Default Kill Nathan- very much WIP -new concept art-

so a few years back i was playing around with game maker learning to make an fps. my friend was over that night and i asked him.. what kind of game would you like to play if i figure this out? . his response? "a game where i get to kill you"
And so the origin of "kill nathan was born. my name is nathan i did make a small fps shooter on game maker. it wasn't very good tho.lol
anyway, now that udk came out i figured id retry kill nathan on the unreal engine.
The main concept is that nathans are taking over the universe. there are millions of nathans, ones that jump high, some that run fast, some wield guns, others have swords. some breath fire. some are radioactive. (its supposed to be random and fun and crazy) . Theres even going to be an omega nathan who so big you can only fit a PORTION of his FOOT on the screen. The best part? YOU get to kill me in as many possible ways as many possible times.

Ill be working on this alone so far, and ive only got a small part of udk down. So please, if your interested in helping out please dont hesitate to make an offer.

    very rough concept

    new concept art

and in adition to micahpharoh here who offered to do models, my my friend has confirmed he will help after seeing this thread become more popular than 70% of the wip threads. woot.

hahahaha! if that game is going to have as good sense of humour as you then it'll sure be good!

Love the concept art. I don't.. really understand it, but I love it :P why not keep the stick figures?

Edit: On the lower left portion of the screen(when viewing the picture) it has a small section called products. LOL KillNathan is on a mug and everything. its made automaticly by the site I know but still it look really funny :P

the concept art is very rough.,lol
trust me, it'll look much better than that. ill probrably give you guys a better picture if your nice enough.
its sorta like fight the zombie horde then fight the giant million foot tall zombie at the end. except all the zombies are nathan who do tons of different things. It supposed to have a very serious, epic, fast paced feel to the gameplay. You get tons of guns, magic powers, and every kill combo i can come up with, cause if your going to kill lots of one thing, its gotta be varied.
and its supposed to be a joke to those that actually know me...

and i thought stick figures would add humor, and we haven't seen any udk stick figure games, it it would ruin the feel of seriousness to it.

This project is a funny anecdote at this point but it could be interesting.

The actual gameplay doesnt sound very original from what ive read, and its kind of hard to see where its going with the info you have provided. It is a bit contradictive, like the part with its like fighting a zombie horde but with some zombies being huge, other being able to run fast, jump high and use weapons. Thats like saying I am making a Ninja game, but the ninjas have bazookas, sail on the sea with pirate ships and are on a quest to find Lara Crofts third lost boob. See where im going? (But man, how cool wouldnt that game be?)

With that said, and the reason that im making this reply, is to say that if you actually go for the 3-year-old-scribbles-on-paper look (even though you said you wouldnt) it could be really cool.
Because of the general crazyness and as you say it is supposed to be a joke, I think that style would empathize the impact of the project. If you make it with a realistic or even semi realistic look itll just be lost in "all the other games" that look like that, only you wont be able to compeate with them because:
    1) You're a one man team (limited resources)
    2) The game is a joke (your words, not mine)

Based on what you've written I think the strengths of this project would be to not take it too seriously and go with a more "Serious sam" approach.

ive got a couple of friends who have an interest in helping, although they have yet to come thorough. And its not really meant to compete, its just supposed to be. id have to see how it looks in the end, but so far i dont plan on going commercial. i hate when companies sell a crap game, and i wont become one of them. a free crap game on the other hand... lol.
This game is really supposed to be my attempt(maybe a team?) at getting the engine down. so even if it is scribbles, it'll be full fledged 3-d.
also, im a crap mesh modeler.... so any help in that field would be appreciated. ive got 3dsmax available.

I can only speak from personal experience when I say that I find it hard to work on projects without a clear goal. If its only meant to be a learning experience, then I assume that is your goal, and i'm all for that. I dont think you should set out to make a "crap game" though, because you will lose intrest in making the game and you'll either suffer through a long period in your life when you work on a game you dont like, just to get it finished, or you'll can it and move on to something else. Both alternatives are kinda suckie, from where im sitting.

I have no grudge against companies that make and sell crap games, depending on what you define as "crap". If its just poor quality, then yea but there could be any number of reasons why the game is crap.
I do have a grudge against the people that insist on buying crap games, when the definition is "the same **** you've been playing for the last 15 years" because in the end that is why studios make them. I work in the industry and I cant tell you how much I want to make an original game, but because its a risk and might not sell as much investors are unwilling to invest.

of coarse i know thats the reason they make them. and it woories me to see certain companies that make amazing games get drowned out by over-media-hyped games who release crap games consistantly. those really good companies only release so many games.
if they go out, im might stop bothering with games. for instants, im tired of FPS. they're almost always the same and you use the same tactics each time. In some rare cases they're actually unique. we need more RPGs in this world. theyre used to be lots of them. and no, im not particullay excited about me3. that series has some huge flaws(but lets not discus that right now)
also, a crap game isnt my goal, a fun game is. However im sworn by self oath not go commercial with a crap game. even if it would sell, i wont sell a crap game. get it?

and props man, original games kick ass. that ninja game is something u could pitch.lol
im currently workin on some more concept art.

Will keep an eye on this one, looking forward to future posts.

Honestly I think making it like the concept would be harder than making it realistic.

I give you props to your artistic skills though. I'm no longer allowed to make concept drawings on paper because they're generally worse than that and it takes me like a week to do anything. So I usually just make the models in 3D and take a screenshots and change it up in Photoshop and say I drew it.

Pirate Rocket Ninjas: Quest for Laras third boob
If there's a boob in it, it'll probably make a few dollars (in Japan at least. God that place is creepy....)

Use that for a sequel. Kill Nathan on Two Continents. You can get up to seven games that way, and then expand into space.

Don't silly. That is obviously a newly terraformed planet being prepared for human habitation orbiting around a very small, albeit incredibly bright, star. I feel so much from that picture, as if it is preparing to... jump out at me. The depth, the color choice, the texture... all of it runs so smoothly. *takes sip of cheap wine in expensive glass*

If you keep that same art style as your concept art then I'd be willing to try to make you some models. I really love the hectic, messy look. It'd be hard to translate into 3d, but I think that it's possible, but you'd probably need heavy postprocessing.

    Edit:
After thinking some more, I wanted to point out that I'm only in if it's a short, simple, and very crazy game. I don't know UnrealScript, and I'm not going to make every model, but I think it'd be fun to spend some time with it.

Yeah that game does that a lot. The only thing better than blowing a city up in a helicopter is monster trucks, and unfortunately those games suck and Wal Mart does not appreciate you rollin' up to the store in Grave Digger (nor do they endorse jousting or riding bikes around to expedite and intensify your shopping experience, or camping by the TV's).

On the other hand, I could envision an awesome level taking place inside Wal Mart where you could just break everything while chasing Terrorist Nathan. That could actually be a great game... Wal Mart Land or something, where you try to avoid Wal Mart 'security' forces.

Is one of the boss's gonna be Taylor Swift, teamed up with Obama? Taylor can hit Kanye with the trophy thing she got an Obama can stand over him call him a jackass. Then kill a fly. Of course, he'll be repaired shortly because of the health care plan and it can be a never ending game.

I want the stick figures back. You could probably do it with the right shaders and textures, although it would require some heavy post processing. Can you remove the Z-depth from the render?
