Hello one and all! Welcome to “The Soul Killer Collection” a thread created to hold all the information about my Fanfic series.

I’ve always enjoyed creating characters and writing stories about them, it’s just something I do. Ranging from the totally bizarre to fan stories based on other universes. Gears of War was the first Xbox360 game I played and I was pretty much hooked on it since then.

I joined up and wrote my first Fanfic “Revival” about a young Drone being rescued by the elite Soul Killers after the light mass bombing. It actually became quite popular, and was nominated for a place in the Fanfic centrals “Notable Fanfics”

A Sequel was created, followed by a third, followed by a side story and spin off’s, I had quite a collection.

Soon, it was pointed out by user Jonesybites. (Author of Fanfic Snowblind) that it would be a good idea to put all these stories into a collection, so new readers could get all the information they need and get into the series easier.

Thanks to the support of the Fanfic writers support group, this thread has truly come to life, now all The Soul Killer stuff is presented neatly here. Big shout out to you guys.

Read on and I hope you enjoy!

“Have you ever been to a Soul Killer cleanup sight? What they’ve done to Gears, one cleanup sight is probably enough to demoralise the whole army!”

The “Soul Killers” are the elite soldiers of The Queen. Made up of the strongest, most cunning and in some cases, most scary Locust of the Horde. One Soul Killer is more than a match for Cog forces. The very name can send a terrified shiver down the spine of ever the toughest Cog veteran.

The rank was originally given to just one Locust, who’d proven to outdo others in the field of combat. RAAM spent a short time as a Soul Killer, leading Locust against the Lambent, before he ascended into the rank of General.

Though one year after E-Day, a young Theron, named Hakar, was offered the honoured position of Soul Killer, after he and his crew of fellow Therons easily outwitted a large number of Cog forces and helped the Locust destroy a Cog command centre. Hakar happily accepted, but he felt he worked better with a team, and requested that others may join him. It was agreed, thus, The Soul Killers were officially formed.

Soul Killer armour is easily recognizable, it somewhat resembles traditional Theron Guard armour, though it is entirely black, save for the odd patch of Crimson red around the shoulders. The Soul Killer Helmet adorns a “V” symbol in the middle.

If there is ever a mission The Queen feels the normal soldiers of the horde cannot handle, she will send The Soul Killers. These soldiers live up to their elite status, as they have almost never failed a mission, decimating Gears and Lambent forces wherever they go. Their actions alone inspire the Horde to keep fighting, as if Locust forces see the Soul Killers on the battle field, they know they can’t lose.

Most Gears are terrified of the very words “Soul Killer” while some mask their terror with a bravado charade of tough guy, they secretly dread having to go to a location where Soul Killer activity is reported.

The Gears coined a phrase forever known as “Soul Killer Cleanup sight” this means the scene of a battle where Soul Killers utterly annihilated Gears forces, leaving various body parts and pools of blood everywhere. One cleanup sight is said to demoralise even the toughest Gear.

Soul Killers are treated with undying respect from the rest of The Locust Horde. Even the lowest Boomer or Wretch recognizes them as heroes of the Horde. Any Locust is more than happy to take orders from A Soul Killer, in fact, they see it as an honour.

Hakar leads The Soul Killers with superb efficiency. His skill and strength alone are enough to motivate the others to keep fighting. Hakar often gets advice and assistance from his second in command and most trusted friend Onwa. Some say that they really have joint leadership, with Hakar leading the charge while Onwa plans the tactics. Though most agree that Hakar is the true leader.

A tradition the Soul Killers follow is that they all carry a “tag” in the form of the Locust Emblem as a necklace, though they do not wear it, but rather keep it stashed in their armour. Should a Soul Killer die, Hakar will take the tag and place it around the deceased’s knife. The knife and tag are placed onto a burial sight, where they are said to be “put to rest” and remembered.

As the series grew, a large cast of characters joined the fray. Here are both The Soul Killers themselves, followed by the supporting cast.

    Hakar
    Pic coming soon?
    Introduced: Revival
Bio: There are few creatures of the hollow that can strike fear into the hearts of both Humans and Locust, Hakar is prime example of one of them. Hakar is and has always been the leader of the Soul Killers, the Elite of The Queen. He is a strong, fearless and terrifying figure on the battlefield, leading his Soul Killers to victory and slaughtering countless enemies that dare to stand in his way. When Hakar kills Cog soldiers, he certainly makes sure they feel the pain, some Locust joke that he kills them as a form of “Stress Relief”

While on the surface, Hakar may look like a savage, he isn’t all about fighting and killing. Hakar has a sense of right and wrong, he is loyal to his friends and comrades and will stick up for them, defending them from whatever is thrown at them. Hakar also deeply cares about his team, if a Soul Killer dies, Hakar will personally feel the blame should go to him and will go to whatever lengths to avenge the fallen comrade. Though Hakar can still become easily frustrated and will often snap and lose his temper at anyone around him when he turns angry. Mainly because Hakar has lost someone close to him…

Hakar has mixed opinions around the denizens of the Hollow. To some, he is the greatest hero of the Horde, to others, he’s nothing more than a bloodthirsty psychopath, hell bent on vengeance. The rest say, he’s a little bit of both…

Weapon of Choice: Hammerburst, Lancer Assault Rifle, War Blade.

    Onwa
    Pic coming soon?
    Introduced: Revival
Bio: You couldn’t ask for a more loyal and honest friend than Onwa. Acting as the 2nd in command of the Soul Killers, Onwa is Hakar's right hand man and best friend, the two are believed to have survived more battles than any other Locust in the hollow. Onwa is a clever and cunning Soul Killer who often suggests the tactics for Hakar to order. Some wonder if Onwa would prefer to lead The Soul Killers, though he seems happy as he is. However, if he feels Hakar is, in anyway, not fit to lead, Onwa won’t be afraid to assert himself and take leadership, even if Hakar doesn’t agree. Onwa isn’t afraid of Hakar, like most, as he knows how Hakar acts and thinks, and can read him like a scroll.

Onwa is known for missing his left eye, during a raid on a Cog base, Onwa attempted to save a comrades life, but failed and lost his eye to a stray bullet, this never fazed him however, thus Onwa continues to serve the Soul Killers with an iron fist.

