To clarify, my gamertag is the one I selected out of a list I created for potential gamertags. It's a song by an industrial-electro band called Angelspit, and was not chosen because I'm a girl- feel free to look it up if you think otherwise.
Now that that's out of the way, why should a girl have to mask the fact that they are, indeed, female? Whether it's apparent by gamertag or not most people can tell by voice only, and if they're not sure, they always ask. Should we not talk in the game chat then to avoid being verbally abused? I refuse to let my gaming experience be disturbed because some unintelligent monkeys want to make insults at a complete stranger only because they're missing a little bit of skin somewhere special.
I like people knowing that I'm a girl so when I kick their ass they can feel bad about themselves.
Angelbell is right when she says that girls get talked trash to the most. I don't even have to say anything- if my speech bubble is even visible in the game chat all I hear is "SHUT UP GIRL POISON GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN WHERE YOU BELONG". lol wat this isn't the 50's.
The first thing a girl will hear is that they're fat, ugly, 300 lb. lesbians. I have my MySpace link in my gamer profile just to disprove anyone who tries to insult me. Yeah, probably not the smartest choice, but I obviously don't care. Is it for attention? Maybe. I'm not so righteous to admit that it's not. But when I'm on Gears, I'm a gamer before I'm a girl. I'd rather someone insult me for the way I play then insult me for being female, and if they cross that line I want their pride to be hurt for being wrong.
Girl gamers don't want respect for being female, they want respect for playing and loving the game just like the rest of you. Freaking d'oh.
OKAY TO GET BACK ON TOPIC.. sort of.
I trash talk all the time. I trash talk when randoms on my team steal kills, when the enemy has a laggy host, when the enemy team 'group humps' a downed member of my team 'cos they think they're good in a 3v1, 4v1, 5v1 situation, and especially if someone wants to talk smack to me first, that gets me pumped even more. Hell, I even talk trash to my own team- people I've been playing with for months- and my boyfriend- most of them already know how I am at this point and it's usually in good fun, sometimes they'll join in and talk trash to me back. In some situations trash talk is extended over Xbox Live messaging for three or four games, and there have been plenty occasions where whoever I was talking to and I eventually cooled off, became friends and played together at a later date (one of those people is a member of this forum, actually!).
Being female, the worst people to talk trash to is.. other females, lol. I've had girls message me for talking trash to their boyfriends, talk about being insecure and over protective! Most of them call me rude names for a girl because of the whole MySpace deal, but when I ask them for their networking profile they never comply or fail to deliver. I've even tried the method above, calming down and befriending them, but it never works, I guess girls are too stubborn (imagine that!).
I have less than ten females on my friends list and only two that actively play Gears at this point in time. One of them is probably the coolest girl I've ever met on Xbox Live and the only one I really have fun playing with.
