Thread: Bot pathing

    Default Bot pathing

    Hey all,

OK so I've been following the top down UDK tutorial on 3DBuzz to try and get a bot up and running, in those videos 4 bots are added and each patrol back and forth between two points, however, in my game I want one bot to follow a set path once and not double back on itself. While following this tutorial I came to the part where the bot paths are set up in Kismet and each is given a destination and an origin point. In my game though, I've given my bot an origin and multiple destination points.

When I build everything and try out my level I don't even have a bot spawning (whereas in the tutorial video all the bots appear at this point) so I'm definitely doing something wrong.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated, I'm a beginner with UDK and I have a project due in on Friday!

    Thanks!

Oh wow, thank you so much! I didn't expect anyone to go to such effort to help, very very much appreciated!

This is exactly what I need and I can see it worked perfectly for you, but I just get a bot spawning at my original note and then just standing there. I've gone over everything in the video and triple-checked it... so I guess it must be something I changed earlier.... any ideas?

Here's a screenshot of what I have in Kismet:

Here are my actor factory settings:

And here's what happens when I run my game (it looks like there's two bots there cause I'm using a 3rd person camera):

Thank you for the help so far!

    CoolCool no problem,

How far away are each note? there is a Max Distance to worry about too.

Well I did originally have them quite a big distance apart, but I moved them to around the distance in your video to see if it was that, still the same result - bot not moving...

Is that Terrian or Static mesh ground?

How close to the ground are the notes? can you lower them almost all the way to the ground just to test.

Can you add a BSP ground under the notes just to test trying to eliminate thing with out you uploading you map files.

Thats all I can think of your setup looks perfect.

Ah! Moving all the notes right down to the ground worked! Thank you so much!

I am using a terrain that has slopes, will this cause me a problem later on if I wanna lead the path up a slope?

Again, thanks, you've really saved my bacon

Sweet, I think I remember that as long as the note is close to the ground it will walk up a slope its not the hieght of the note its the didstance the note is from the surrounding surfaces.

    Hey OmegeMinus1,
Do you still have those vids? When I looked at the links and it says they are no longer available.. from the sounds of it, your tutorials are exactly what I need for my project. I finally figured out how to get a bot in there and set it to attack, but now I need it to go from nod to nod...

    Thanks in advance.