    Weapon of Choice: Torque Bow.

    Sauvix
    Pic coming soon?
    Introduced: Revival
Bio: The long suffering medic of the Soul Killers, Sauvix isn’t what you’d call a coward or a traitor, really, he just doesn’t see the point in the Human-Locust war. Why fight a barbaric race like the humans when the Lambent are a tough enough threat as it is?

Come E-Day and beyond, while most Locust fought, Sauvix took an interest in the humans and began to study them, observing their actions, inventions and so forth, he soon found a derelict prison on the surface and converted it into a safe house, where he kept his studies and stolen Human tech. Sauvix also taught himself medical skills, should he ever find himself or anyone else with a bad injury, he‘d be able to patch up without a problem. He seemed to be able to study in peace, until he was sold out to the Theron Police by a young Rookie in the squad he was supposed to be assigned to. Sauvix found himself sentenced to life imprisonment for cowardice and fleeing.

All seemed lost until Hakar, the leader of the Soul Killers, offered him a choice, help them and be free, or stay in the cell and die. Sauvix, being smart, decided to join the Soul Killers, Even though it meant once again serving under the very Queen that called him a coward.

Sauvix himself is sarcastic, cynical and bad tempered, always making remarks and slurs about anyone. Because of how he ended up in his cell, he has a hatred of Soul Killer Neophytes or "Rookies" and will take out all of his anger and frustration out of them, as Neophytes always remind him of that one Rookie that sold him out, that and in his opinion, most Rookies are moronic. Despite this, Sauvix's intelligence and vast amount of knowledge of the surface world more than make up for it, as well as his medical skills which remain flawless, as every soldier he has treated has survived to live another day.

    Weapon of Choice: Scorcher Flamethrower.

    Taus
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Introduced: Revival
Bio: Behind that sinister smile beats the hearts of possibly the greatest marksman ever to grace the horde. Taus acts as the Soul Killers Scout and Sharpshooter, surveying territory for them and picking off enemy targets from a distance. Other than that, not much is known about him, mainly because Taus prefers to keep to himself, speaking only when spoken to, when he does talk, he speaks in a hushed, whispery tone. Taus’s skills with a Longshot Sniper Rifle are legendary, he has been known to blast Cog soldiers heads open without so much as looking down the scope, all young sniper drones wish they had his skills. However, he does not underestimate his enemies nor hunt them for sport.

Taus once suffered a bullet to the neck during the fight against "Project Saviour", the wound nearly killed him, but he managed to survive and now keeps the bandage on as a reminder never to let your guard down.

Weapon of Choice: Longshot Sniper Rifle

    Zaach
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Introduced: Revival
Bio: Zaach was once a mere drone in the Locust army, unimportant and disposable, expendable cannon fodder that could easily replaced. No one would miss him if he died.

Though all that changed after the Lightmass bomb was detonated, he found himself on the surface, alone and injured, though he was soon rescued by Hakar, leader of The Soul Killers. Hakar took Zaach back to their surface headquarters to recover from his injuries. Afterwards, he was trained to fight alongside them, under the guidance of Hakar, joining them in many strikes back against the humans. It wasn’t long before Zaach quickly excelled to the higher ranks and soon, he was a highly respected and dependable warrior. Boosting his confidence and making him feel important.

Although he is just a Drone, Zaach shows some signs of actual intelligence, he is resourceful, observant, a little bit cunning and strong willed. Though he often lets the safety of others be his main priority, rather than the objective at hand. Zaach is loyal to all of his comrades and friends, especially Hakar.

    Weapon of Choice: Hammerburst
    Krall
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Introduced: The Dead will Rise
Bio: Fast, nimble and deadly. Three choice words to describe Krall. He is often seen as an inbred or an outcast due to his strange appearance, he looks like a Theron, but his mother was a Priestess, as he seems to share Kantus features, such as the slit eyes, the longer teeth and the amazing ability to lure Rockworms out of hiding. It is because of how his mother took care of both him and another lost soul, known as Myzfit, rather than shunning them as “Outcasts”, that makes Krall highly protective of the Priestess. He sees them as sacred species that must be protected and honoured.

Krall would spend hours down in the hollow, finding the Rockworms and hunting them down, in one hunt, he could've killed enough of them to feed the Nexus for days. After defeating Lambent attackers at the gates of the Nexus, The Queen noticed his lightning fast reflexes and his nimble moves and was highly impressed, she demanded that he join her army, so Krall served as a conscript of the Soul Killers. Krall refuses to use guns in combat, as he sees melee combat as a true sign of courage, thus he goes into battle armed only with his chainsaw staff, which he uses with superb skill.

    Weapon of choice: Chainsaw Staff.
    Braahk
    Pic coming soon?
    Introduced: The Dead will Rise
Bio: On the surface, Braahk may come across as just another “dumb” Grinder and it may seem strange to have such a hulking brute as a member of the sophisticated Elite of The Queen. Though after some close calls, Braahk was Enlisted to add heavy support for the Soul Killers when things got tough. To help his chances of survival while working with them, he was given extra training, taught by Hakar and Onwa. At first he was only limited to the basic Grinder words. (Grind! For Queen!) but as Hakar and Onwa put him through his paces, he began to pick up more words. By the time his training was complete, he could string together a full sentence. (Well, full sentence by Grinder Standards)

Braahk is a giant beast of a Grinder with both the playful attitude of a youngling and the brutal strength of a Brumak. Braahk loves a good fight and will happily charge into battle with his Mulcher, which he shows great affection for and uses to mow down an entire legions of enemies with both ease and a confident smile on his face. He may not be the quickest thinker, but where he lacks in Smarts, he more than makes up for it with his sheer strength, unquestionable loyalty and unbreakable confidence

    Weapon of Choice: Mulcher
    Torgr
    Pic coming soon?
    Introduced: The Dead will Ries
Bio: Torgr isn’t exactly what you’d call “A good example of the fierce Locust Drone” in fact, he’s a rather weak specimen, a runt of his birth group. Torgr became the newest member or "Neophyte" of the Soul Killers after Taus requested that could pass down his knowledge and skills with the Longshot to another. Taus personally picked Torgr because while on the surface, he came across as weak and weedy, he thought with a little training, Torgr could become a capable fighter AND a expert sniper.

