    Default Gears of Destiny (JRPG in Gears of War)

    Hey guys. I'm starting this thread to post a video showing the Alpha release of the JRPG mod i'm calling "Gears of Destiny". It features a conversation system, a wretch pet, turned based battles, overworld puzzles, inventory and stat management, and a few other things. The J just means that its inspired by Japanese style RPGs from the mid to late 90s, like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7.
    I did this as part of my final project in the Level Design program at the Guildhall at SMU.
    Beta is due in 5 weeks or so. I'll post a public release at that time. Until then, let me know what you think. Thanks!

    Turned based like FF, good idea, love the dialogue options, so an xp upgrade system added too? i think if gears officially turns to RPG, mass effect 2 style is a good way for this game.

    Ummm, really looks like alot of fun... I hope it has over an hour of gameplay.
    Mod looks good, but to me it doesn't look very clean. Maybe making the chat/fight menu look more detailed... it would look alot better ... either then that it looks great.

    I love Turn Based Games, i useto play them alot great job, great work. you get 4 stars for this. If you had detailed menu like i said i'd give it 6 stars for this mod because it's new to the gears moddin...

    Cool stuff. I take it all the in-fight stuff happens with Matinee and skeletal mesh actors?

    What technique did you use to make the e-hole appear? That was dope.

    Thanks guys for the feedback guys, it helps me decide where to focus going into beta.

    @Serenius:
    I used a combination of different techniques to get the in-fight stuff. For example, the little boy main character is a skeletal mesh like you said (well, when he's attacking). The wretch and enemies are AI, and I feed them a go-to command. Also, there's another enemy who I don't show in the video who's a skeletal mesh. I initially wanted everyone to be AI, because it's a tad bit easier to set up. However, I really wanted the main character to dash across the screen kinda like cloud from FF7 when he goes into an attack.
    I could have just dialed up the run speed of the AI, but then the animation also speeds up and it ends up looking like a silly scurry, rather than a dash. So the boy is an AI when he's just standing around, but he switches to a skeletal meshMAT when he's on the attack, and I move him via a matinee. I make him do what appears to be kung fu moves by using the mantle animation.

    @edit:
    Oh, I made the e-hole using the standard e-hole actor prefab in the editor. Nothing complex going on there

    Dude. That's hilarious and very well put, you'd certainly be better with the UDK (plus it's free) but you sure did a good job there.

    I really like your wretch kismet (trow object, then return it) I could make use of something like that.
