Default Cold Trap Main Menu Mock-up

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qafS1E-41Ys

    Cold Trap Website: http://www.coldtrapgame.com/
A Main menu I'm working on in udk.
I'm going to make matinee do several random paths that will go around the sun / other planets.
Credits go to Gokzor for his crappy planet shader I'm using for the sun right now (which is crappy), Javahawk for the basis for my planet shader (the dot product lighting hack you did does not work though) and to Bungie for the halo 3 song "Never Forget"(Which is just a place holder as we don't have the main menu music yet).

You can increase brightness of sun (maybe based on distance, so from far distance it will be very bright and from smaller distance it will be more yellow), add some nice lens flares to it and a little heat effect around sun (very close to sun surface)

Also i must say that distance between sun and earth should be bigger (i'm not saying that you should use real proporions, because we don't need to have two small dots, but in my opinion it will look nicer if you double the distance). And you also forgot about Mercury and Venus, but i guess that isn't important on current stage

Nice Menu, I like the fly though Idea. I was thinking of a BF2/1942 backround video idea - but realized the amount of saved data size I can save. I just started working on mine today.

    qtf...

Also I don't like how close the camera gets to that yellow "thing".
The player will only get to see how fake it is. Afaik (:P) there is burning mass on the sun. Not a yellowish surface that you could walk on.

Also I'd like to see some glowing, especially when the other planet hides the "sun".

Also you arnt using it properly at all... you might wanna look into using some bloom or other atmospherics. And to tell the truth taking a bunch of other peoples work sticking it together in UDK to make a menu and calling it your game is bad enough but then to call other peoples work crappy is low...

Very tru, and i love the planet shader, one of the best contributions in the forums. I used your earth shader and might i say is not crappy. And they are only example planets your supposed to edit and create your own.

Its alot of disrespect and contradicting

I was always under the assumption that the planet shader was intended to be used for planets... which isn't remotely the same thing as a star. I thought it worked pretty good when I played with it, but for the most part useless for what I'm doing right now.

If you're even thinking about working in the games industry, you're screwing yourself over. Everyone basically knows everyone. And if you want to be a part of a team and you're applying for a job, you don't want to be remembered as that guy who took other people's work and then called it crappy.

Honestly, if you showed up at a studio I worked at tomorrow, I would highly suggest not hiring you based off of that attitude to my employer.

I would suggest making a new screen name, starting a new project, and not being such an ass if you actually want to have the community be interested in your work. Because I'm not going to waste my time looking at something an ungrateful dick worked on.

Not trying to be a dick myself, but seriously. You need to learn this lesson.

You're beating a dead horse buddy. And no one knows anyone, given the amount of people that work in the industry that's not true at all.

No one knows anyone? Many people switch studios every few years, and thus you create a vast network of people. You may not directly know someone, but you probably know someone who does. Just look at the site LinkedIn - I personally don't know a ton of people, but my contacts do, and thus I have a large network. I can search and hey, if one of my coworkers or friends were to know someone we were planning on hiring, then I would ask how that person was. Good team player, etc.

I'm not beating a dead horse. I gave him new information about the industry. I find it funny that you question my statement while at the same time not offering any proof as to why you are right instead. Having gone to the Game Developers Conference last week, that point really hit home with me. It is a growing industry, but a lot of people know one another, even just barely. And it is important to not burn bridges along the way.

I'm just trying to help this guy by pointing out that his attitude is way off if he hopes to be interacting with this community, and other gaming communities. I don't think your post served as anything positive at all.