Aside from his lack of strength, Torgr is also looked down upon by other Locust because of three things, he's shy, nervous and generally unconfident, three traits hated by the Horde. Torgr has little to no confidence in himself, he’s scared of the Ground walkers and always worried he’s never ready to fight, other drones constantly called him “Spineless” because of that.

When it comes to the other Soul Killers, Torgr is quite scared of Sauvix, because of how the Medic feels towards “Neophytes” despite all this on his back, he’s loyal to Hakar and the others, especially Taus and Zaach. Torgr does feel he can overcome his problems with guidance from Taus, and Zaach because he too, was once in the same position.

One fact that he is often ridiculed for is that he believes in the stories of the "Leviathan" The sea beast that supposedly stalks the waters outside Nexus.

    Poor ickle Neophyte.

Weapon of Choice: Longshot Sniper Rifle, Gnasher Shotgun.
    Nokada
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Introduced: Survival
Bio: Nokada is a thinker, a philosopher, a scholar and a preacher. A Locust Priestess, Nokada was raised by those who stood by T’Chark’s word, even though it labelled them as “Traitors” in the eyes of Queen Myrrah. By the time she was an adult, she was not only a scholar, but also had become the de-facto leader of “The Lost” a group of Kantus Monks and Priestesses that refused to submit to Myraah’s order. Nokada also lead a group to rescue the trapped Priestess Galai from Myraah’s holding cells during Operation Hollow Storm. She and a few lucky survivors fled to the surface and began to survive in a home made dug out.

Nokada herself is wisest of The Lost, acting as the peacekeeper and main speaker, she is mostly calm, but cannot stand those who think T’Chark is a lie. Nokada is also a great painter, she spends her time painting pictures of her goddess to help her get through difficult times.

Weapon of Choice: Gorgon SMG, Ink Grenade.

    Ithak
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Introduced: Survival
Bio: Ithak wouldn’t be a very good role model for The Priestess, she’s rude, rowdy and rebellious. An odd concoction of a religious follower yet a total adrenaline junkie. Unlike Nokada and Ara, who are quite tactful and forgiving, Ithak speaks her mind and isn’t afraid to criticise or insult whoever she’s talking about, which often leads to Nokada having to come in and calm the situation.

While none of the Lost are great fans of Queen Myrrah, Ithak absolutely HATES her, she’d give anything to see Myrrah dethroned and killed. Ithak personally believes The Queen betrayed The Locust and has lead them to their downfall, a fact that some Locust are starting to wake up to.

Despite her biting attitude, and the fact that Ithak can be quite Dim at times, she’s still a great fighter and remains loyal to Nokada, even if the two don’t always agree. Ithak has also taken a great liking to Sauvix, who actually shares the feeling.

    Weapon of Choice: Anything.

    Ara
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Introduced: Survival
Bio: Ara is the classic “Quiet one” of The Lost, mostly hanging back while Nokada and Ithak do all the talking. Ara is the youngest and possibly the most friendly of the three, quite open and willing to befriend anyone who will be friendly back. Ara makes herself different to Nokada and Ithak with her clothing, preferring a headband over the crown helmet, longer leggings and full torso armour.

Ara also hates Queen Myrrah, but she doesn’t quite share the same malice or thuggery of Ithak, if she wants to badmouth the Queen, she prefers to let the others do that.

Aside from that, Ara has a responsibility on her shoulders. She must survive herself while at the same time, take care of her nephew. A Kantus youngling called Chex, who’s mother was killed while The Lost were scavenging.

Weapon of Choice: Hammerburst, Longshot, Scythe.
    The Reavers:
    Pic coming soon?
Introduced: Revival (1st Reaver) The Dead will Rise (2nd Reaver)
Bio:To help them get from mission to mission, The Soul Killers have two, specially bred Reavers just for them. Both Reavers are trained to take the Elite to wherever they need to go, once The Soul Killers are dropped off, The Reavers are trained to fly away and hide, only appearing when Onwa has called them out.

The first Reaver is seen as Onwa’s “Pet” as Onwa, the trained Reaver pilot, sticks with it most of the time. It has quite a joyful, playful attitude and sticks by Onwa at all times, though it has been known to go to Zaach when it wants feeding. This Reaver is slightly larger than normal breeds, able to carry four our five soldiers, as opposed to two.

The second was bred for when Braahk was enlisted, this Reaver is naturally much bigger and stronger than any other, as it needs to be able to carry the Grinder’s weight. Aside from that, it has a more relaxed and calmer personality to it’s younger “Sibling”

    Supporting Characters
Of course, where there be main characters, there be supporting characters!

    T'Chark
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Introduced: Ascension of the Reaper
Bio: T’Chark is said to be the supreme deity of the Locust religion, the mother of all the worms and creator of the Trinity, along with another known as Azazel. T’Chark is a giant of a worm, with skin coloured a dark, midnight blue and having a few, jagged spike like parts on her body. It is said that whoever takes T’Chark’s blood will gain super strength and become a mighty warrior, while those who take her water will gain intelligence and wisdom, possibly even second sight.

T’Chark foresaw that if the Locust went to war with humanity, it would spell their extinction. Convinced the Horde would not listen to her, T’Chark gathered up her most loyal followers and buried herself deeper in Sera. Some believe her to be alive, others are sceptical, it is because of her departure, that the Kantus party became split.
    Brother Markon
    Introduced: The Dead will Rise
Bio: A high ranking Kantus Monk, Markon poses as the Queen's Aide-de-camp, but in reality, he is a holy and Religious Monk who still, in secret, worships the Worm Goddess T'Chark and wishes for the war to end peacefully. While he sometimes questions the Queen's ideas about the war, he never openly voiced his opinion about her. However, he has a sceptic view on her Soul Killers, seeing them as nothing more than savage blood bringers and the main reason that his master, High Priest Setnar vanished
    Priest Quaar
    Introduced: Survival
Bio: A High Priest of the Kantus sect, Priest Quaar is said to be the oldest Kantus alive. Not only that, he was also considered the smartest and wisest Kantus in the hollow, everyone went to him for advice, even high ranking members such as Skorge. It was said that he had taken “The Water of T’Chark” water passed down by the Worm Goddess herself, granting him great wisdom and second sight. He will share his wisdom and advice to those who seek it. After the flooding of the Hollow, Priest Quaar hides up in the mountains with other survivors, guarded by The Soul Killers.
    Priestess Galai
    Introduced: The Rescue
Bio: Priestess Galai was a member of an elite cult known as “T’Chark’s chosen”. A select group of monks and priestesses that could communicate with T’Chark through telepathy, and that she could use one member of the chosen as a “vessel” to talk through, allowing her to speak to her followers. They managed to avoid being hunted down as traitors by posing as “agnostic”

