Default one half of my arms are transparent?

    Hey all,

Im having trouble importing my model correctly and wondering if you fine folks can help me out.

One half of my weapon model shows up at transparent whilst the other half is completely fine, the thing is, the weapon is a pair of arms, and i've just duplicated them. It should be fine.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thanks,

    ZeJudge

I assume you used max to create the model. You created the first half and then used mirror to create the second half.

That's not working 'cause the mirrored part has flipped normals when the model is baked down. There are two ways to have it working correct. 1) after mirroring and before joining the two objects together reset the xform on the mirrored part (found under utitlities) collapse the stack select all of the objects polys and press flip under modify-edit polygons. 2) use the symmetry-modifier to create the mirrored geometry. After collapsing the stack you can export and the normals are correct.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks, that does help.

    Im actually using Maya.

I'll be sure to correct the normals on mirroring.

    Thank you!!

In Maya you can activate backface culling, which can be found in Viewport > Shading > Backface Culling. If this is on you can't see the backside of faces and makes it much easier to see this issue. You must also remember to delete history and freeze transformations on a mesh before exporting it.

Yeah, thanks guys, good info, really helpful.
I remember that last time I didn't freeze ftransformations and delete the history, which is really weird for me lol. But I done it again, exported, imported into udk as a test, and yeah, its all good now.

    Thanks a lot guys.
