I plan on living here, at least part-time.

I haven't done anything in a professional capacity yet, but do have a couple homes in progress (for myself), and have a project coming up that involves a commercial space.

My main focus in UDK is still on the game side, but I studied architecture and have always enjoyed building, so I've been having a great time doing this, too.

    Hello!

Well, if I ever get permission to SHOW the stuff we've done in the UDK, i'm sure it would be a big hit. Unfortunately, it's all top-secrety kinda stuff. One day, I'll get something that's not so secret to post here.

Our company does a lot of architecture engineering and construction viz work and we're moving heavily to real-time and the UDK because it's awesome. Here's our website, you can see the kinds of thing we've done in non-real-time there:

interesting new subforum. I just recently got out of the archvis business, but I've certainly bumped around a few architecture ideas in my head for the future.

    Default Hello

    Hi

I am an architecture student researching the use of UDK for visualization + as a tool in the design process (ie multiplayer playtesting of designs, context analysis, etc).

I am starting to learn UDK literally today. I look forward to seeing examples of architectural applications for UDK.

    Cheers,
    Matt

    G'day.
I work for an Architectural company that specialize in commercial staircases and I've been introducing them to Unreal and the potential it might have to create virtual reviews/walkthroughs (or walkupsanddowns may be a better term in this case) for clients of the designs before they are built. They are keen but there are no big plans atm, so I have just started to do some tests...

    Cheers

    Hi, I'm Marc Weston.
I've been working long term on a personal project to bring to (3D) life an old theatre that was demolished in my home town in 1991. As a kid I loved the place, and a few years ago a friend and I were talking about it when my eldest son asked what we were talking about. I thought it would be great if he could see it as I saw it. So I started researching, digging up any and all information and began building it from the ground up in 3DSMAX. When I discovered UDK I thought my dreams had come true. I could now turn my model into a walkthrough. I'm no architect, I'm no programmer and I work full time, as well as help my wife raise our seven children. My time is limited and the learning curve is steep, but each day I get a little closer to my goal. Any pointers on how to create a better walkthrough would be appreciated.

I'm interested to see how this develops. As a former drafter, I can tell you that there are easier to use programs for making "simple" projects, like houses. But as for super structures and roadways, I can see how Unreal can fill a gap in the current technology. The only thing limiting this technology is the lack of knowledge among professionals, which I’m sure Epic is trying to change. As I said earlier, I’m really interested in how this progresses.

Hi, I'm Vitorio, and I'm neither an architect nor 3D artist of any sort.

Eleven years ago, I ran "Unrealty," an architectural visualization product and design group using the first Unreal engine.

We licensed our custom UnrealEngine1 editor to firms doing visualization, and did projects ourselves. As a business, it was difficult to get traction (as at least one other poster here has found), but by the time we closed up shop, I felt I had a good idea as to what did and didn't work, and I consulted briefly for a couple of other startups that wanted to try similar things.

HKS is the only firm I know that has found lasting success, first with UnrealEngine2, and later with their own license of UnrealEngine3, but they're also a full service architecture firm, not a dedicated visualization studio.

I'll probably just lurk here, but wanted to introduce myself in case my experience might still be relevant.

I use it for backgrounds and such.
Not UDK because I am not animating a 1000 studs in Matinee.

    Hi Guys and Girls,

I have been lurking on the forums for a month or so now. I am a Architecture Masters student in the UK who is investigating the use of UDK to create real time rendered environments. I've had lots of experience with Sketchup and some in 3DS Max, which I will be using for the main modelling tasks.

I'm hoping to learn how efficient it is to use this type of technology and also investigate the engines capabilities to create custom items such as interactive game menus etc. My end project will be a walk through of my architecture school that can be used by prospective students before they ever visit, with the thought they could install the package from a CD or ideally run from online (like Quake Live).

It's going to be a steep learning curve!

    Ben

    Hi guys

i´m new to udk...start to use it a month ago.
and the particular reason is the possibilities with architecture.

for gaming there is too much people better and experienced..lol

hope this subforum gets bigger, greater, and full os tips, tricks and tutorials soon.

    Hi all,
Currently a senior 3D artist for a small Serious Games developer - we make naval training Simulators using our own in .house engine

    But..

The time for games technology to cross over into Visualisation has finally come and I think there is going to be demand for skilled realtime 3d artists in the visualisation industry and I feel like a change and becoming my own boss.

So just prepping myself up and getting some demos together, and learning all this new architectural stuff.

Hopefully as long as we can optimise the production pipelines to make realtime visuals make economic sense to customers we are all gonna be onto a winner

failing that learning UDK in depth is another string in the employment bow anyway and a road to better things.

Look forward to seeing peoples work

    Also new to the forums.

I am a design student interested in seeing what everyone is using the UDK for.

Looking forward to playing with the editor.

    Another newbie here.
Also interested in using the editor for some 3d design work.
There is just so much to learn, but the results from people really do look great.