Galai was searching for artefacts when she and her party were ambushed by Lambent, causing her to flee to the surface. After being rescued by The Soul Killers, a deluded High Priest Skorge ordered them to communicate with T’Chark, as he thought the Riftworm’s awakening was a sign she had returned. But the chosen were rejected and began to go insane, causing Skorge to have them locked away in the Palace holding cells.

Galai was the sole survivor of the chosen, the only one not to commit suicide. Though she suffered many self harm wounds and remained unconscious in her cell. She was rescued by Nokada and the lost and taken to their hideout, where she was later moved to The Soul Killers hideout. However, T’Chark found her, and believes that now she is away from Myrrah, she can use Galai to talk to the horde…
    Garek
    Introduced: Ascension of the Reaper
Bio: If the Locust could hold an “Unluckiest Drone” contest, Garek would win it hands down. Garek was Hakar’s close friend during their training days and was rather “inferior“ when compared to his friend, leaving him often having to rely on Hakar for protection. Garek has seen and been through a lot in his time, whether it be tripping over, being bullied by Revix or even travelling through the guts of his own Goddess, Garek may or may not be mentally stable anymore. After Hakar had become a Soul Killer, Garek was left to fend on his own, something he was never good at.
    Veega
    Introduced: Ascension of the Reaper
Bio: Veega was a special breed of Berserker and the mother of Hakar. Veega was a highly unique Berserker because she had been blessed with the rarest gift for her kind… sight and intelligence. Perhaps not enough for her to speak or make her a “functioning” member of Locust society, but she could tell friend from foe apart, recognize many and still communicate through growls.

Veega was also unique in the sense in that unlike many Berserkers, who were forced into mating at the time, Veega was willing to breed with Hakar’s father. She was still kept in a cell (though nice and comfortable, still a prison cell) beneath the Palace though, as secretly, Queen Myrrah thought of her as a freak. The children she gave birth to all died moments after, traumatizing her, however, Hakar’s survival returned her spirits. Hakar would secretly go to visit her whenever he could, and Veega grew a strong desire to be with her only son.

When the Lightmass Bomb detonated, Veega was able to escape her cells and slaughter the guards. She escaped the palace and fled the Hollow. Hakar assumes her to be dead, but little does he know that she is still alive, and out there, somewhere…
    Chex
    Introduced: Survival
Bio: Chex is only a young, Kantus baby and the son of Ara’s sister, who is sadly deceased, forcing Ara take care of him. Chex remains blissfully unaware of all that is going on around him, though remains wide eyed and curious about everything. Most of the time he sleeps, though when he is awake, he likes to play with makeshift toys and enjoys stroking things. (The Reaver’s chins and Nokada’s belly being his favourites). He isn’t used to all the new members of the tribe, feeling much more secure when Ara’s around, though he has began to recognize Soul Killer Braahk.
    Shidowan
    Introduced: Seducing the Ogress
Bio: Shidowan was a well known Berserker and the mother of the Soul Killer Sauvix. She was unique among her kind for having an amazing stealth ability and showed a cunning intelligence. Many Locust had tried to breed with Shidowan, but all had failed with their lives, as Shidowan used her stealthy ability to slaughter them on her home turf, the dark catacombs. A favourable tactic of hers was to let Drones fight and kill each other first, then annihilate the survivors. However, her arrogant display was thwarted by a Theron known as Bovix, who subdued, charmed and even seduced her, allowing him to mate with her. Afterwards, she gave birth to Sauvix.
    Haulac
    Introduced: Survival
Bio: Haulac is Zaach’s old friend from the days before he was a Soul Killer. While Zaach was determined to prove himself worthy of the Locust military, Haulac wasn’t so keen on the fighting and indeed proved to his superiors that he wasn’t fighting fit. Thus Haulac was moved to the Construction Corp of the Horde, rebuilding and upgrading defences alongside other Engineers. Haulac is simple minded and not bright at best, but he’s a good friend and despite having not much fighting skill, he has managed to survive on the surface along with his “pet”, a tamed Bloodmount affectionately named Snapper
    General RAAM
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Gears of War Original Character
Bio: The Mighty General RAAM was a silent and savage Locust General, his cunning and ambitious nature allowed him to usurp through the ranks from Theron Guard, to Soul Killer, to General easily. Backed by his sheer strength, skills and intellect, RAAM was indeed a terrifying foe on the Battlefield.

Unknown to most of the Horde was that RAAM was the chosen “Mate” of the Special Berserker Veega, who gave birth to his son, the one and only Soul Killer Leader - Hakar.

RAAM chose to train his son himself, but the pair kept the relationship a secret. Although Hakar would sometimes annoy him with his recklessness, RAAM took great pride in his son and considered into a crowning moment when Queen Myrrah passed on the rank of Soul Killer to Hakar, a rank that RAAM once wore himself. (After RAAM became a General, The Soul Killer rank seemed to vanish, only for Myrrah to re-introduce it after hearing about Hakar’s bravery and actions in battle.)
    Queen Myrrah
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
    Gears of War Original Character
Bio: Queen Myrrah was the Queen of the Locust Horde during the Locust civil war against the Lambent and the Human-Locust War simultaneously. Her plan was to colonize the surface and destroy the Lambent in the Hollow. However, the Worm Goddess T’Chark warned that war with the humans would lead to their destruction, but Queen Myrrah ignored the warning and built her Locust army to fight the humans. Once war was declared, she began enforcing a “New Order” even as far as going to re-writing The Trinity of the Worms religion so that her actions would be justified. This would cause the rift in the Kantus sect, splitting them off into groups: Those Loyal to her, Neutral Agnostics and those loyal to T’Chark, which she branded as “Traitors.” The Soldiers of the Locust Horde chose to side with her, believing her words to be true.

