    Map - Deathmatch (PC/PS3) DM-165 [Final][PC][PS3][Pics]

    ================================
    D M - 1 6 5
    ================================

    Version 1.00
    Last update 01/04/10
    Cooked with UT3 2.1

    Filename: DM-165
    Author: DeathoX 8 (a.k.a. XYZ 8000)
    Website: www.DeathoX8.com

    ================================
    Description
    ================================

    A little remake of my DM-BCE_10100101 that I made for fun in a short time.

    It contains mostly custom meshes (made with Blender), and some extremely advanced and sophisticated visual effects that provide a completely new game experience.
    It can be pretty heavy on the eyes, so please don't play this for twelve hours straight (I know you will be tempted to).

    Gameplay wise the map is a quite close remake of my UT map, but the walkways are larger and it's a bit harder to fall off the map. I have also added a bit more cover and trickjumps.
    It is still a pretty open falloff map, so it's not really suitable for competitive play. I recommend playing against bots skilled enough to know how to lift jump.

    Enjoy

    Agreed...downloading and playing both variants of the map. Have to give the PS3 some exercise today.

    Played the PC version now...and it was phenomenal playing on a multi-leveled ice platform, but I did encounter some motion blur in here from time to time...
    However, outside of that, plays a lot like some old Quake 3 Arena (how dare me mention that franchise) maps, especially the later DM maps from that game.

    EDIT: Just played the PS3 cook as well, and it's official, seems like there's a whole mess of HOM all over the place, I'd look into that situation if I were you.

    Being a fan of your work, I checked out the map. I like the "crystal" look of the map, though having it located in outer space seems odd to me. But open maps like this in outer space are odd anyways.

    The game play is fine and I know it's not meant to be a typical DM map. The 2 things that prevent me from enjoying this map are:

    1. Like WedgeBob mentioned, there is a very quick "hall of mirrors" effect that happens. It's hard to tell when it happens though. If this is intentional, them I find it odd to use this visual effect as it's associated with BSP errors and such (and I know you build quality maps).

    2. The biggest thing I don't like are the rotating rings of distraction. It's once thing that they are rotating and are close to the map (as well as the material matching to most of the map), they follow the player, which doesn't make sense and is a unneeded distraction. Since I play this game offline, it's a distraction that I have and the bots don't.

    Since it's not your typical map, maybe it's not meant for everyone and that's cool. Anyways, good to see you still mapping.

    top ice/crystal effects
    same feeling as odedge and webdgebob on the 2 mentioned points (especially the rotating effect...it only hide the beauty of the place imho and is limit hypnotic...my wife found me in the garden running in large circles at 3 in the mornin... )
    other thing that i "dislike" is that weapons can go between the crystal tiles ;it s nice for some weapons with small projectiles but it looks really odd with shock balls and rockets...the transparence is a nice add to the gameplay but if the weapons can go through it s just like firing with no obstacle at all...lol^^if u are hidden behind the tiles u can be damaged by a shock ball because it go through a very small hole but still damaging on large radius...anyway i have note that on several maps and it s ut3s fault

    thx for that nice & original map

    Hello, thanks everybody for the feedback and sorry for the delay in my reply.

    The rotating rings around the map are meant to be annoying, and the HOM effect is wanted as well
    Being this a first april map I decided to play around a bit with UT3's rendering engine and see if I could mess things up. I think I pretty much reached my goal

    I know that the little spaces between the tiles are pretty annoying when using weapons like the rocket launcher, but when playing with bots I think that it adds even more chaos to the already chaotic gameplay.

    I originally wanted to do another map for first april, but when building the layout I realized that it wouldn't have been completed in time so I whipped up this one in a few hours. Unfortunately I don't really have a lot of free time to spend mapping, lately...

    Thanks to everybody who has played the map

    Cool tried it and forgot to post here

    This is definitely one of those fun and different maps and it can be enjoyable to play. It's a setting with what I like to call an "orange" hole, spinning gyros, lights shooting off into space above you from the crystals and what seems to be ice block paths although probably not frozen water in space. If you try this map, then that is what awaits you. The lifts are a welcome surprise and the placement of the powerups near the edge of this space map makes it interesting. This is a map of paths, ramps and some lifts and it's a challenge to try and use the sniper to nail someone on the other side. It seems simple to play at first, but it isn't easy; although, it can be easy to fall.

    Cool Good at visuals.

    This space map looks tangible and excitement. Like the crystal pillars, rotated rings and icy blocked floors and lifts. No matter how that the thing at the bottom is the "orange" hole, seems pretty much decent for it. This map's effect goes blurry in just few seconds on your eyes while exploring, aiming and fragging; and fun. Interesting gameplay and the bots are good (but average). Don't let the bots will fall you over the edge, at least the player load recommendation is at least four players.
