Installation Troubleshooting

i downloaded the UDK file from Nvidia, but it wouldn't install. i just wanted to know if the UDK is compatible with macs. i have a macbook pro with mac OS X. the file i downloaded was an .exe file, which i'm pretty sure only works for windows, so i just wanted to know if UDK isn't available for macs or do i just need to download another file.

I'm pretty certain that UDK is currently only a Windows executable program, even though the engine can create content for a Mac.

I have previously installed many versions of UDK, the latest being the september 2011 release. I wanted to reinstall the september version, so I deleted the folder (manually), and tried running the installer again. The splash screen showed up for a few seconds, and then the installer closed itself. I tried downloading the october release, and I got the same results. I also have the july 2011 release installed, and even that version won't install anymore (the splash shows for a second and then windows tells me that "UnSetup.exe has stopped working"). Can someone please help me with this? Thanks.

Arshia --- Go into your add/remove programs and do the uninstall of the previous version (obviously back up and keep a copy of your content files)....

Install to a new folder location (leaving the default with the date usually accomplishes this)

If all that still leaves you stuck, and you've done all your windows updates, removed udk.exe folder from virus scanning (add it to the Exception list)... then start with the log file. Run with the VERBOSE command (it's in the documentation online) and post it up here if you want any help interpreting what's happening...

That's my advice based on what I've seen first-hand and with helping people on this board....

This time, I have officially seen it ALL. After all this time that nothing seemed to work, I just started the 7/2011 version, and it asked me if I agreed to epic's license (odd, indeed). After that, UDK just started like normal. The difference is that now, I can run the installers (10/2011 is being installed right now) with no problem. I have no idea how this all happened, but all's well now, so thanks!

Hexon,

Try installing the latest VC Redist from microsoft... the link gives you 2008 package... try the 2010 package.. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...s.aspx?id=5555

When running it, download it to a local directory then right click the installer and do "Run as administrator".. and see how that works for you.

Also, make sure that your Windows Update updates are all up-to-date.

If you're not sure about anything I'm saying, let me know and I'll go into further detail...

Was this downloaded directly from the UDK site?
And are you running the file in compatibility mode (right click on the .exe file and check the compatibility tab)?

I got some problems installing the 01-2012 version of the UDK. I've tried downloading directly via Firefox and ive tried it with a download manager, but the same error keeps popping up. It is the following error:

Extracting all files failed with the exception:

Ionic.Zip.BadReadException: bad tead of entry
UDKGame/Content/Showcases/Foliage/UDK_Bugs.upk from
compressed archive.
at Ionic.Zip.ZipEntry.ExtractOne(Stream output) etc etc etc...

Any ideas on this one?

Hi, I am William. I have installed UDK December 2011 many times. I have uninstalled previous UDK version, UT3, installed latest DirectX, MD5 error none, Net Framework 3.5 SP1 is correct, reboot.
I installed as Admin and UAC is OFF. My specification is:
Pentium IV 3.0 GHz
3 GB RAM DDR2
NVIDIA 9500 GT 1GB DDR2
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I download UDK January 2012 from this site
Epic Games
I used Orbit downloader 4.1.0.2 from Mozilla 5.0.
I used CDMA modem with 10 kb/s and connected from my laptop at home.
It is finish in 3 days.
I guess UDK December 2011 installation is corrupted.
I think it is because I downloaded it at internet cafe which has many viruses.
So I suggest u guys to download from Epic Games and do not use public connection as I used to.

My spec is:
Pentium IV 3.0 GHz
3 GB RAM DDR2
1 GB VRAM DDR2 NVIDIA 9500 GT

I installed UDK January 2012 on Windows 7 32 bit, but GPU Shark 0.5 said that it uses almost 95% of GPU Processing Power.
Once I moved to Windows 7 64 bit, the result is different. It only uses 24% of GPU power.
I just want to let you guys know that it might be better to help your VGA card keep stable if you use Windows 7 64 bit.

only recently tried to go to the newer versions of udk and it downloads but then when i click to install it locks up my computer , i uninstalled the older udk to see if this was the problem, now that version wont reinstall and also no udk based games will install i tried rengade x ,that locks up aswell any help appreciated.

hi,i've recently have a problem, were my perspective viewport, starts to move right all on its own, has anyone ever experienced this problem, but heres the thing i've gone back and installed older versions and i still get the thing,although a point it did stop for some reason, then later continued ,i have no clue what is going on, is there anything i can do in the configs or code or something?

Hi pthomas, I had this same issue. What worked for me was:
*right-click on the UDKInstall-2012-03-BETA.exe and select Properties.
*Go to the Compatibility tab and click on the button "Change settings for all users".
*In the window that pops up change the drop-down under Compatibility mode to your version of Windows (ex. Windows 7).
*Make sure there is a check-mark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
*Click the Apply button for this window, then click the OK button for both windows to close them.
*Try the install again.

Hopefully this helps out people who are getting stuck with this issue. It seems as if while creating the new .exe something happened and it defaulted to assuming everyone is using Windows XP.

I am trying to install the December 2011 beta. The installer fails, and tell me I need Windows service pack 3. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. In the error log I get these messages;

When I try to install the UDK, it tries to install the VS Redistributables stuff first thing, and it forcefully restarts my computer.. happened 3 times now.. gives no warning or errors at all.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

What's amazing is that this question comes up every time there's a new release and it has yet to be adequately addressed. This has been a problem since the May 2012 release and it would be nice to get some real support for the Win7 64-bit users.

На скрине ошибка CRC - битый файл архива, так что придётся скачивать заново. Рекомендую воспользоваться какой-нибудь специализированной прогой типа FlashGet - меньше шанс что файл побьётся если скачивается не в один заход. Есть конечно шанс что он будет на диске от какого-нибудь игрового журнала, но это маловероятно и скорее всего это будет старая версия.

_Lynx спасибо за ответ. Приятно видеть Россиянина на подобных форумах. Но дело в том, что UDK на ноубуке установился без проблем. Вообще. Этот же самый архив с которого я установил UDK на ноутбук я путем флеш-карты перенес на ПК и при установке ПК выдает вышеуказанные ошибки. И такое уже не в первый раз... Вашим советом по поводу FlashGet я воспользуюсь, но тем не менее как-то странно все это...

P.S. файлы я качал 3 раза, все в один заход и ошибки были всегда. И качаю я всегда через Dounload Master.