While she lead her Genocidal campaign against the humans, The Locust treat her with undying respect and will die for her if necessary. Queen Myrrah uses her “Soul Killers” as the ace up her sleeve, sending them on missions against the humans she feels the rest of the Horde cannot handle, and much to her pleasure, they have never failed her.
    Cyron
Introduced: Revival (Unnamed) Ascension of the Reaper (Named)
Bio: Mystery has always shrouded Cyron, even the highest ranking members of the COG are confused about them. Formally “Cyron Corporation” a scientific division working for the COG who made groundbreaking research into robotics. Cyron seem to continually supply the COG with highly advanced robots to help them in their cause. Ranging from the humble repair bot to gigantic war machines, they’ve won over the COG superiors with their robots, but others aren’t so sure. Are they really siding with the COG or do they have their own agenda? What’s more, some COG Gears firmly believe Cyron get up to controversial experiments behind the COG’s back…
    Adrian Pierce
    Introduced: Revival
Bio: Lieutenant Adrian Pierce is seen as somewhat of a mystery. He is regarded as a “Link” between the Cog and their mysterious ally, Cyron. Pierce shows loyalty to both parties and often suggests that the Cog use Cyron’s creations to help the combat the Locust Horde.

Adrian Pierce was originally the “Overseer” of Project Saviour and showed fierce loyalty to Cyron. Though after The Soul Killers destroyed the project (and took Pierce’s left eye in the process, leaving him with an eye patch) Pierce began to show more trusting to Colonel Hoffman, keeping him in the loop about Chairman Prescott’s and Cyron’s “Controversial” attempts to track down The Soul Killers.
    Cyron Troopers
    Introduced: Survival
Bio: A sub division of COG soldiers, specifically working for Cyron. Cyron refer to them as a “Private Security force” but most COG Gears are smarter than that, they know Cyron have their own, private army. Just as skilled and strong as any Gear, unlike Gears, however, Cyron Troopers are soulless, monotone, almost drone like grunts that think only about the objective at hand. Their armour colour scheme being a dark, worn out silver as opposed to the turquoise blue of Gears, the eyes of the visor glowing red, rather than blue and their voices are masked with some kind of vocoder built into their helmets. Naturally, Gears are freaked out by these troops, but Colonel Hoffman, and many other high ranking COG’s, don’t mind. They get the job done.

    The Emissaries
    Introduced: Shadows of the Feared
Bio: Emissaries are the most feared and notorious creatures amongst the Lambent Horde, seen as “The Riders of Death” to the Horde, the Emissaries serve as the bodyguards to the mysterious “Overseers”. Unlike the rest of the Lambent Horde, Emissaries display intelligence, sentience and skill, acting as guides and commanders to the mutations below them. Each Emissary has it’s own power and advantage, one Emissary is bad enough, all of them together, spells doom.

    The Emissaries consist of:

Scourge: Leader and Emissary of Destruction
    Famine: Emissary of Hunger
    Rage: Emissary of Anger
    Downpour: Emissary of Fear
    Rain Maker: Emissary of Acid
    Havoc: Emissary of Chaos
    Longsword
    Introduced: Ascension of the Reaper
Bio: The longest serving warrior and thought to be the Lambent’s answer to RAAM. Longsword wore the skull of a slain enemy as a battle mask and carried a sword into battle. He was a savage enemy indeed, moving at a slow, juggernaut like pace and leading hundreds of Lambent into battle. It was thought that he was one of the main reasons the Lambent were winning.
    Rampage
    Introduced: The Rescue
Bio: Believed to be a mutated Boomer of some kind, Rampage is a powerhouse of a Lambent Warrior. Credited as one of their most destructive fighters, Rampage is driven only by his fanatical devotion to his masters “The Overseers” and will gladly crush any fool who dares to deify them. He carries explosive weaponry, though his fists and whip chains are just as good.
    Slicer
    Introduced: The Rescue
Bio: Rampage’s partner in crime, the brains of the duo. Slicer is a dangerous Lambent, he’s sneaky, cunning and can be deceptive. Unlike Rampage, who charges head first into battle, Slicer prefers to find his enemy’s weakness and exploit as much as he can. Slicer can learn enemy tactics and predict their movements, keeping him one step ahead.

Rampage’s constant fanaticism annoys Slicer quite a lot, though he learns to put up with it.

    Revival
    The First Soul Killer Story.
    Post Date: 10-08-2008 (10th August 2008)
    Chapter Count:16

Summary: The first of The Soul Killer stories, after The Lightmass Bomb has been detonated, a lowly, unimportant Locust Drone named Zaach, finds himself saved from death by a group of Locust known only as The Soul Killers, the Elite of the Horde. Giving Zaach a chance to redeem himself, the group train him to fight alongside them in their strike back against the humans. Though as he progresses, Zaach learns a dark secret about his leader, and uncovers a new, deadly threat to the horde...

    Notes:
    • While I’m happy with the Story, there are a few things that I really think I should go back and change, either I feel they didn’t come out right or I think it should be changed to suit the future stories.
    • First Appearance of Zaach, Hakar, Onwa, Sauvix and Taus.
    • The is the first Fanfic I’ve ever completed.
    • The “Deadly Threat” went through loads of different ideas before I settled on the one you read about.
    The Dead Will Rise
    The Second Story
    Post Date: 19-11-2008. (19th November 2008)
    Chapter Count: 18

Summery: Set several months after the events of "Revival". The Locust Soul Killers return, with newcomers Krall, Braahk and Torgr joining their elite unit. With the Horde now launching a strike on Jacinto itself, The Soul Killers continue their mission to destroy the Cog and claim the surface for The Queen. But with the Lambent pushing further and further towards their goal of destroying the Nexus and the Cog planning their own strike against the horde, the Soul Killers find themselves fighting their own battle... a battle for their survival.

