Default Wrestling game project idea (help wanted!!!)

    Ok guys,

Lemme first say thank you for letting me be here and also to address my ideas here. My name is Chris and I am just one guy with a huge wrestling game fetish. I throughly enjoy the AKI style wrestling games. Anyway allow me to get to the point here. This is a fan based, fan funded wrestling game project in hopes of bringing a wrestling game to all of us hardcore pro wrestling fans out there for the PC. This is "your" chance to help out in making a wrestling game for the PC. I value any and all input and suggestions and ideas.

Basically I literally have no idea on how to start making a wrestling game so if anyone is interested in contributing their ideas and help to make this game happen it would and could benefit us all who enjoy awesome wrestling games. If anyone here has a passion for wrestling games then your help/input would be greatly appreciated and encouraged.

I`m just gonna say I don`t plan on making any money off the game but as far as funding goes I could pay some people for their work (providing it met my approval) It would be great to have a demo out in say 6 months to a year.

Obviously the game will be made using the Unreal Engine. I guess we are going to need the following:

    1. Programmers
    2. Animators
    3. Coders (is that the same as programmers???)
    4. Artists
    5. Modelers

I apologize if this post sounds ignorant (waiting to be flamed) but it is just an idea that I have. I am personally tired of the WWE Smackdown vs Raw games and am upset and disappointed us PC gamers don`t have much of a selection of wrestling games for the PC. If I am missing anything guys please feel free to correct or edit this thread.

Right now I am just looking for some help, the game would play/be like WWE No Mercy. I am not demanding anyone for help but whatever you could help/contribute towards the game would be fine. If we could get together maybe 6 wrestler models and some basic move animations and of course a decent wrestling ring and just accomplish a simple one on one match type that would be perfect!

The move animations to start with would be:

    "regular grapple animation"
    "punch animation"
    "punch receive animations"
    "kick animation"
    "kick receive animations"
    "bodyslam animation"
    "bodyslam receive animation"
    "suplex animation"
    "suplex receive animation"
    "walking animation"
    "running animation"
    "irish whip execution animation"
    "irish whip receive animation"
    "clothesline animation"
    "clothesline receive animation"
    "drop kick animation"
    "drop kick receive animation"
    "pinning animation"
    "top rope climbing animation"
    "top rope climbing down animation"
    "top rope jumping off animation"

The above animations are just a standard example.

Like I said, if you help contribute towards this project you will have credit given with the making of the game and if applicable upon my approval I can provide limited funding for things that I am specifically looking for.

On a final note, maybe we could hold polls. One of the first polls would be to decide on what to call this intended wrestling game.

    Thanks guys,
    Chris

Ok i can tell you a great place to start.
Start by learning the UDK, unless you have more then just ideas to contribute you will get flamed. not harshly but mildly, the second thing you need to understand is that wrestling games are not easy as they look. and will require an enormous amount of skill and tallent. granted there is that on these boards but see my first suggestion.

give it some thought. and learn udk inside and out.

    Thanks Orindoomhammer,

I actually have no intention of learning UDK. But who knows I may look into it. For the time being, I would more or less be someone (behind the scenes) who can help with funding and ideas/concepts. If someone in their spare time who has the necessary skill or skills that can help with the project I can try to work out a fair salary, at their pace, a schedule that was flexible for them. But I would really like a demo out in 6-12 months. That would be the deadline. So if any of you possess the skills noted in my introductory post and would like to offer your services please feel free to PM me or reply to this thread. Thank You.

I guess a good start would be an artist/animator for the concept wrestler models, arena and ring. I don`t need a belt right now. I also don`t plan on having a referee yet. Here are my ideas for the wrestler models.

    1. average sized wrestler, think Bret Hart

    2. big wrestler like Big Show

    3. lucha libre like Rey Mysterio (little guy)

    4. guy like Umaga`s size

    5. african american guy like R- Truth`s size

    6. big guy like Batista

I was going to go with a guy like Yokozuna but that might prove to be a bit difficult. As far as the models go, I am not picky they can look cartoony even just as long as they can look decent animated. I am not expecting the models to look anywhere as real or as good as the character models in the SvR games. I am just looking to try (with the help of others) to help make a fun, wrestling game that everyone that likes wrestling games will really enjoy!

