All complainers could try to "fix it", UT modding scene would not die. And there is chance that we could get some playable multiplayer shooter.

Nowadays there is big vacuum on entry level and in middle, either you have time and dedication to make whole game or you move elsewhere. No room for casual people that like to make one or two maps per year and not worry about making meshes or coding.

UDK is not easy engine to master, but before you could make your first map, publish it and get criticism or constructive opinions day after. Now we do not have Unreal elementary school.