    Notes:
    • This is my personal favourite Soul Killer story. I just felt it flowed quite nicely alongside Gears 2’s story. Plus, I grew to love everyone even more.
    • First Appearance of Krall, Braahk, Torgr, Jareek, Bohvak and Brother Markon.
    • The character of “Commander Mustlar” was a last minute addition.
    • Apparently, Braahk was voted “Best new Soul Killer”
    Ascension of the Reaper
The third Soul Killer story - A Prequel
    Post Date: 06-04-2009 (6th April 2009)
    Chapter count: 30

Summary: A story about the rise of The Soul Killers, who have always been the Queen's personal Elite. This Prequel to "Revival" covers a brief history of their leader Hakar, rising from simple, risk taking and defiant Locust youth to the feared leader of the Soul Killers. Learn about previous Soul Killers of old and how the group formed to fight the Cog and Lambent Scourge.

    Notes:

    • I kind of have mixed feelings about this one. Again, I’m pretty happy with it, though I started to get a bit “Embarrassed” about how many chapters were written (Mostly taken up by Act 3) so I kind of rushed the ending. Shame, because I couldn’t quite cover everything I wanted.
    • The contents of a “Dead will Rise” chapter was ACTUALLY turned into a Chapter for this one. “Blood and Guts” was kind of my own “Parody” of intestinal fortitude.
    • There’s too many Team Fortress 2 references to count, I guess I was kind of into it at the time.
    • Lehrak, A Soul Killer mentioned in “Revival” makes an appearance.
    • The character of Revix was a requested character.
    • I was going to parody “Road to Ruin” as well, saved that for another story.
    Butchered Grounds
    A One shot
    Chapter Count: 1
    Post Date: 08-07-2009 (8th July 2009)

Summary: In this short one shot for the project “Voices from Hell” Sauvix and Taus are stranded on the Surface. They must retreat inside a human building and take cover from Lambent Meat Puppets and Cog patrols.

    Notes:

    • Was originally called “Going Postal”
    • I’m still debating about whether or not this is canon to the timeline.

    The Rescue
    A Soul Killer side story
    Chapter Count: 6
    Post Date: 28-11-2009 (28th November 2009)

Summary: Set in-between “Revival” and “Dead will Rise” The Rescue sees Soul Killers Zaach, Krall, Braahk, Torgr and Sauvix sent to the snow plains of Oksjord. They have heard that a Locust Priestess, Galai, has strayed there and The Queen has ordered her rescue. The Soul Killers must get to her before the Cogs do… as well as the Lambent’s newest warriors, Rampage and Slicer.

    Notes:
    • First appearance of Rampage and Slicer.
    • I was into “Dead Snow” at the time I wrote this.
    • I think I wrote this during the time I was still working on “Brotherhood” I hadn’t seen my Soul Killers for some time, so I thought about giving them a chance to get out again!
    • The titles are styled like Left 4 Dead’s chapters, I was tempted to call this last one “Standoff Finale!”

    Survival
    The latest Soul Killer story.
    Chapter Count: 23
    Post Date: 09-04-2010 (9th April 2010)

Summary: The Soul Killers return! With the hollow flooded and The Queen mysteriously absent, The Soul Killers now act as guardians to a small tribe of Locust that escaped the hollow. Though with Cog patrols, Cyron War Robots and Lambent hunters on the move, how long can The Soul Killers survive?

    Notes:
    • This one has more moments of humour. I seem to have gotten away with it.
    • First appearance of “The Lost”
    • Survival is set a week or two after “Dead will Rise”
    Lost is Her Soul
    Nokada's Clan stage a Rescue!
    Chapter Count: 7
    Post Date: 11-02-2011

Summary: In a Flashback to the COG's Siege of the Nexus, Nokada leads the Lost on a Rescue mission to save the trapped Priestess Galai from Myrrah's holding cells.

    Notes
    • I think I planned to save this whole story as a series of chapters for a future story. Though after completeting Survival, I thought it'd be better as a new story.
    • This Story ties in with my Short "Tormented"

A Day in the Life of: A Steed
    A Short
    Chapter Count: 1
    Post Date: 19-06-2010 (19th June 2010)

Summary: Written for the “Day in a Life” short story collection. This is just a simple story about Onwa’s Reaver.

    Notes:

    • Not much really, wasn’t feeling 100% when I wrote this. But eh, it’s fun.
    Love is in the Air
    A Quirky, non canon short.
    Chapter Count: 1
    Post Date: 21-05-2011 (21st of May, 2011)

Summary: In this non canon short, we find The Soul Killer Reaver on Seran's valentine day, he's smitten for a female Reaver and will do anything to win her over!

    Notes:
    • Non Canon - Did I bring that up? 0.0
    • This one was kind of an attempt to get back into the writing spirit after a bit of a slump
    • C'mon, you know you love that SK Reaver!
A Day in the life of: A Pariah
A One shot written for the Day in the Life Collab
    Chapter Count: 1
    Post Date: 28-02-2010 (28th June 2010)

Summary: Queen Myrrah has declared war on humanity, declaring that their extermination is the only salvation for the Locust Horde. As countless flock to Queen Myrrah's new order, A Priestess named Galea remains loyal to T'Chark and the ways of old. She will defy all to prevent her Son being corrupted by the new testament.

    Notes:
    • Wasn't included originally because of it being a seperate one shot for another collabaration, but because it included the lore of Soul Killers, it was added.
    Shadows of the Feared
    One for the “Villains”
    Chapter Count: 1
    Post Date: 20-02-2010 (20th February 2010)

Summary: Not strictly a Soul Killer story, but one worth pointing out. During the battle of Nexus, The Overseers, the mysterious leaders of the Lambent, send their Emissaries to hunt down and kill The Queen. The Emissaries are the feared bodyguards of the Overseers, lead by Scourge. They launch an assault on the palace.

    Notes:
    • It’s worth pointing out because, let’s face it. The Soul Killers are going to meet their match one day.
    • I guess you could call the Emissaries the “Horsemen of the Apocalypse” but for Locust.

Trivia can be fun, you can learn all kinds of things from little factoids and notes. So here is a random collection of Trivia from The Soul Killer Stories.

