Just as a minor thought, you need to be a bit careful over Lucas Arts stuff, they're a bit dubious over use of their IP.

Commercial or not, Lucas Arts will probably not be happy with you releasing a game using their intellectual property. Businesses are funny that way. They like people not to use their property without expressed written consent. If you want to use something that doesn't belong to you, you should ALWAYS get permission first.

Visit their website, click on LucasArts->Contact LucasArts and you'll probably find what you need in order to contact them

Closing the project won't help you finishing it (obviously ), so why not send them a letter and wait for their response? Even if it takes a week or two, the project might have a chance. "Those who don't fight, have already lost"

Ha-ha you say so because you never live in Russia. ok lets imagine what im send a letter and three weeks are later its come to LucasArts ? and probably they agree but when this letter wil come to me, it will get a lot of time maybe year, or maybe it will never become, or it will become and i can continiue
anyway close the project not help me finish what ? a problems ?
but for project are not creating it does not exist , so if this thread will close nothing are will existing

it is always dangerous doing a game based on someone elses ip, or even closely resembling it. it does not mater if it is comercial or not you can still get shut down if the company feels threatened, or if they feel you are making their products look bad, either by doing a poor job, or especialy doing too good of a job. you will likely never here back from just emailing a place as big as them and if you do it will likely be a form letter with no real useful content.

the bad thing is most likely you will not get a notice to stop production untill you are pretty far into production and close to being released.

your best bet is to make sure that it is well different than star wars,, make it your own thing. no one owns general sci fi. so you can do stuff verry similar to star wars and have no problem at all.

Maybe you might look at what you were thinking of doing within the star wars universe and work that in your own, generic sci fi game..you can be influenced by the art style without it being Tie fighters and storm troopers.

It's pretty clear that you get that companys like Lucasarts will send cease and desist letters on the basis that use of intellectual property, regardless of whether commercially or otherwise, without their prior permission as it could tarnish their brands. Don't let that put you off learning the tools or working on something, just know that you can take a genre and 'make it yours' without needing to lean on an existing IP.

Good luck in your endeavours, and also good luck to the Russian postal service, it sounds like it needs it.

Lucas allows use of the Star Wars ip in ANY form of media that is not for profit. This includes movies, shows, games. etc. They have been doing for years now, that is why there are so many Star Wars mods (legally no difference between a mod and a game released for free), search Google if you want proof or check out First Strike which has been going for almost 4 years now:
