    Default Newb looking for help.

I'm new to this UDK thing, but I do have the desire to learn how to use it and create games. I have practically no experience doing anything like this. If there is some UDK guru with a significant amount of patience, I would seriously appreciate some help. I did watch the 3dbuzz tutorial videos, but that only got me so far.

    Things I need help with:
-Navigation Points for bots, I'm not doing so well with that
-Making the game third person mode
-Modeling / Creating weapons and modifying stats etc

Basically I just want to get to the point where I can create a simple map and play solo bot matches and practice creating weapons. For now, that is enough for me. 3rd person mode would be neat, but I guess the other things are more important. If anyone can help me through these things, it would be very helpful. The list is short for now, but I will add to it when I get these basics down. Thanks in advance to anyone who even read this far. Any help would be appreciated. Good luck to everyone and their projects~

Honestly bud.If I we`re you(knowing what I know after close to 9 years of modding)I would choose one of those options you mention in your post and concentrate all your efforts in that direction....I would even narrow it down further tbh...Modelling and texturing is a decent starting point for most beginners..That`s if you have an artistic "bent".Get hold of a 3d modelling programme,3dsmax,maya,blender,milkshape blah, blah. There`s plenty out there, some are free ,others cost quite alot I`m afraid.
Your best purchase imo would be photoshop.Cracking piece of kit!
As for the coding and programming side..I leave that to the younger/more fortunate fraternity.(Although, you yourself may be one of them)...When I was at school, binary had only just appeared.lol.

I'm 21. but I didn't learn much about coding things. I will try to do the modeling stuff though, I just don't know what I have to do with modeling to make it fit in UDK the way I want it to. I am able to use the things already included in UDK to make a semi functional map with rooms, terrain and bots that sometimes just stand still... but sometimes works fine. I just want to be able to put my own touch on things instead of using everything from someone elses work. I didn't plan on these being quick things to learn, just these are my priority at the time. I'll get back to work, thanks for the advice. I've heard of blender so I'll try that one out.

Alright, I don't know if anyone bothers to read my thread here, but I don't want to keep making a new thread when I will have so many questions. Most of what I see on the UDK forums is people talking about the UnrealScript coding and stuff. The only reference so far that I've seen as to what to type the coding into is a program called nFringe. That program says I need Visual Studio 2005 and/or 2008, but those only have temporary trials. I'm new to the whole programming thing so does anyone have any newb-friendly advice/help? I'd like to get started on things, but I'm lacking in the coding area. Any help would be appreciated, I'm really a newb at this.

the documentation on unrealscripting is really good and its got me able to program new weapons totally of my own design within a matter of days

(And no i dont mean changing default properties.)

unrealscript is quite easy as long as your ok with your maths.

you can get the FREE visual studios... its called visual studios express... im using nfringe now and its working perfect and no trial period...

also i recomend only using nfringe for the highlighter... the actual project management is easier by hand i think.