    • Each title is supposed to mean something. “Revival” shows the Locust making a comeback. “The Dead will Rise” shows the Locust, thought destroyed, have come back. “Ascension of the Reaper” tells us about the rise of Hakar, “The Rescue” is self explanatory and “Survival” is about the possible last Locus trying to survive.
    • Name Game: Onwa and Taus are plays on the Bionicle names “Onua” and “Tahu”. Meanwhile, “Sauvix” was the name of the Sea Devil Commander in “Warriors of the Deep” and “Torgr” was Szlar’s rival in Unreal Championship 2.
    • Despite how it looks. “Zaach” is pronounced. “Zark”
    • Zaach was originally the name given to a character for a set of comedy stories I had planned about four Locust that survive the Lightmass bombing.
    • The Saviour Soldiers were planned to come back in Dead Will Rise, but I felt the Lambent fit their role better.
    • The Soul Killers (Except Taus and Braahk) are somewhat modelled off Delta Squad.
    • Krall was intended to outshine Skorge
    • In the Dead will Rise, The Soul Killers were going to tame a Brumak that gatecrashes the meeting in the 2nd chapter, got cut because it killed the mood
    • Dead Will Rise was planned to be snow themed, changed to hollow theme instead.
    • Haar is Hakar without the K
    • Cut moment from Ascension: The Cog set up an ambush for the Soul Killers, it doesn't quite go as planned. (Replaced with the chapter "Fire Fight")
    • The character of Revix from Ascension is a request from Cog Edward. I based him off Major Rawne from Gaunts Ghosts
    • Cut moment from Ascension: Hakar and Sauvix disguise themselves as Steel Guard to sneak into a Cog base, cut and saved for "Brotherhood". (Though not as Steel Guard)
    • I don't want to limit the Lambent to just "Lambent [Insert Locust Here]" so I try to come up with different mutations, beasts or soldiers for them. We know about Martyrs, Meat Puppets and Lords, but there may be more soon! (Of course, my fears are put to rest with the introduction to Drudges and so forth)
    • The Soul Killers did pay a visit to the Map “Grind Yard” in The Rescue
    • The Soul Killers visit “Oksjord” in The Rescue, which was a play on Øksfjord, a place in Norway and was also in Dead Snow.
    • The Rescue: Myzfit (Formally Kaytar) a character mentioned in “The Rescue” is by Frag-Happy.
    • Rampage and Slicer were inspired by Lugnut and Blitzwing, the two best characters (IMO) in Transformers animated.
    • Strangely, it took me a while to think up Rampage’s name, I was trying to avoid calling him “Crusher” while looking for a name that could relate to destruction.
    • Imagination is more important than knowledge - Einstein once said it. (I think)
    • Strangely, Sauvix has appeared in all Soul Killer fictions. That’s more than Hakar, the leader!
    • If the Soul Killers had voices, Onwa would sound like Keith David, Sauvix would be like Kerr Avon from Blake’s 7 and Taus would have a hushed, whisper like voice.
    • The “Acts” in the Rescue I laid out in a L4D fashion “The [Place]” followed by “Standoff” which I was so tempted to call “Standoff finale!” (Cue Tank music)
    • Where did “Soul Killer Neophyte” come from? An Achievement name in Doom on XBLA. =p

    Hindsight’s
Do you ever have one of those times where you write something, then later when you look back at it, you think “Huh, wish I’d done that.”?

I seem to do that all the time, here’s a few things I wished I’d done in certain stories.

    • Revival - After writing Chapter 6, I wished I’d found the time to re-write it, thankfully, I did find that time.
    • Ascension - Wish I’d found a way to include characters Jareek and Bohvak fighting off Lambent during their assault on Nexus
    • Ascension - Kind of wish I’d made the last chapter longer.
    • Ascension - The chapter “Blood and Guts” I kind of wanted to have a scene where Hakar and Garek witness a fight between Parasites and Anti-Bodies. (The Parasites are attacking)
    • Survival - Kind of wish I went for the Alpine/Snowy setting now.

    Questions: Do you have one?

1 - Why did you choose to do stories based around the Locust instead of the COG?

A: I've always like to do things differently, I think i find it more fun to revolve around animal or monster characters. (Though I can still do good humans) I read*The Locust Side of the Story by Starpilot*and thought "I could try that as well"

Plus, playing as the Locust in Multiplayer won me over, I love their taunts and roars. Truth be told, if Gears multiplayer was just "Red Cogs Vs Blue Cogs" then I probably would write Cog stuff.

2 - Which SK is your favorite, and why?

A: I love them all, but if I had to pick a favourtie, it would be Zaach. The main guy, the lowly grunt turned super star. I loved how I changed him from Revival to Dead will Rise, starting out as "The Neophtye" then evolving into a confident and a little cocky elite.

Although I do have a soft spot for Torgr and the Reavers.

3 - Who'd win in a fight? Delta One (Marcus, Dom, Baird and Cole), or the SK's?*

A: Neither - The Emissaries would thrash em!

Unfortunately, this one is down to opinion, I personally feel the SK's could cripple delta, but I'm alone there. It's true what they say. "It's so lonely at the top"

4 - Do you have a planned ending story arc for the SK's? Or have you even considered it?

A: I'm thinking about the finale after Gears 3 comes out. I'd probably do spin-off's and one shots afterwards, but the one that rolls along side Gears 3 would be the last one.

5 - What's the one scene out of all the SK stories that you're most proud of as a piece of writing?

A: It's a tie between two Dead will Rise chapters. "The Siege" because it had a light hearted yet action filled atmosphere and was very fun to write. Along with "Beauty and the Beast" which was the last chapter, I got quite excited, picturing Zaach and Torgr battling the big bad, along with my own Reaver chase. The Queen's speech (Although now moot) just closed the story nicely.

Okay, okay, and Ascensions "Blood and Guts" chapter.*

6 - What inspired you to write Gears fiction in the first place?

A: I love creating characters and writing stories about them, whether they be fan characters in someone's universe or they're my own creations, it's something I enjoy alot. Gears of War was my first Xbox360 game and I got hooked on it. I stumbled my way here and looked at some other people's stories and thought "I wouldn't mind giving that a bash!"

7 - What made you want to write Gears fiction, more so, based around the Soul Killers and not just everyday Drones?

A: Kind of felt the Locust needed a feared, elite unit. Though looking back on it, I find the Gears 1 Locust superior to their future counterparts (So far).

8 - Will the Soul Killers ever meet their match - or story rivals?

A: You could count the Emissaries as potential rivals.

9 - How and why did you name them 'Soul Killers'?

