As you might know, we’ve been investigating a recent profile problem that was reported on these forums as well as to the Microsoft and Epic Product Support teams. What’s happened is that a particular sequence of events has corrupted the profiles of a very small number of Gears of War 2 players such that they can’t launch the game with their regular Xbox LIVE profiles. In those rare cases, players, particularly those playing in split-screen sessions, have run into a timing issue related to signing in and out of Xbox LIVE profiles in the game or during the save-game process which results in a corrupted profile for one of the players.
If you’re currently affected by this problem, the Microsoft Product Support team can help! Thanks to you guys, the Microsoft PSS team has a workaround fix that was first posted here in the Epic forums. This workaround resets the corrupt profile fields that stop you from launching Gears of War 2. However, please be aware that the reset fields contain your multiplayer rank progression, campaign progression, and collectibles. Achievements that you’ve already earned will be unaffected, but progression toward in-progress achievements such as “Seriously 2.0” will be reset along with the rest of the corrupted data.

Alternatively, you can attempt the "fix" that's been reported here in the forums to reset your profile and be able to play again. One version of the fix is listed as:
1. Launch Gears of War 2 without signing in.
2. Go to Training Ground and pick the Submission training.
3. The game will ask if you want to play without a profile, hit yes.
4. While loading into the Submission training, quickly log in with your account.
5. No more freeze up, your profile has been reset and the game goes back to title screen.
For those of you affected by this issue, we're very sorry for the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience. We're continuing to look into the exact cause of this issue but please understand that any future Title Update will just prevent this from happening in the future and will not be able to restore your currently corrupted profile.
