Awesome, well at the very least they can be viewed in UTPT and more easily remade.

Thanx for that man, I'm sure this will led to the mutator finally after all these years.

    Thanks YourPackage.

FewPosts, do you know how to use .lin files?

Well I had assumed for a time that UTPT could extract the .lin file maybe somehow. YourPackage indicated he cannot get it extracted with UTPT though. I think there is a slim chance it may somehow import into UT2003, but alas, again, I have no copy of that game.

You could try to change the .lin file type to .ut2 by right clicking and renaming the file, and just change the .lin part to .ut2 and press enter.

Then try to open it in the editor. I have been unable to download the files myself to play with them.

If you can somehow get it to the point wher it can be opened in the editor (any UC1 map). Then it can TOTALLY be ported into UT2004.

BTW to answer your other question, .lin files are map files from UC1 basically. In UT2004 and I think even in Ut2003 the file type for maps is .ut2 instead. Look at your C://UT2004/Maps folder and see exactly how the extension looks.

I can't remember, but I think UC2 maps may also be packaged as .lin files, but I cannot remember. That's a whole different ball of wax though, as the assets in UC2 are COMPLETELY different that UT200x and UC1. UC1 and UT200x share a lot of common packages I'm sure. There are even old UC packages still around, that I use to this day. UCGeneric.utx (texture package) is one of my favorite and most verstile packages to use. has some good detial textures and glass stuff to build off and make your own. UC2 though uses it's own set of texture and mesh packages and therefore will probably never be able to be straight up ported into UT2004. The possiblity seems very real when it comes to UC1 though. Might be able to get the actual map ported possibly.

If you are reading this YourPackage, maybe Gildo could figure it out quick as crap? I bet if he had a .lin and a .ut2 of the exact same file, he could probably do it. Like maybe one of the maps that changed the least from UC1 to UT200x....just a thought.

I tried renaming .lin to .ut2 a while ago. I got an error and then UED just vanished.

Well last chance is trying in UT2003 then. The crappy part is if the weapons and stuff were stripped out, it'd be more likely to open.

To get a better understanding, consider an AutoCAD line style specification in a .LIN file. A .LIN file is what in used in AutoCAD to import a line style definition; these files can also be used in MicroStation by choosing File > Import in the line style editor. There are 2 types of line styles that can be represented in a .LIN file. First are dash-dots, which are roughly equivalent to MicroStation Strokes:

Info here in regards to the *.lin extention
Also this was also discussed in a thread here with regards to the PS2 edition and some the maps there too. Hope it help out?

From what I can see, there must be a way. They are stored in .xsb and .xwb, joined together by a .xap file. The .xap has offsets and similar things, but I can't seem to find a way to decode and extract those files...

Also, what's your status on the animations? If we have them, I could create a quick weapon look replacement mutator. But we'd still need sounds.

I've found out some interesting things about this .lin file type: not only is it used in both UC and UC2, it's also used in UT1 PS2 (packed into a .umd file)! So it's kinda like a universal console map type I guess. Another interesting thing is that from UT1 to UT2004, in UCC if you enter ucc Editor.PS2ConvertCommandlet ..\Path\To\A\Map.unr it will probably convert the map into .lin, although it doesn't change the extension itself. Their structure is fairly similar to that of normal .unr, however. These converted .unrs are also shrunk to around 42% of their original size, the same rate as ZIP compression.
No idea if this can be reversed, however. The commandlet has no documentation and I don't even know if there are any more parameters that I could use. Also not tested on textures and other resources.

Well if the world space can be "grabbed" I can take care of the rest in most cases in short order. Very fast at textureing levels etc.

Had a look at any of that code yet Emerald? Think you can get some weapons going? Species stats...and weapon affinities?

Haven't looked into it yet, but will do that soon.

EDIT: Viewed the scripts, and they're no-go since they have no defaultproperties section, and that's probably the most important thing of all the scripts.
I've also found a way to extract UC sounds. But no luck with animations yet.

I know there have been remakes of the DC and PS2 maps for UT (to UT,) and ports of the unreleased PS1 Unreal maps. Check at Beyond Unreal to see all these cool UT projects. I really don't see these as good candidates for inclusion in this project though.

The health/armor pick-ups, announcer, weapon sounds, and music of UC can all be found in the UT2003 beta, so you can extract that content straight out of the beta.

Certain weapons were remade specifically for UC.
    -Assault Rifle
    -BioRifle
    -Shock Rifle
    -Link Gun
    -Minigun
    -Flak Cannon
    -Rocket Launcher + Ammo
    -Bomb carrier

You can play it as well, however you need to copy textures over the beta ones from an install of UT2003 or UT2004, otherwise it won't start. You can see a lot of unfinished content in it that would end up in UC and UT2004 (such as DM-Gestalt, CTF-Smote (no start point so it will crash the game), the training map that would end up in UC in finished form, weapon/announcer sounds, the music (level1.ogg/level4.ogg/level10.ogg/level12.ogg) and some other stuff.

None of the downloads seem to be a filetye I can use, so IDK

Yeah those are the "weapon statics", not the animations. I wonder if the .ukx pacakges from UC1 could be extracted with uModel....

    "the companies which developed uc1"

    You mean... Like Epic?

Theoretically it's possible as most likely there are copies of the UC maps in a format that UT2003/4 can open, as it's basically the same thing. We have the maps in the XBOX format but no one has figured out how to open them.

I once asked straight up for DM-Aqua_Mortis. Joe Graff, the Lead Programmer on UC2 basiclally said "We can't". Might have something to do with the fact Digital Extremes had more influence on UC/UT200X than Epic did My guess is the .UT2 files is on a HDD at DE, not Epic.

Possibly, but I would'nt know how to go about it, nor would I care to try. So far the response has basically been:

"We're not giving you anything, but your free to re-create or extact what you can"

If someone cares to try, be my guest...

They did the multi-player part for Bioshock 2 so could ask there.