A: Honestly, can't answer that one. It just came to me after I saw "Soul Drinker Omnibus" at Waterstones. (A Warhammer book)

    The Finale!

So there you go ladies and gentlemen! The SK Collection thread has truly come to life, and I think it looks great! Hopefully it’ll help new readers get into the series!

Being honest, I’m a little surprised myself, I didn’t think I’d carry on, but after finishing Revival, I felt a desire to keep going, keep the characters alive and just rock on. Classic case of after finishing your story, you find yourself attached to your created characters.

Overall, I’m really happy with the series, I think they come out quite well and people seem to enjoy reading the stories and the characters. Even if the stories aren’t “the norm” so to speak.

Big shout out to all members of the Fanfic writers support group, who all grouped together and helped this come to life. You guys rock.

If you start to read the series, I hope you enjoy it!
"Hey, I'm not in like a competition to get your attention or praise SKORGE but I write like Jay does too, which is why I like his FFs so much! Jay: Thank you too, for making yours easy to read and litterally watch in your head"

"Every page in this thread that I just read is full of winly awesome"

"It's very neatly done and presented in a way that's user friendly. I'm am lost no longer. "

"I'm really enjoying reading this Jay, there is so much information that I keep reading over and over and over.

You should be chuffed to bits Jay, its impressive stuff"

Oh, and I just remembered. I won't have time to work on the Zaach drawing this weekend, but I'm still doing a little bit of it every other day or so. Whenever I can grab a few minutes.

    Well, whenever you can.

I'm thinking it might look good underneath the "Who are The Soul Killers" Banner.

Listening to Hate by Drowning Pool while reading this thread put me in the mood to do something gears-related, although I'm not sure what...

Congrats on making the thread, mein friend .

Funny, Pandut... I was listening to that song earlier.

I'm giving rap ANOTHER chance right now, though. It's still not appealing to me. Ugh.

Anyway, I'm formulating a really badass idea.

    You'll like it.

You put me in thanks BEFORE Skorge?! And left him out completely?!

    Don't forget our precious SKORGE!

    =O

    Edit: Oh wait, I'm blind.

I like the set-up of the thread though.

    Lots of awesome!

I have an idea for Onwa... I'll see if you dig it. I'll need some time though... to finish it.

I even had a drawn plan of what this would (hopefully) look like.

    You did fantastic!

I realized I messed up really bad with Onwa...

The figure I made, I mean.

I got mixed up with what eye he was supposed to be blind in. I think the figure is blind in his right eye instead of his left.

Lol how I'm in the credits, yet I haven't done anything to help you (no need to take it out, I like recognition)

Anyway, awesome thread Jay. Very helpful to others who wish to start your SK series, *caugh*me*caugh*

    One thing I noticed,

“Have you ever been to a Soul Killer cleanup sight? What they’ve done to Gears, one cleanup sight is probably enough to demoralise the whole army!”
The quote in WHo Are the Soul Killers, would look better centerized, so people know its not part of the information text. Like so:

“Have you ever been to a Soul Killer cleanup sight? What they’ve done to Gears, one cleanup sight is probably enough to demoralise the whole army!”
Ok, not much of a difference, but you get what I mean.

I like him a lot because he's the "elder" type... not to mention I prefer Therons over Kantus any day... I don't know why, I just do.

    Must be their kama's.

@Grub: I think I get what you mean.

Anyway, I'm pretty certain you've commented on at least one story, that's goo enough for me.

@Adam: Hmm... I get the "Elder Theron" part

Though Kama? Elaborate, I am in need of it!

    @Adam: Last picture is broken.

Also, elaborate, I am in need of it!
As it relates to clone troopers:

Although inspired by the Thyrsus Sun Guard belt spats, kamas were more
traditionally associated with Mandalorian warriors. ARC troopers, along with the clone commanders.

Kamas were used primarily by ARC troopers, not only for protection, but as a symbol of rank; most high-ranking or elite clone troopers wore them to signify their high rank.

    Aka, skirt-thingys they wear.
For elite Locust: We can assume they serve the same purpose?

Least we forget that Karen Traviss did the SW: Republic Commando books...coincidence or elaborate planning?

Maybe I'll find more Trivia and Hindsight's at some point. There could be some fun in those.

Should the Collab Banner go underneath the link to the Collab? xD

    Finally, Thanks again all!

Ok, I was busy eating barbecued food earlier, so I missed this. Read it up, though, and I found a few surprising points. Before I go ahead on this, I'm going to come up with a rough story outline and send it your way, Jay. That way I don't make any mistakes.

I've only read Revival and the first couple of parts of Raise the Dead; I ran out of time and even stopped writing my own FF around then. One day, I need to hit all these stories up.

Nice work Jay, thread looks fantastic! And I assume Frag will colour the other pictures in as well? If so, well ... I strangely find them fitting. As in, they really do make the thread come out a lot more.

    Let's see:

*) This is now up on the FFC, which is a good thing.

*) Collab goes up tomorrow, yet some people probably started before then.

*) Work on an opening speech for the Collab (May recycle some stuff from the proposal)

*) I've still to work on a new Survival chapter

*) I know he said they were wrong, but I'd like to add AdamFenix's Onwa picture to the Art bar. (Photography can be a form of art)

*) Have some Krall back story to do for SKORGE

How about a discussion about something?

    I'd be honored, Jay.

Even if I did screw up a bit...

(Odd note; Onwa looks like a BEAST with a Longshot in his hands)

Also... I'll work on a special picture for Onwa, if you do decide to use a picture of him.

K, Onwa "NECA" figure has been added to the Art Bar.

I have some stuff to do, though sidetracked by some good friends inviting me to play Guardian with them. Went from 71 to 76. I may still be climbing, but I made good progress.

In other news, will try and do a new Survival chapter some time next week.

Planning ahead, but Ara gets an "Awesome" moment later on.

I'll see what I can do with Onwa. I'll need more supplies first though. I need to haul my ass over to a craft store for supplies.

Tell them it's for a good cause.

Favourite moment in Revival: Hakar punching a guy in the face, before yelling "All shall fall before the Horde."

Dunno why, that was just fun.

Question: Does RAAM say that in multiplayer? Because I swear that he did...like... once?
