    Map - Deathmatch (PC) DM-Elysium (final/pics/download)

    Name: DM-Elysium
    Version: final (RC1)
Compatibility: Patches 1-5 and Titan Pack are recommended

    Author: Sp4der

description: Elysium, meaning the place of ideal happiness, once used to be a blissful temple of the necris ...
Until death finally reached this place with the tournament.

However, the ancient nanoblack source is still active and can be used to quickly get to the
upper floor. The U-Damage is placed very uncommon and can be accessed via the Jumppad on the same level.
Also make sure you use the jumpboots.

    2 - 6 players

known bugs: Unfortunatly, the mappic doesn't show up ingame (for me)...
Just remember, black screen = Elysium

Anyways, I hope you like this map.

Well, I have tried several times to import the mappic, but somehow it doesn't save the package...

i add a new map to the site i always ask it right away lol

I'll add the map to our server soon, its ip is dm.mp-gaming.com:4321 and runs new custom maps only.

    Thanks
Maybe the reason for that is that I built a Lego model of the floorplan before starting in the editor

    Hey dude,

Did some fights in this final, as I already mention, I'm not a Necris fan & like some assets only but since the pics was good looking & seem to be a fun map, I wanted to try it.

There are couple of things that I don't like but since the map is final, well, some mappers can be insulted when others comments on there maps in final stage to fix things so I won't bother you with that.

I read the previous post about the preview pic not working. I check the map in the editor to look for this problem for you & the texture isn't in your map package at all. Also, make sure you set the texture in your ini file, not the material

But what I can say is that this map will please Necris fan for sure & keep mapping, you have some great talent dude

    Thanks again
yeah, i guess the mappic didn't stay in the package because I didn't use it in the map...or at least the editor thought it could throw it away xD
But mistakes are to learn from
I hope you won't be disappointed, but my next map will be necris style, too

I do like Necris map but it all depend on how they're built, so I'll look forward your next map

I forgot to mention that your map name is very cool

BTW THX for the Nano compliment in the other thread, it make me very happy

Somehow, I believe that there's more people building with Necris rather than Asian around here, don't get me wrong, they're both rather decent, but...coming from a Shadow Warrior background such as myself, love to see some samurai action once in a while, but I'll play this for the time being.

actually, i do like the asian style, too...but I have more experience with the necris meshes...maybe i will make an asian deathmatch map when I have time (japanese tea garden/san francisco <- that was really inspiring )

    Cool

I like how the Necris theme is done in this map and it's almost hard to tell it is actually there; at least it's not as obvious as other maps. I like the ornate detailed church environment created, but the rocks outside are a bit too brightly-colored. The gameplay is decent with plenty of room and places to go, but the sniper rifle and stinger minigun need to switch positions. Ah, that's where the armor vest be!

Overall it's a good map. The theme is done well as is the lighting. Game play has enough variation to keep things interesting.

Here are just some few points of constructive criticism for future maps...

    1. There is a mesh that the player can see through while riding on a lift. While sometimes you need/should disable collision so players don't get caught on meshes, it should be for the smaller items.

    2. With the jump boots, you can jump higher than the walls and see outside of the map. While some parts of the map look finished enough, there are other parts that reveal the map as a "stage set" (which all maps are, but you don't want the player to see that). Also, I was able to actually get out of the map, which should never happen.

    3. I would be mindful of the scaling of the map. Some parts seemed a bit too cramped, while a few parts seemed a bit open. This also applies to the visual aspect of the map as well.

    4. I am not too fond of the hallways with the Flak cannon. If you walk down the stairs, you eventually can grab it, but you have to walk back. This seems a bit much for a flak cannon, while the Udamage is easier to get. I guess if the hallways was shorter, it would help.

    5. Some areas of the map seemed to have too much stuff in a small area. For example, you have the enforcer (with ammo), 4 health vials, and 2 rocket ammo all in a relatively small space. Keep the goodies spread across the map. This includes mixing up what is grouped together. For example, instead of 2 rocket ammo, try a rocket and a link ammo.

Overall a good effort. With more experience, you will be able to produce a more polished map. Keep it up.

    Thanks for the extensive feedback
Well, I don't agree with you concerning the scale of the map, because personally I think that most maps have the same scale/width in all parts of the map...I wanted to give it a little variety
But since the map is final, it makes no sense to discuss about it xD
I hope I can learn from it for my next maps
Ok, I wasn't aware of the bug with the lift, so thx for finding it

Just to be clear, I think most of the maps looks "balanced", both in how big the architecture is and how big the playing area. There are just a few spots that seem a bit imbalanced. To me, it's not a big issue, just more of a issue of polish.

Great map, though the pic for it in the menu doesn't appear, it just uses whatever the map above or below it is... how do I change this? Thanks!

Also, noticed the bug with the lift... would be an easy fix I think...

    Cool Most favorable!

I'm not talking about the word 'Elysium' but exploring this map and its pretty good and slightly intense for fragging. Very good atmosphere and lighting, the skybox is good as new, better relative paths, good z-axis play and the bots will do the most. I like some placeable stuffs like Necris statues and decors, jumppads, trees and grasses in the upper corner, and the fog in the Flak Cannon room. Fair enough gameplay but it still looks awesome and it needs the preview screen (fixed).

    EDIT: Download from UT-Files