If we can get enough talented people signed on we can have a really "AWESOME" game on our hands. I mean there should be a huge market for PC Wrestling games considering there are not many good ones out. Look at Red Dead Redemption, alot of people didn`t think there was a market for western games but that game is proving them dead wrong!

I'm not trying to sound like an ass here, but you can't honestly think anyone will hire someone solely for ideas. Like I said, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but if you think someone will hire someone else just to be a guy with ideas then you're sorely mistaken. I mean, they sometimes hire people like that in the real world when you work for a heavy business, such as EA, but not for an indie developer.

99.99999999999999999999999999999999% of indie developers will not hire you for this aspect of your skills. Even more so because you can't use UDK. Try picking up something and stick with it; like programming or modeling or something. People are ALWAYS looking for programmers and modelers, and even concept artists. Try to focus on these aspects and then make a team around it. Eventually you will get your game done, if you did anything I said here.

    Baracuda771,

Sorry but you might have me mistaken, I am not looking to get hired for my ideas. I am just asking the wrestling game fan community (who posses) the talent/skills for making a wrestling game to get together with all of us wrestling game fans and create a most excellent wrestling game.

I am trying to get some fire/momentum going to try to get a wrestling game made for the PC. Surely there are enough talented people who are interested in such? I mean I see all these ads for help with fps and survial horror games and I wonder why can`t we get some wrestling games going for the PC? I mean the knowledge and the technology is there isn`t it?

I am just trying to be a voice for all of us wrestling game fans. Someone can even come into this thread and take it over (someone who knows what they`re doing...LOL). Again, my plan is just to try to get some interest into getting a good wrestling game made for the PC.

Everyone I think applauds your desire and voice for the wrestling community, however although there are many talented individuals on these boards, that is simply not enough to complete a PC game. What you are describing will most definitely take more than 6 months to get a demo, and unfortunately most talented folks here require payment for work. You mentioned you are willing to fund the project, but I would highly suggest getting familiar with UDK and a basic understanding of each position before you start forking money over to people. Although this is your passion, you want to make sure you know exactly where your money is going.

    Just my 0.02 =)

Couldn't have said it better my self. What you are wanting is to start a studio. this could be done but let me tell you this. If you are going for wrestaling your are going to need, an I dont say this lightly but NEED mocap support. And this does not come cheep. at the very least your looking at 250$ per animation. you can get others but i doubt they will be taylor made to your project and thus inferior. And this will reflect badly on you and your team. not to mention the coding... I know abit about coding and let me tell you ouch. You will have to have a top coder for it and possibly the source code. there will be allot of collision detection and unless you have deep pockets i dont think your going to find a programmer talented enough for this. but i could be wrong.

Alternatively I am working on a mocap suit and hope to soon have it together and working. this will take allot of work for me but when its up and running i can possibly do some animations for you. lol they wont be to the quality your going to need but it may be something to think about. this is if you get some people to help you and get that far.

I do rather wish you luck I loved smack down vs raw on the ps2 and the world could do with another good wrestling sim. especially one on the pc.

So what you're telling me, is you want to make a team of people who all like wrestling games and put them into a group to make a wrestling game? If that's true, what are you going to do to help this group? Share you ideas with them? That's what I was trying to point out to you earlier. Nobody will join your team if all you do is throw ideas at them.

    Thank You Orindoomhammer,

I was thinking about buying a mocap suit and the cameras needed. Let me know how it all works out for you. I would very much like you to do some animations for me if possible. Thank you for all of the advice also. Sounds pricey for everything but I feel very strongly and passionately about this project whether it gets off the ground or not, either way I feel we will be getting some good PC wrestling games soon. I will be looking for some top coders indeed. Thanks for that tip!

    Actually,

Yes. I also plan on doing some minor art work. I was going to work on some sounds for the game as well. I am just looking for some others who share my interest on making a PC wrestling game and whoever wants to help out.

Thank you for your input. Yes, you are right. I will do that. Thanks for the advice. I will download a trial of UDK and check into the specifics of the positions. I should have done it before.

That's ridiculous though. Why anyone would do that is beyond me. He might as well become a publisher instead of a game developer if he's going to do that.

Yes this is true money is a great motivator. I wasn`t "throwing money at everyone" I was just saying I can provide some funding for some work that I may require that I can not do or that I do not possess the knowledge and or skills for.
